My life goals are to become a licensed geriatric physical therapist. The goal is to open my own private practice. I plan to open my practice in an underserved community.
I am most passionate about serving. Finding your purpose in life can be a difficult task, however, I am fortunate enough to know exactly what my purpose is. My purpose is to serve others and I am passionate about that.
I am a great candidate because I come from humble beginnings. I am a firm believer in not allowing your hardships to dictate your future.

James B. McKillip Scholarship for Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is important to me because physical therapy is all about mobility and life, and everyone on this earth desires to have mobility and to have life in the best possible way that they can. I remember being in high school when I received the vision of going into physical therapy. I did not know anyone personally that was in the field, but as I began to research more about the profession, it became quite clear to me. That clarity was, I am one who is passionate about serving others. I am my best self when I have the opportunity to assist those who are in need. That being said, when individuals have to go through physical therapy, those individuals are in their most vulnerable states. And the greatest blessing of all blessings, for me, would be able to say that someone else has entrusted me with their mobility and life, and I plan to help heal them through every second of every physical therapy session.
So, as you can see, physical therapy is more to me than just a profession. This is the calling of my life. I have been on this journey for over ten years and I am not tired. Sometimes I may get discouraged along the way, but I have never questioned my calling or thought about taking another path because there is no other path. Due to me remaining steadfast in my belief that physical therapy is my calling, I received news that I used to dream of. Which that news was that I had been accepted in a physical therapy program and my journey starts this year.
Even as I type these words for this essay, it is still hard to believe that my dream is becoming reality right before my eyes. However, I know that me being accepted into physical therapy school is all by design. Once I become a licensed physical therapist, it is not only important for me to serve my individual clients. But it is important for me to serve those throughout the community. Specifically, to serve the children of who come from my community. It is important to let those know who come from the same places that I came from, that you can make it.
Once I become that licensed physical therapist, my contribution will take place through the acts of serving and empowering. Those same two acts that I would have liked to receive along my journey when I was a child. Finances are one of the reasons why my journey has taken me so long to achieve. This scholarship would be a great assistance for me as I continue to live out my calling, and maybe, even have a fund aimed towards the youth that have the vision of wanting to enter into the profession of physical therapy or STEM. Thank you.
