My name is Cinthya Alicea, and if there’s one thing that’s shaped who I am, it’s the combination of hard life lessons and heavy music. I’m a first-generation Cuban-American student, navigating higher education without a map or a safety net. I’m currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with the goal of becoming a licensed therapist who can help underserved and often overlooked populations—especially those dealing with trauma, identity, and isolation. My academic goal is to complete my degree with high honors while gaining practical experience in counseling settings that serve marginalized communities. Long term, I want to open a mental health practice tailored to people who exist on the fringe—gamers, neurodivergent individuals, alternative subcultures, and people who grew up feeling like they didn’t quite fit in. I know what that feels like because I’ve lived it. I’ve been the girl with chronic back pain, fighting through scoliosis while hiding it behind eyeliner and band merch. I’ve also been the one who put off asking for help because money was always tight and I didn’t want to be a burden. Now, I want to be the counselor who shows people that asking for help is brave—and possible. Professionally, I hope to combine my background as a content creator with my future as a counselor to normalize mental health conversations in online and creative spaces. I believe that therapists don’t have to fit a mold. Some of us wear black, listen to metal, and still have the biggest hearts in the room. Why do I need this scholarship? Because I’m paying for school out of pocket. Every month, I stretch a modest income to cover nearly $4,000 in tuition, on top of living expenses, without outside financial support. I don’t have wealthy parents, a college fund, or a financial cushion. What I do have is grit, hustle, and a dream that’s too important to give up on. I’m doing everything I can—working side gigs, applying for scholarships, and cutting costs wherever possible—but I still fall short. There are days when I worry that I might not be able to afford next semester. This scholarship wouldn’t just help me—it would quite literally keep me in school. Right now, I’m managing my expenses with sheer willpower and creativity. I budget every dollar and prioritize school above everything else. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Sometimes it means skipping out on things like doctor’s appointments, social events, or even meals just to make sure my tuition gets paid. I’m not proud of that, but I’m also not ashamed of the sacrifices I’ve made. It just shows how much I want this. And when I feel overwhelmed, I turn to heavy metal. Metal has been a lifeline for me. It’s more than music—it’s survival, expression, release. It gave me a voice when I didn’t have one, and it’s taught me how to turn pain into power. Whether it’s through the raw vulnerability of lyrics, the controlled chaos of a guitar solo, or the sense of belonging in a pit full of strangers—metal reminds me that I’m not alone. And that’s the exact message I want to bring to my future clients. This scholarship would help me finish what I started. It would ease the burden, allow me to focus more on my studies and practicum work, and give me the stability I need to keep pushing forward. Thank you for considering me, and for supporting students who may not have much—but who have heart, purpose, and a whole lot of fight left in them.

As a first-generation Cuban-American and first-generation college student, I’ve learned that pursuing education isn’t just about earning a degree—it’s about transforming the future for yourself and those who come after you. Growing up, I watched my parents work long hours in pediatric healthcare, doing everything they could to provide me with opportunities they never had. Their sacrifices instilled in me a deep sense of purpose: I knew I had to make their struggle count by building a meaningful life and giving back to others. Receiving this scholarship would be more than financial support—it would be a recognition of that journey, and a responsibility to continue its legacy through education, innovation, and impact. For the past ten years, I’ve worked as a full-time content creator in the gaming and livestreaming space. At face value, it might not seem like a traditional foundation for a career in mental health. But that experience gave me something invaluable: an intimate understanding of digital communities, and how many people—especially young adults—seek connection, support, and even healing through online platforms. I’ve had countless conversations with viewers who opened up about mental health struggles, loneliness, or trauma. I realized that what they often needed wasn’t just entertainment—it was empathy. It was guidance. It was hope. That realization is what led me to pursue a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I plan to become a licensed counselor and use my unique background to reach populations that traditional systems often miss—especially individuals navigating identity, mental health, and isolation in online spaces. My goal is to blend technology and therapy, whether that’s through virtual counseling, digital outreach, or creating safe, inclusive communities that prioritize mental wellness. This scholarship aligns perfectly with that vision. It’s not only a recognition of educational perseverance, but a celebration of innovative thinking—of finding new ways to solve old problems. If awarded this opportunity, I would honor its values by becoming a counselor who brings fresh perspectives into the field. I want to challenge outdated norms in mental health care, reduce stigma in minority communities, and make support more accessible and relatable, especially for digital natives. Being a first-generation immigrant has shaped everything about my educational path. From navigating the college system alone to translating official documents for my parents as a teenager, I’ve had to become resourceful, resilient, and fearless in the face of uncertainty. I know what it means to carry the weight of a family’s dreams. That’s why I take my education so seriously—it’s not just for me. It’s for every sacrifice my parents made, every barrier I’ve broken, and every client I hope to serve in the future. With this scholarship, I would not only continue my graduate studies—I would carry forward a mission of impact. I’m determined to use this opportunity to uplift others, advocate for mental wellness, and inspire the next generation of first-gen students to believe that their voices—and their visions—matter.

