My journey toward becoming a physical therapist specializing in pelvic floor therapy is deeply rooted in my upbringing and personal experiences. Growing up in a two-parent household with immigrant parents from Nigeria, I witnessed firsthand the resilience and determination required to overcome obstacles and achieve success. Both of my parents pursued higher education from scratch, with my mom earning her Doctorate in Nursing and my dad becoming a linguist. Surrounded by successful individuals, many of whom were healthcare professionals, I was inspired to pursue my purpose early in life. However, I recognized a disparity among my classmates, particularly People of Color (POC), who lacked exposure to opportunities in the healthcare field. This realization fueled my desire to narrow the divide and serve as a role model for my peers. I aspire to create representation for POC in an industry where they are often underrepresented, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment. My journey towards physical therapy was catalyzed by an experience with my high school physical therapist, Dr. Romo. Suffering from a severe ankle injury during a football practice drill, I initially struggled with the uncertainty of my medical future. However, Dr. Romo's compassionate care and holistic therapy approach not only facilitated my physical recovery but also nurtured an emotional connection that resonated deeply with me. Witnessing the profound impact of Dr. Romo's empathetic care inspired me to pursue a career in physical therapy, with a focus on cultivating meaningful connections with my future patients. Through my experiences as a Resident Assistant (RA) for the past two years, I honed essential leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Supporting residents from diverse backgrounds, including a student from Myanmar, allowed me to foster empathy and understanding while providing guidance and support. My ability to actively listen and empathize with others enabled me to establish rapport and build trust, qualities that are essential for effective patient care in physical therapy. Looking towards the future, I envision owning my own clinic as a platform to create a lasting legacy and make a meaningful impact in my community. My clinic will prioritize accessibility and inclusivity, providing quality care for individuals from all walks of life, especially those from underserved communities. By offering specialized services, such as pelvic floor therapy, I hope to address unmet needs and empower individuals to prioritize their health and well-being. In addition to clinical practice, I am committed to shining my light through mentorship, advocacy, and community engagement. I aim to be a beacon of hope and inspiration for future generations of aspiring healthcare professionals, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. By sharing my journey and experiences, I hope to encourage others to pursue their passions and overcome obstacles on their path to success. In summary, my journey towards physical therapy is driven by a deep-seated desire to make a difference and create a legacy of compassion, inclusivity, and empowerment. Through my future clinic and ongoing commitment to service, I aim to embody these values and leave a lasting impact on the lives of others.

Two weeks before I enroll at Illinois College a tragic event happened to me and my family. This day I was running errands for my mom and getting ready for my move into Illinois College. On July 30th, I was driving down Tara Boulevard in Lovejoy, Ga on the Southside of Atlanta on a sunny afternoon. Usually, this road is filled with traffic, but on this day it was free. I was getting ready to make a left turn, but my head was telling me to go the long way home because I had food in the car that would tumble over if I made turns. Nonetheless, I decided to take a left turn. As I'm in the turning lane I see no cars going straight, and I see a plethora of cars in the yield lane just stopped. So, I decided to turn and “BOOM” a motorcycle hits me! Once the motorcycle hit me, I put the car in park and started shaking for about 15 seconds. Once I'm shaken in reality, I rush out of the car and make sure the other driver was okay. A lot of people rushed out of their cars to make sure me and the driver of the motorcycle were okay. The driver of the motorcycle was screaming in pain. The police and ambulance came so fast. They were asking me a lot of questions about what happened. I was so scared that I was going to jail because I always watch police shows and when an accident occurs the person that caused it always goes to jail. However, since it was an accident, I was given a citation. Once all this was hitting me all at once, it hit me that life can change in a quick instance. At this moment, I was mad at myself for causing this pain to another human. Other witnesses saw my depressed face and hammered it down my throat that “accidents happen”. At this moment, I knew this would impact me forever. I didn`t feel like eating for days. The night after the accident, I was scared to go to sleep because I felt I was going to have horrific nightmares. I`ve driven in the car as the passenger on the road that the accident occurred on, and vivid images always pop up in my head. I was also scared to drive and every time I was in the car with someone I would cringe. I damaged my parent's 2012 Nissan Armada, and they missed a lot of time from work, and they never were upset with me. They were just happy I was okay. At this moment, I found out material things really don`t matter in the big scheme of life. My parents continued to put in my head that “it was an accident”. I`m appreciative of my parents' continual unconditional love during this trying time. Family is a very important aspect of my life. Once my uncles and aunts heard about the accident and I got a lot of great heartfelt messages. Those messages made my spirit higher. Days after the accident, I was scared to drive, but my mom kept on persisting me to drive, so I can beat the phobia of driving. In hindsight, my mom was right because I felt comfortable again driving. Without my family`s support, I wouldn`t be able to push through this triumph time. Tough times never last, tough people do. This accident has impacted me a lot, but it is not what happens to me, it`s how I decide to respond to it that matters.

