Physical therapy is so important to me because now more than ever does our society need to not regress into a state of being sedentary. Physical therapy is so important to me because we are currently in a mental illness epidemic, which may be perceived in the direction of finally having the resources to be able to diagnose and understand the neuroscience behind this impairments and finally being able to break the stigma of mental health. I believe being physically active and being able to thrive in an autonomous way throughout life and not having to worry about pain has a direct impact on coping with life’s stresses. Maintaining a positive relationship with exercise and remaining active no matter what your age is will lead to better health outcomes and a far superior quality of life. Spending this message to as many patient as I can is a goal of mine, as well as being able to maximize the amount of independent movement that each one of my patients is capable of within every given unique situation. I think that physical therapists are one of the most important healthcare providers that do not receive the credit they deserve for the knowledge they behold not only in a musculoskeletal sense but also in a physiological sense. Physical therapists are some of the most creative and intuitive people in the world and I will strive to be as open minded and creative in terms of motivating each patient and maximizing their desire to support their own health. Our society lacks a strong voice of encouraging physical activity and lacks awareness of its connection to its positive impact on mental health. With the way technology is progressing, more and more people work for 8 hours while sitting down and are inside. Children play more on technology than they do outside and this is the first generation of people to do so. Children born during the pandemic especially are vulnerable to developing their brain in a very different manner than any children ever before. With all of the subscriptions and accounts to be made and emails and online profiles and advertisements and quick videos it is hard to know what is true about what truly has a positive impact on one’s health. I understand that most people will visit my physical therapy clinic because of pain and a lack of physical functioning. This is the perfect opportunity for me to encourage and facilitate healthy coping habits and knowledge of maximizing long-term function.