My name is Cinthya Alicea, and I am a proud Cuban-American woman, a first-generation college student, and someone who has never followed a conventional path. My parents both worked in pediatric healthcare, and growing up, I watched them dedicate themselves fully to helping others. Their work ethic and empathy left a deep impression on me. They taught me that showing up for others is one of the most important things you can do in life — and that lesson has guided me, even as I carved out a unique path of my own. For the past ten years, I built a career as a full-time content creator on Twitch, a livestreaming platform in the gaming industry. I connected with thousands of people, building an online community from the ground up. At first, it was all about games and entertainment, but over time, it became something much deeper. Viewers would message me privately to open up about their struggles — with anxiety, depression, family issues, loneliness, or identity. I didn’t have formal training back then, but I listened with compassion. That experience changed me. I realized how powerful a safe space — even a virtual one — could be. That’s when I knew I wanted to pursue mental health counseling. Now, I’m enrolled in a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and my goal is to become a licensed professional counselor with a specialization in working with young adults. I plan to combine my knowledge of digital spaces with evidence-based therapy to support people who are often overlooked — especially those who turn to online communities when they feel they don’t have support elsewhere. I want to meet people where they are, whether that’s in person or through digital outreach. As someone with ADHD and a sensation-seeking personality, I know how hard it can be to feel understood in traditional mental health spaces. My lived experiences allow me to connect deeply with others who feel like they don’t fit in the box. I want to break the stigma around mental health, particularly in the Latino community, and be a counselor who leads with empathy, cultural awareness, and authenticity. This scholarship would not only ease the financial burden of my graduate studies — it would be an investment in the kind of counselor I strive to become. I want to help people feel seen, heard, and empowered to change their lives. And if I can do that — even for one person — then I’ll know I’ve made a positive impact in the world.
Online ADHD Diagnosis Mental Health Scholarship for Women
Hello, my name is Cinthya Alicea. I am a first generation student pursuing my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I immigrated from Cuba to the United States in the year 2000 and I am very dedicated to the opportunity of receiving an education. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of three while living in Cuba, a diagnosis that has shaped much of my academic journey and personal life. ADHD is often seen as a challenge, but over time, I have learned to adapt and develop strategies that allow me to succeed both in school and in my personal life. Academically, ADHD can sometimes make it difficult to maintain focus for extended periods of time. Tasks that require sustained attention can become overwhelming, and my thoughts often feel scattered, making it hard to prioritize assignments. This can lead to feelings of frustration, anxiety, and self-doubt. However, I have come to understand the importance of structure and organization in managing my ADHD. I use tools such as digital calendars, to-do lists, and time-blocking to stay on track. Additionally, breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable steps helps reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed. These strategies not only help me stay organized but also allow me to produce high-quality work in a timely manner. In my personal life, ADHD has its ups and downs. While I am a passionate, creative, and empathetic person, I often struggle with impulsivity and time management, which can affect my relationships and my ability to balance my commitments. However, my experience with ADHD has also allowed me to develop a deep sense of self-awareness. I know when I need breaks, when I need extra help, or when I need to communicate more effectively with those around me. By fostering open communication with my family, friends, and professors, I ensure that I get the support I need. Prioritizing my mental health is crucial to my success. I have learned that self-care is essential in maintaining both my academic performance and overall well-being. I engage in activities such as exercise, meditation, and creative outlets to help manage stress and maintain focus. I also make sure to ask for accommodations when necessary, whether that’s extra time on assignments or a quiet space for studying. These accommodations have been key in allowing me to perform at my best. ADHD has undeniably influenced my journey, but it has also provided me with the opportunity to build resilience, learn how to adapt, and develop strategies that work for me. The support I receive, combined with the steps I take to prioritize my mental health, allows me to not only excel in school but also grow personally and professionally. With continued focus on mental health and self-care, I am confident in my ability to succeed in my academic and career pursuits, no matter the challenges I face.