I will be attending physical therapy school in the fall. Numerous People of Color in the United States lack access to opportunities in the healthcare field, preventing them from pursing certain career paths. I was privileged to grow up in a two-parent, immigrant-parent household. My parents are from Nigeria and had to labor diligently to achieve their current status. My parents had to begin their educational pursuits from scratch. My mom has her Doctorate in Nursing, and my dad is a linguist. My parents surrounded me with successful individuals, the majority of whom were physical therapists, nurses, and doctors. This exposure enabled me to embark on my purpose early. My classmates did not have the same exposure as I did, and I want to narrow that divide. I want my classmates/POC to see someone who resembles them in an industry where they typically do not see anyone who looks like them. Prior to receiving treatment for a severe ankle injury from my high school physical therapist, Dr. Romo, I was unsure of the medical specialty I desired to pursue. I got injured doing a back pedaling drill at football practice. I was coping with a week away from football, which caused me to be more introverted, but Dr. Romo's highly encouraging energy allowed me to reciprocate. Dr. Romo's therapy plan and his ability to connect with me on an emotional level allowed me to get back healthy and perform well the next week. People believe that physical prowess is the only factor that determines an athlete's success; however, the mind enables the body to perfect many aspects of the sport. If the psyche is not in the proper place, the athlete will not perform at their best. The way I was feeling when I was on the field after the injury had me amazed on how someone can get another human being feeling healthy with holistic therapy and no medications. This experience created a curiosity in me that led me to research more about the muscles in the body and the movement of the specific muscles. This research has allowed me to be more aware of my body when I work out or when I am at football practice. The body is working every second and gives us cues to alert us on what the body needs. My research has also allowed me to learn about the benefits of how specific exercises affect specific muscle groups. Before my ankle injury, I would go to the gym and lift weights just to lift weights, but now I lift with a purpose in mind, and I focus on how I can implement different exercises that benefit me to be a better athlete. Since I have been able to improve myself and seek out new experiences, I am confident that my ability to seek out new information will enable me to learn and pursue an understanding of various perspectives in a clinical setting.

As a member of the Black community, I have witnessed firsthand the immense challenges we face in regard to mental health. The historical burdens and systemic injustices have left deep scars on our collective psyche. However, I envision a utopian future where our mental well-being is prioritized, and mental health care and advocacy become powerful tools for achieving social justice. In this essay, I will outline my personalized utopian vision for optimal mental health in the Black community and how it can lead to transformative social change. In my utopian vision, mental health care for the Black community embraces cultural empathy. Mental health professionals would receive comprehensive training that encompasses the unique experiences, cultural nuances, and historical context of people of African descent. This understanding would foster trust, create safe spaces for healing, and break down the barriers that have prevented many of us from seeking help. Increasing the representation of Black mental health professionals would also be a priority, ensuring that our diverse community feels understood and supported. Central to my utopian vision is the empowerment of our communities through community-led mental health initiatives. We would establish inclusive and accessible programs that cater to our specific needs, providing culturally relevant support groups, healing circles, and mentorship programs. These initiatives would nurture collective healing, resilience-building, and the exchange of coping strategies within our communities. By taking ownership of our mental well-being, we can dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and create an environment where seeking support is encouraged. Education and empowerment would be key components of my utopian vision. Schools, community centers, and grassroots organizations would collaborate to implement comprehensive mental health education programs. These programs would focus on increasing awareness of common mental health conditions, fostering self-care practices, and highlighting available resources. By equipping our community with knowledge and skills, we empower individuals to advocate for their mental health needs, create supportive networks, and challenge the status quo. In my utopian vision, mental health care would embrace intersectionality and cater to the diverse identities and experiences within the Black community. LGBTQ+ individuals, women, disabled individuals, and other marginalized groups would receive specialized support, acknowledging the unique challenges they face. Mental health services would prioritize inclusivity, dismantling the biases and discrimination that have perpetuated inequalities within our community. By embracing the complexities of our identities, mental health care can become a catalyst for broader social justice efforts. Advocacy would play a pivotal role in my utopian vision. We would actively engage with policymakers to advocate for structural changes that address the root causes of mental health disparities in our community. This includes fighting for equitable funding for mental health programs, improving access to quality care, and challenging racial bias within mental health institutions. We would also champion policies that address the social determinants of mental health, such as affordable housing, quality education, and employment opportunities. By tackling these systemic issues, we can create lasting change and foster a society that values the mental well-being of all its members. My personalized utopian vision for optimal mental health in the Black community is grounded in the belief that our collective healing and social justice are intertwined. By prioritizing culturally empathetic mental health care, community-led initiatives, education, intersectionality, and advocacy for structural change, we can build a future where mental well-being is not only valued but nurtured within our community. This vision celebrates our resilience, strength, and ability to transform adversity into opportunities for growth. Together, we can create a society where every individual in the Black community

This essay aims to describe my personal experiences and the lasting effects of mental health struggles, highlighting the importance of awareness, support, and resilience. As a teenager, I found myself facing the overwhelming weight of anxiety and depression. At the time, I struggled to understand and address these internal battles. They impacted my self-esteem, relationships, and academic performance, making even simple tasks seem insurmountable. The resulting isolation only worsened the cycle of negative emotions, trapping me in a relentless downward spiral. Recognizing the detrimental impact on my overall well-being, I made the brave decision to seek professional help. Overcoming this stigma required me to educate others, raise awareness, and advocate for mental health initiatives. By bravely sharing my own experiences, I aimed to challenge preconceived notions, foster empathy, and encourage understanding. Mental health struggles can have a profound impact on personal relationships. Throughout my journey, I discovered that open communication with loved ones was crucial. By sharing my experiences and vulnerabilities, I allowed for deeper connections and built a strong support system during difficult times. Henry Respert Alzheimer's and Dementia Awareness Scholarship