Hello, my name is Cinthya Alicea. I am a first generation student pursuing my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I immigrated from Cuba to the United States in the year 2000 and I am very dedicated to the opportunity of receiving an education. Mental health has profoundly influenced my career aspirations, not only shaping the professional path I’ve chosen but also redefining how I engage with others and view the world. My journey with mental health began long before I recognized its significance in my life. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in healthcare, I saw the impact of compassionate care, especially in my parents’ work in pediatric healthcare. Their commitment to others planted the seed of my desire to help people, but it wasn’t until I began to understand my own mental health struggles that I found my true calling. For over a decade, I worked as a video game streamer, building an online community that became my second family. During those years, I not only shared my passion for gaming but also created a space where people felt safe to express themselves. Over time, I realized how common feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression were among my audience and even within myself. Strangers from across the globe would confide in me about their struggles, trusting me with their vulnerabilities. It was humbling but also heartbreaking, as I often felt helpless, unable to provide the professional guidance they needed. This experience opened my eyes to the importance of mental health and how often it is misunderstood or ignored, especially in spaces where stigma persists. It also taught me that I wanted to do more than just listen—I wanted to make a tangible impact. This realization led me to transition from a career in streaming to pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am determined to become a licensed counselor who not only helps individuals navigate their challenges but also advocates for broader awareness and accessibility to mental health resources. As a first-generation college student and someone with a Cuban background, I understand the cultural barriers that often prevent individuals from seeking help. These experiences have fueled my passion for creating culturally competent, inclusive care. I want to be a counselor who empowers individuals to embrace their struggles as part of their journey rather than a source of shame. Mental health has not just shaped my career aspirations—it has given them purpose. Every step I take in this field feels like a promise to the community I’ve built and the people I’ve yet to meet. It’s a calling, a responsibility, and above all, a way to honor the importance of healing.

Hello, my name is Cinthya Alicea. I am a first generation student pursuing my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I immigrated from Cuba to the United States in the year 2000 and I am very dedicated to the opportunity of receiving an education. Understanding the nature of our universe is one of humanity’s most profound and inspiring endeavors. It is a pursuit that transcends individual interests and connects us to something much larger than ourselves. The universe represents both the origins of our existence and the mysteries that lie beyond our current understanding. By exploring it, we gain insight into our place within it, the forces that govern it, and the possibilities it holds for our future. One of the primary reasons I believe it is important to better understand the universe is that it helps answer some of life’s most fundamental questions: Where did we come from? Why are we here? What lies beyond what we can see? These questions have driven human curiosity for millennia and have inspired some of the greatest advancements in science, technology, and philosophy. By studying the cosmos, we not only learn about the universe’s structure and laws but also discover more about ourselves—our origins, our future, and our capacity for ingenuity. Additionally, understanding the universe has practical implications. The study of space and the natural world has led to groundbreaking discoveries in fields like physics, medicine, and technology. From satellite communications to advancements in renewable energy, exploring the universe drives innovation that improves our lives here on Earth. It also highlights the interconnectedness of all things, reminding us of the delicate balance required to sustain life on our planet and the responsibility we have to protect it. To better understand the universe, I believe it’s essential to employ both scientific exploration and interdisciplinary thinking. Science, particularly fields like astrophysics, cosmology, and quantum mechanics, provides the tools to unravel the physical mysteries of the cosmos. At the same time, philosophy, art, and even mental health studies can play a role in interpreting the implications of these discoveries and ensuring they benefit humanity as a whole. Collaboration between disciplines fosters creativity and innovation, helping us see the universe from multiple perspectives. Ultimately, the universe is a testament to the power of curiosity and exploration. By seeking to understand it, we open doors to new possibilities, strengthen our connection to one another, and leave a legacy of knowledge and inspiration for future generations. This pursuit isn’t just about solving mysteries; it’s about celebrating the endless potential of the human spirit to grow, learn, and reach for the stars.