Alzheimer's disease, a progressive neurological disorder, has cast its dark shadow over my community, leaving a trail of heartache, confusion, and profound changes. Witnessing the impact of this devastating illness has not only opened my eyes to the challenges faced by individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's but has also taught me invaluable lessons about compassion, resilience, and the importance of support within our community. The first and most noticeable impact of Alzheimer's disease on our community is the profound effect it has on individuals diagnosed with the illness. I have seen vibrant personalities fade away, replaced by confusion, memory loss, and a diminishing sense of self. The loss of cognitive function and memory creates a disorienting world for those living with Alzheimer's, leading to frustration, anxiety, and a sense of isolation. The simple tasks of daily living become arduous, and cherished memories slip away like sand through the fingers. Equally significant is the toll Alzheimer's takes on the caregivers within our community. Family members and friends willingly step into the role of caregivers, but the responsibilities can be overwhelming and emotionally draining. Witnessing a loved one's decline, managing their daily needs, and coping with the emotional toll can lead to caregiver burnout, depression, and a profound sense of grief. The demands of caregiving often disrupt routines, strain relationships, and impact the caregiver's own physical and mental health. The impact on the community is felt deeply as resources and support systems become essential for those navigating the challenging journey of caregiving. Additionally, the financial burden of Alzheimer's disease on individuals and families within our community cannot be underestimated. The cost of medical care, medication, home modifications, and professional caregiving services can quickly escalate, placing a significant strain on financial resources. For many families, the financial implications of Alzheimer's disease force difficult decisions, including altering career paths, depleting savings, or relying on government assistance programs. The economic impact extends beyond the individual and affects the wider community, placing a burden on healthcare systems and social support networks. However, amidst the challenges and heartache, I have also witnessed the incredible strength, resilience, and compassion within our community. Support groups, community organizations, and advocacy initiatives have emerged, providing a lifeline for those affected by Alzheimer's. These resources offer a safe space for individuals and caregivers to share their experiences, seek guidance, and find solace in the company of others facing similar challenges. Through support groups and educational programs, community members become better equipped to navigate the complex journey of Alzheimer's, gaining knowledge about the disease, coping strategies, and accessing valuable resources. Furthermore, I have learned that raising awareness about Alzheimer's disease is crucial for our community. Breaking the stigma and fostering understanding is essential in providing support and resources for individuals and families affected by the disease. Community events, fundraising efforts, and awareness campaigns shine a light on the impact of Alzheimer's, fostering empathy, and encouraging community members to take action. Increased awareness also promotes early detection, allowing for timely intervention and better management of the disease's progression. In witnessing the impact of Alzheimer's disease on my community, I have come to appreciate the power of compassion and support. I have learned that even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by the disease. A listening ear, a helping hand, or simply showing empathy and understanding can provide immeasurable comfort and support during challenging times. Moreover, I have developed a profound respect for the caregivers who selflessly dedicate themselves to their loved ones' care. Their unwavering commitment, resilience, and strength inspire me to advocate for better support systems, increased resources, and accessible services within our community.

Living a healthy lifestyle is essential to me because I like it and want to be able to continue doing so for as long as possible. The more unwell I get, the shorter my years seem to be. I appreciate living a healthy lifestyle since it improves my overall mood and increases my propensity to devote everything I have to whatever I do. A healthy lifestyle also increases my self-confidence, and I can do anything when I believe in myself. When I feel confident, I can believe in myself. I also want to stay healthy because I want to have kids and breed healthy offspring in the future. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, I am consistent and disciplined. Even though I may not always want to exercise, I must conquer this demon because a single day of inconsistency could trigger a string of them. I often lift weights for an hour and do running exercises to be active. In order to keep my muscles loose and flexible, I stretch for around 10 minutes as soon as I wake up in the morning and before I go to bed at night. I never want to have to experience breathing heavily when climbing stairs. In all I do, I want to be able to breathe easily. A notebook is also necessary for me to keep track of my workout schedule and exercise regimen. Since my phone is constantly close by, it automatically turns off at 11 p.m. every night if I'm still using it, allowing me to get a good night's sleep. Since I play collegiate football, my nutrition varies from the ordinary person's. Due to the demanding training I must undertake, I often burn between 3,000 and 4,000 calories daily. I need to eat a lot to fuel my body to continue performing at my best. I consume a lot of nutritious stuff. Water is a crucial resource. Since I started drinking a gallon of water every day two years ago, I feel healthier, and my face appears younger. My severe cramps have also lessened thanks to water. In high school, I occasionally drank water, but not as much as an athlete should. I also maintain a healthy lifestyle by ensuring I get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night and a midday nap. I need enough sleep to be able to function and perform effectively in my task as a collegiate student athlete with many tasks to fulfill.

I was always attracted to the outdoors as a child. I adored spending time in nature, whether I was hiking, camping, or discovering new trails. Not until I encountered rock climbing did I find my true passion. During a family vacation to North Carolina, I was first introduced to climbing. As we traversed a popular park, we passed by granite cliffs that seemed to reach for the heavens. I was awestruck by the landscape's beauty and grandeur, and I couldn't help but feel drawn to the challenge of scaling those enormous walls. After returning from our vacation, I researched rock climbing and located a local facility offering beginner classes. I was initially apprehensive, but once I stepped onto the wall, I was captivated. Climbing captivated me due to its physical and mental difficulty. I began frequenting the facility and progressively increased the difficulty of the climbs I attempted. I enjoyed the sense of accomplishment that came with completing a difficult task, and the community of climbers who shared my passion inspired me. As my interest in the discipline grew, I sought out opportunities to climb outdoors. I traveled to various climbing destinations throughout the United States, investigating new terrain and testing my limits. I enjoyed the sense of freedom and adventure that came with climbing, whether it was a technical climb up a precipitous face or a bouldering session on a stony outcrop. In addition to physical stamina and talent, climbing is also a mental challenge. As I confronted increasingly challenging ascents, I had to learn how to manage dread and uncertainty by trusting my intuition and persevering through periods of doubt. Climbing has taught me to be more assured and confident on and off the wall. Climbing is no longer merely a hobby or a recreation for me; it is a way of life. It has introduced me to new acquaintances and communities and deepened my appreciation for the majesty and strength of the natural world. I am appreciative for the experiences and challenges that climbing has brought into my life, and I eagerly anticipate continuing to explore new heights and test my limits. Two weeks before I enrolled at Illinois College a tragic event happened to me and my family. On a sunny afternoon in July, I was driving down Tara Boulevard in Lovejoy, Ga, on the Southside of Atlanta. Usually, this road is filled with traffic, but on this day it was free. I was getting ready to make a left turn, but my head was telling me to go the long way home because I had food in the car that would tumble over if I made turns. Nonetheless, I decided to take a left turn. As I was in the turning lane, I saw no cars going straight, and a plethora of cars in the yield lane had just stopped. So, I decided to turn and boom, a motorcycle hits me! I quickly got out the car and rushed to the man I hit. At that moment, I was mad at myself for causing this pain to another human. Other witnesses saw my depressed face and hammered it down my throat that accidents happen. At that point in time, I knew this would impact me forever. I didn`t feel like eating for days. The night after the accident, I was scared to go to sleep because I felt I was going to have horrific nightmares. A couple days after the accident, I was in the car in the passenger seat on the road that the accident occurred on, and vivid images always popped up in my head. I damaged my parent's 2012 Nissan Armada, causing them to miss a lot of time from work, but they were never upset with me. They were just happy I was okay. At that point, I realized that material things really don`t matter in the grand scheme of life. My parents continued to put in my head that it was an accident. I`m appreciative of my parents' continual unconditional love during that trying time. Family is a very important aspect of my life. Once my uncles and aunts heard about the accident; I got a lot of great heartfelt messages. Those messages lifted my spirt. Days after the accident, I was scared to drive, but my mom persisted that I drive, so I could beat the phobia of driving. So, a week after the accident, my dad was in the passenger seat while I was driving for the first time after the accident. My dad was acting like I couldn`t drive, telling me to put both hands on the wheel, but I felt his encouragement throughout the drive. In hindsight, my mom was right because I felt comfortable again driving. Without my family`s support, I wouldn`t have been able to push through this crisis. This is the first time I’ve ever gone through a traumatic experience in my life. I`m surprised I was even able to write about it without shedding a tear. At first, I thought I would just carry that phobia for years. However, the support from my family made the healing process very smooth. Tough times never last, tough people do. This accident has impacted me a lot, but it is not what happens to me, it`s how I decide to respond to it that matters.