My career goals and professional aspirations are deeply rooted in my desire to create a meaningful impact in people’s lives through mental health counseling. Having spent over a decade as a public figure in the video game streaming industry, I witnessed how mental health challenges—such as anxiety, burnout, and loneliness—can affect individuals from all walks of life. This experience opened my eyes to the need for accessible, compassionate, and culturally informed mental health care, and it inspired me to transition into this field to become part of the solution. My ultimate goal is to become a licensed clinical mental health counselor specializing in helping individuals navigate stress, trauma, and identity-related struggles. I am particularly passionate about working with underserved communities, including minorities and first-generation individuals like myself, who may face unique barriers to accessing mental health resources. As someone with a Cuban background, I understand the cultural stigmas and misunderstandings that surround mental health, and I want to be a counselor who helps break down those barriers with empathy. I aspire to use my background in social media and online community building to make mental health resources more accessible on a larger scale. I envision creating content that educates and normalizes conversations about mental health, bridging the gap between professional care and everyday awareness. This could involve hosting workshops, producing video series, or developing programs that combine mental health education with creative outlets like gaming. Long-term, I see myself contributing to the mental health field. Whether through policy advocacy, research, or developing innovative therapeutic programs, I want to ensure that mental health care evolves to meet the needs of diverse populations. One specific aspiration is to establish a nonprofit organization that provides low-cost counseling services and educational resources for individuals and families who may not otherwise have access to them.

My decision to pursue a degree in healthcare is deeply rooted in my life experiences and personal values. Growing up, I was inspired by my parents, who both worked in pediatric healthcare. My mother worked in pediatric ICU and my father worked with children who had leukemia. Their dedication to helping children and families navigate difficult times left a lasting impression on me. I witnessed how compassion and expertise could profoundly impact lives, planting the seed for my desire to follow in their footsteps. Initially, my career took a different path. I spent a decade as a professional video game streamer, building an online community and engaging with thousands of people worldwide. This unique experience exposed me to the mental health struggles many people face, especially in the fast-paced and often isolating digital world. It became clear to me that I wanted to do more than just listen—I wanted to provide meaningful support and make a tangible difference. This realization led me to transition into healthcare, focusing on mental health counseling. As a woman in the healthcare field, I hope to make a positive impact by advocating for mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and empowering individuals to prioritize their emotional well-being. Women often bring unique strengths to healthcare, such as empathy, communication, and a holistic perspective on care. I aim to use these qualities to create safe, inclusive spaces for individuals to explore their challenges and discover pathways to healing. My background as a first-generation student further fuels my commitment to this field. I understand the barriers that underserved communities face when accessing healthcare, especially mental health services. My goal is to address these disparities by offering culturally sensitive care and actively working to improve accessibility. I believe that representation matters, and as a Latina woman, I hope to inspire others from diverse backgrounds to seek help and consider careers in healthcare. In the future, I plan to combine my expertise in mental health counseling with my social media experience to reach broader audiences. Whether it’s through public workshops, online campaigns, or direct client interactions, my mission is to promote a world where mental health is seen as an integral part of overall well-being. By pursuing a degree in healthcare, I am not just building a career—I am embracing a calling to uplift, support, and empower others. As a woman in this field, I am committed to leaving a legacy of compassion, resilience, and advocacy for mental health.