The burden of unpaid student loans is a substantial obstacle for a considerable number of individuals in the United States. Because of the high cost of tuition and the little financial help available, a significant number of students are forced to take out loans in order to finance the expense of their education. As a consequence of this, a considerable number of graduating students are burdened with a substantial amount of debt, which may be daunting and challenging to repay. I will outline the steps I am doing and the plans I have in place to deal with my existing and future student loan debt. Firstly, I am currently working a part-time job at my college 15 hours a week while studying to help reduce the amount of student loan debt I take on. In addition, I am seeking and applying for scholarships, grants, and other forms of financial assistance to help cover my educational costs. Scholarships and grants are excellent sources of financial support because, unlike loans, they do not require repayment. I have been privileged enough to receive a few scholarships and grants, which have helped me cover a portion of my expenses. In addition, I am always on the lookout for new opportunities to apply for financial aid, as new opportunities are always available. I also am investigating the income-based repayment options available for federal student loans. These plans make my monthly payments more feasible based on my income and family size. Although these plans may lengthen my repayment period and cause me to pay more interest in the long run, they may give me some breathing room in the short term so I can focus on developing my career. Having debt from student loans may be a huge burden for many individuals; however, some actions can be taken to address this issue. To handle my existing and potential future student loan debt, I am contemplating various solutions, including getting a part-time job and filling out applications for scholarships and grants. Even if every option has both advantages and disadvantages, combining them into one plan could be the most effective way for me to lower the total cost of my student loans and pay them off as fast and easily as is humanly feasible. In the end, it is necessary to maintain a proactive and involved stance toward the management of student loan debt in order to prevent being burdened by it for a significant amount of time after graduation.

I owe everything that makes me who I am today to the support of my family. My parents were required to begin their schooling in the United States, therefore, my mother and father brought me here to the United States when I was one year old. I am originally from Nigeria. Their perseverance in the face of change demonstrated that if you set your mind to something, there is no obstacle you cannot overcome. Throughout my life, I have had several opportunities to serve my community in a way that has positively influenced that community. During my senior year of high school, I participated in a community service project that assisted with refurbishing a nearby playground. This was one instance of this kind of thing that happened to me. My town's playground was situated in a low-income neighborhood, and despite its location, it had not been maintained for many years. The playground had deteriorating and rusting playground equipment, uneven terrain, and rubbish strewn all over the area for children to play in. Not only was the playground an eyesore, but it was also not a place where children should feel comfortable playing. As a direct consequence of this, nobody in the community was utilizing it anymore. A neighborhood community group proposed the concept of re-imagining the playground as part of their mission. They had been awarded a grant to cover the costs of the project, but they still needed volunteer labor for the refurbishment. I was a member of a group of volunteers that consisted of people from the community, high school students, and owners of local businesses. Our mission was to clean up the playground, remove outdated playsets, and replace them with a new, child-friendly apparatus. Participating in community service initiatives as a volunteer is a fantastic opportunity to benefit the world around you. Working on the project to renovate the playground taught me the importance of putting in a hard effort, cooperating with others, and providing service to others. Knowing that I had helped bring about a change for the better in my neighborhood was a gratifying and satisfying aspect of this experience.

Self-care involves attending to my physical, mental, and emotional health. This can include having enough sleep, consuming a healthy diet, exercising routinely, and engaging in enjoyable and relaxing activities. Self-care can also involve establishing boundaries, declining overwhelming or distressing activities, and practicing mindfulness meditation to reduce tension and enhance mental health. Having a support system is crucial for managing mental illness. This may include family members, acquaintances, and mental health professionals. It is essential for me to surround myself with individuals who are understanding and supportive of the difficulties associated with mental illness. In addition to providing a sense of community, joining a support group can help me connect with others who are experiencing similar challenges. Developing coping strategies can help me manage my mental illness symptoms. Cognitive-behavioral techniques, such as challenging and replacing negative beliefs with positive ones, are what help me be sane. My name is Chuks Nwaokolo. My hometown is Hampton, Georgia, and I intend to work in physical therapy. Kinesiology is the area of study that I am now pursuing at Illinois College, where I am a junior. I enjoy hanging out with my family and playing football in my free time. I owe everything that makes me who I am today to the support of my family. My parents were required to begin their schooling in the United States, therefore, my mother and father brought me here to the United States when I was one year old. Their perseverance in the face of change demonstrated that if you set your mind to something, there is no obstacle you cannot overcome. I want to earn my doctorate in physical therapy. This will lessen the gap in the number of Black doctors in the healthcare field. This will allow Black people to trust medical professionals that look like them. Whenever you see someone that looks like you you are more comfortable and more vulnerable to them. I also want to be a physical therapist because it is a rapidly expanding field with a high need for qualified professionals. As the population ages and the incidence of chronic diseases and injuries rises, it is anticipated that the demand for physical therapy services will continue to rise, providing excellent job security and career opportunities for those pursuing a career in this field. Physical therapists play a crucial role in preventing future injuries, promoting healthy lifestyles, and helping patients recover from injuries or ailments. I was injured in high school, and the presence of a physical therapist allowed me to return to health holistically, as well as conduct research on the body's functions to prevent future injuries. One of the distinguishing characteristics of physical therapy is the opportunity to develop long-lasting relationships with patients. Frequently, physical therapists work with patients over an extended period of time, guiding them through the recovery process and recognizing their progress along the way. This can be immensely rewarding and satisfying for me because I appreciate establishing strong relationships with others.