Mental health has been a transformative force in my life, influencing how I view myself, connect with others, and envision my future. I haven’t always been as empathetic as I am today. Growing up, I often struggled to fully understand or relate to others' emotions, which impacted my relationships and limited my ability to offer meaningful support. However, my academic journey in psychology and my professional experiences on social media have fundamentally changed that. Studying psychology was a turning point for me. It provided the tools to better understand human behavior, emotional complexities, and the ways people cope with challenges. Learning about topics like emotional intelligence and cognitive-behavioral patterns opened my eyes to the importance of empathy in building genuine relationships. It also gave me a framework for self-reflection, helping me recognize my own emotional blind spots and grow as a person. My decade-long career as a social media influencer further developed my empathy. Engaging with a diverse audience online exposed me to a wide range of personal stories, from triumphs to deep struggles. Many followers shared their challenges with mental health, trusting me to listen and offer support. These interactions were humbling and profoundly impactful, reinforcing the importance of compassion and the role it plays in fostering connection. While I initially felt unprepared to help on a deeper level, these experiences solidified my desire to pursue a career in mental health counseling. Today, as I work toward a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I bring these lessons into my studies and future aspirations. My goal is to empower others to navigate their mental health journeys with resilience and hope. I plan to focus on helping individuals manage anxiety, stress, and the unique challenges of career transitions—issues I’ve experienced firsthand. In addition to one-on-one counseling, I hope to make a broader impact by combining my mental health expertise with my background in social media. This might include creating accessible online resources, hosting virtual workshops, or advocating for mental health awareness in digital spaces. I am also interested in integrating aspects of gaming with counseling and therapy. I want to make an innovative invention to bridge the two. Ultimately, my journey from struggling with empathy to becoming a mental health advocate reflects the power of growth and understanding. I’m committed to making a positive impact by supporting others as they face life’s challenges, fostering a world where mental health is valued and prioritized.

Mental health has profoundly shaped my life for the best, both through personal experiences and my interactions with others. As someone who has faced challenges like stress, anxiety, and self-doubt, I’ve learned that addressing mental health is not just about overcoming struggles but also about embracing growth and resilience. These experiences have not only impacted me but also ignited my passion for helping others navigate their own mental health journeys. During my time as a professional video game streamer, I often found myself in the role of an informal support system for my audience. Many viewers reached out, sharing their struggles with anxiety, depression, and even suicidal thoughts. These candid conversations opened my eyes to the prevalence of mental health challenges, especially within online spaces where people often feel isolated or misunderstood. Hearing their stories and offering encouragement was deeply humbling and inspired me to do more. While I provided a listening ear, there were times when I felt unequipped to provide the level of help they needed. This realization became a turning point in my life, leading me to pursue formal education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I wanted to transform my empathy and desire to help into practical skills that could make a meaningful difference. Personally, navigating my mental health journey has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and self-compassion. There were moments, especially during major life transitions, where I felt overwhelmed and unsure of my path. For instance, stepping away from a decade-long career to pursue a new profession was both exciting and terrifying. It required me to confront fears of failure and uncertainty while staying focused on my long-term goals. Therapy, mindfulness practices, and support from loved ones played pivotal roles in helping me stay grounded and regain confidence. These experiences have shaped my approach to mental health advocacy. I am committed to fostering environments where mental health is normalized and resources are accessible. Through social media, I share messages about the importance of seeking help, managing stress, and prioritizing well-being. Additionally, I am passionate about working with first-generation students and others navigating high-pressure environments, providing the guidance and empathy I once needed. Ultimately, being impacted by mental health challenges has strengthened my resolve to be a source of hope and support for others. My journey continues to remind me that while struggles are part of life, so too are resilience, connection, and the capacity to heal.