Recovery is a profoundly individual concept that can have various connotations for different individuals. Recovery is the cleansing and transformation process resulting from overcoming life's challenges and obstacles. In addition to physical restoration, recovery involves emotional, mental, and spiritual rehabilitation. Recovery entails recognizing our suffering and difficulties, committing to finding solutions and moving forward. Recovery requires courage, tenacity, and a willingness to take risks and experiment with new things. It entails assuming responsibility for one's well-being and obtaining the support and resources necessary to achieve one's objectives. Finding meaning and purpose in our lives is another aspect of recovery for me. It involves rediscovering our passions, values, and strengths and employing them to create a fulfilling and meaningful existence. Recovery is a process, not a destination, and maintaining our progress requires ongoing commitment and effort. In the end, recuperation requires acknowledging the force of change and expansion. It is the realization that we have the power to transform our lives and create a future filled with optimism, pleasure, and possibility.
    Novitas Diverse Voices Scholarship
The influence of diverse voices in public relations can significantly shape public narratives. Diverse perspectives and experiences lead to novel insights and inventive approaches to problem-solving, which can lead to more effective and inclusive communication strategies. By including a variety of voices in public relations, organizations can better comprehend and communicate with their audiences, as well as advance social justice and equity. Public relations is fundamentally about fostering relationships between an organization and its constituents. These relationships are founded on trust, authenticity, and comprehension, all of which are enhanced by a variety of voices. When a company only considers a limited number of viewpoints, it risks alienating certain groups and missing out on crucial insights. A company that only employs white males for its public relations team may find it difficult to interact with women and people of color, who may have different experiences and perspectives on the issues at hand. In addition to promoting more inclusive messaging and communication strategies, diverse voices in public relations can also serve to promote inclusive messaging. Organizations can avoid perpetuating detrimental stereotypes and biases in their communications by incorporating diverse perspectives. This is particularly crucial in a world where social media and other online platforms can rapidly amplify and disseminate detrimental messages and narratives. Furthermore, public relations can shape public opinion and affect public policy. When organizations use their platforms to advocate for social justice issues and promote inclusive narratives, they can contribute to positive social change. For instance, a nonprofit organization that employs diverse perspectives in its public relations efforts to raise awareness about environmental issues may be more effective at promoting sustainable behaviors among the general public and influencing policy decisions. Another essential element of diverse voices in public relations is the capacity to challenge the status quo and promote greater diversity and inclusion within organizations. By employing and promoting individuals from diverse backgrounds, organizations can foster a more welcoming and inclusive workplace culture, which can ultimately result in more effective public relations strategies. Moreover, organizations that embrace diversity in their public relations efforts may attract a more diverse consumer base, resulting in increased revenue and brand loyalty. The influence of diverse voices in public relations can significantly shape public narratives. Organizations can create more effective and inclusive communication strategies, promote greater social justice and equity, and challenge the status quo by incorporating a variety of perspectives and experiences. Ultimately, the success of public relations efforts depends on the ability to interact with and engage audiences, and diverse voices can be an effective tool for accomplishing this objective.