So You Want to Be a Mental Health Professional Scholarship
As a college student passionate about mental health, I believe that creating a positive impact begins with fostering awareness, offering support, and actively working to reduce stigma. Mental health challenges affect students in significant ways, from academic performance to personal relationships. By taking intentional actions, I can help create an environment where mental health is prioritized and normalized. One of the most effective ways to make an impact is through advocacy and education. I can use my voice to start conversations about mental health in my school community, whether through informal discussions with peers or participating in organized events. For example, I could collaborate with campus organizations to host workshops or seminars focused on topics like stress management, mindfulness, and the importance of seeking help. These events would provide valuable tools while encouraging open dialogue about mental health. Another way to create a positive impact is by being a source of support for those around me. Active listening and empathy are powerful tools when helping someone who may be struggling. By offering a safe space for others to share their feelings without fear of judgment, I can help foster a culture of understanding and care. Additionally, I can encourage friends or classmates to seek professional help when needed, connecting them with on-campus counseling services or community resources. Building a supportive community also means taking steps to destigmatize mental health challenges. I can use platforms available to me, such as social media or class discussions, to share personal experiences or advocate for greater awareness. As someone with a background in online gaming, I have seen how these platforms can influence people’s perspectives. I plan to leverage this experience to share content that highlights the importance of mental well-being, encourages self-care, and normalizes seeking professional support. Additionally, I can contribute by volunteering with local organizations focused on mental health. Whether it’s assisting at a helpline, organizing awareness events, or providing support in community centers, these opportunities allow me to gain firsthand experience while making a direct impact. Finally, leading by example is crucial. By prioritizing my own mental health—setting boundaries, practicing self-care, and seeking support when needed—I can inspire others to do the same. People are more likely to value mental health when they see its positive effects on those around them. Through these actions, I aim to create a ripple effect of awareness, support, and positive change in my college community and beyond. Mental health is a shared responsibility, and every small action contributes to a healthier, more supportive environment for all.
Learner Mental Health Empowerment for Health Students Scholarship
Mental health is deeply important to me as a student because it serves as the foundation for academic success, personal growth, and meaningful connections. The journey through higher education is demanding, requiring not only intellectual effort but also emotional resilience. Without prioritizing mental health, it’s easy to fall into patterns of burnout, self-doubt, or isolation, all of which can hinder success and well-being. As a first-generation student and someone who has navigated the challenges of career transitions, I know firsthand how critical mental health is to overcoming obstacles and thriving in both academics and life. For me, prioritizing mental health begins with self-awareness. I actively integrate practices such as mindfulness, regular exercise, and time with loved ones into my daily routine. These habits help me manage stress, stay grounded, and maintain focus on my academic goals. When I face moments of overwhelm, I remind myself that asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a step toward strength. Seeking support from mentors, peers, and family has been transformative, allowing me to stay balanced and resilient in the face of challenges. Advocating for mental health in my community has become a mission I carry with pride. At school, I strive to normalize discussions about mental well-being by fostering open and inclusive conversations. For example, in group projects, I encourage my peers to share their perspectives and create an environment of mutual support. By modeling empathy and understanding, I help others feel seen and valued, which can make a significant difference in stressful academic settings. Beyond the classroom, I use my social media platforms to raise awareness about mental health, particularly within online gaming communities where I’ve built a strong following. Over the years, I’ve noticed how gaming spaces can simultaneously provide comfort and exacerbate mental health struggles. To address this, I share content that emphasizes balance, self-care, and the importance of seeking help when needed. My goal is to create an online culture where mental health conversations are normalized, and resources are accessible to all. Looking ahead, my commitment to mental health advocacy will only deepen as I progress in my graduate studies in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I plan to use my education to expand my efforts, organizing workshops and outreach programs that focus on mental health education, particularly for underrepresented communities such as first-generation students or those in high-pressure industries. Ultimately, advocating for mental health means fostering a culture where individuals feel empowered to prioritize their well-being. Whether in my role as a student, a content creator, or a future counselor, I remain committed to creating spaces where people feel safe, supported, and inspired to care for themselves emotionally and mentally. By doing so, I hope to contribute to a broader movement that values mental health as an essential aspect of life and success.

Over the past decade as a professional video game streamer, I witnessed firsthand how online communities can be both a source of connection and a breeding ground for emotional struggles. Many viewers shared their personal challenges with me, from dealing with anxiety to feelings of isolation. These interactions sparked my passion for mental health advocacy, as I often found myself offering encouragement, listening without judgment, and directing individuals toward professional resources. Although my role was informal, I realized the significant impact a compassionate ear could have on someone's well-being. This realization inspired my decision to pursue a career in mental health counseling. As I work toward my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I am building on these experiences with the formal knowledge and skills needed to provide meaningful support. My studies have deepened my understanding of therapeutic techniques, counseling theories, and the importance of fostering safe spaces for people to express themselves. Currently, I continue to help others through my social media platforms, integrating mental health awareness into gaming content. For instance, I create posts about managing stress, seeking help, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance—messages that resonate with my audience. I’ve also started exploring how to merge my gaming background with mental health counseling by fostering inclusive online spaces where people feel heard and valued. Looking ahead, I plan to specialize in helping individuals manage stress, anxiety, and career-related challenges. As a first-generation student and someone transitioning between careers, I understand how overwhelming life changes can feel. This perspective will allow me to empathize deeply with my clients while empowering them to overcome their own obstacles. In addition to one-on-one counseling, I aim to advocate for mental health awareness in online communities and workplaces. By creating accessible resources and offering workshops or group counseling sessions, I hope to bridge the gap between mental health services and those who may otherwise feel hesitant to seek help. Ultimately, my goal is to foster resilience, emotional well-being, and a sense of hope in others. Whether through private practice, community outreach, or online initiatives, I am committed to using my skills, experiences, and education to support others on their mental health journeys.

The first semester of my graduate studies was a defining moment in my life, testing not only my academic capabilities but also my emotional resilience. After spending ten years as a professional video game streamer—a career defined by high pressure, public scrutiny, and unpredictable schedules—I chose to transition into mental health counseling, a field driven by my passion for helping others. This shift was exciting but also daunting. It required me to navigate a rigorous academic program while balancing personal responsibilities and maintaining my mental health. In the beginning, the workload and expectations of graduate school felt overwhelming. Juggling deadlines, readings, and projects with my personal life often left me questioning whether I could succeed. However, I quickly realized that my mental health couldn’t take a back seat—it had to become a priority. Recognizing this was the first step toward creating a healthier balance in my life. To manage stress, I established a structured daily routine. This included blocking out dedicated times for studying, exercise, and relaxation, ensuring that I could meet academic demands without neglecting self-care. One of my favorite stress-relief activities is spending time with my German Shepherd. His boundless energy and companionship offer a sense of calm and joy that counterbalances the intensity of schoolwork. Additionally, connecting with friends and family regularly helps me feel supported and rejuvenated. Another critical step I took was learning to ask for help. Whether seeking guidance from professors or leaning on my support network of family and friends, I came to understand that resilience doesn’t mean handling everything alone. My relationships have been an anchor during challenging times, reminding me of the importance of vulnerability and connection. For example, during a particularly demanding week filled with overlapping deadlines, I reached out to classmates to collaborate and exchange ideas, which not only helped me manage my workload but also deepened my sense of community. Mindfulness practices have also become an integral part of my routine. Journaling allows me to reflect on my goals, celebrate small wins, and process setbacks. Meditation helps me focus and remain present, especially during moments of high stress. These practices ensure I can reset and approach challenges with clarity and determination. Prioritizing my mental health has improved my academic performance and overall quality of life. When I’m in a good mental space, I’m more productive, engaged, and able to contribute meaningfully to discussions and projects. On a personal level, it has strengthened my relationships, helping me stay connected and present with loved ones. As a first-generation student, the stakes of my education feel especially significant. I know the impact it will have on my future, my family, and the communities I aspire to serve. This motivates me to prioritize my well-being, ensuring that I can bring my best self to both my studies and my personal life. My journey has taught me that mental health is the foundation for success—academically, professionally, and personally—and I am committed to maintaining this balance as I continue pursuing my goals.