I've always wanted to assist those in need and leave a positive mark on the world. This desire has led me to pursue community service and disaster relief work, as I believe that these areas offer some of the most meaningful and impactful ways to give back to others. When I was young, my parents imparted the importance of giving back to others, sparking my interest in community service. My parents made it clear that assisting others was our family's top priority, whether volunteering at local charities, participating in fundraising events, or just helping out our neighbors. My work with underprivileged populations sparked my initial interest in disaster relief work. Witnessing the devastating effects of natural disasters on communities and individuals was a sobering experience. Still, it also taught me the importance of providing assistance and support during times of crisis. Since then, I have devoted myself to domestic and international disaster relief work. Whether responding to natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes or providing aid and relief to homeless people, I believe this work to be among the most meaningful that one can endeavor. In the coming years, I intend to continue my work in community service and disaster relief and contribute even more to these fields. I intend to continue my volunteer work and seek additional opportunities to participate in community service and disaster relief work. I am dedicated to creating an impact in the world and assisting those in need in any way I can, whether through volunteering with local non-profits, participating in disaster relief missions, or simply providing support and assistance. My ultimate objective in engaging in community service and disaster relief work is to impact the world and assist those in need positively. Whether through providing aid and support in times of crisis, working to enhance the lives of disadvantaged populations, or simply lending a hand to those in need. I am tremendously grateful for the experiences I have had and the lessons I have learned on my path to community service and disaster relief work. Through my work in these fields, I've learned the value of empathy, compassion, hard work, and perseverance, and I've been able to make a significant difference in the lives of others. As I look to the future, I am excited about the possibilities and opportunities I will have to contribute more to community service and disaster relief work. Whether volunteering with local non-profits or simply lending a helping hand to those in need, I am committed to making a positive impact on the world and helping those in need in any way I can.

As a child of immigrants, I know firsthand how one can climb the economic and social ladder and improve their standing. My parents—who were certainly not a part of the upper echelon of Nigerian classes—came to America and now live a much better lifestyle than if they stayed back in their land, fit enough to nurture a family and a business. Their braveness has allowed me not to make any excuses. My parents didn't make excuses; they continued to work hard, and I'm grateful. Anytime I would bring back my report card, and there was a "B" on it, my parents would say, "You need to find out what that person with an "A" is doing. In Nigeria, we say "Naija No Day Carry Last," meaning that we will continue to strive to be the best in anything we do. My work with underprivileged populations sparked my initial interest in disaster relief work. The significance of having a strategy is one of the most valuable teachings I've learned from playing chess. You cannot move your pieces randomly and hope for the best in chess. You must have a well-defined strategy and continuously adjust to your opponent's movements. Similarly, when pursuing my career goals, it is essential for me to have a plan outlining the steps to take. Without a plan, I will likely become distracted or overburdened, and my progress may halt. Patience is another important lesson I have learned from playing chess. Chess is a game that requires meticulous thought and planning, and the results of your efforts can take a long time to manifest. Similarly, obtaining my career goal can be a lengthy and challenging process, and it is essential to persevere even when progress seems sluggish. In chess, you must be patient in order to strike at the right moment, and the same is true when pursuing personal objectives. Occasionally, it is preferable to wait for the perfect opportunity rather than to hurry in without a plan. In addition to teaching me patience, chess has also instilled in me the value of perseverance. In chess, you may encounter setbacks or obstacles, but it is essential to persevere and learn from your errors. Similarly, I may face obstacles or setbacks when pursuing a personal objective, but I must persevere and not give up. With perseverance, it is possible to surmount obstacles and accomplish amazing accomplishments. Chess has provided me with numerous teachings that can be applied to attaining my career goals. These include having a distinct plan, being patient and persistent, analyzing my performance, and maintaining composure under duress. I believe that by implementing these teachings, I will be able to accomplish my career goals and continue to develop and progress in every aspect of my life.

I am originally from Nigeria. Their perseverance in the face of change demonstrated that if you set your mind to something, there is no obstacle you cannot overcome. The topic of climate change is one of the societal problems that I feel very strongly about. The impacts of climate change are becoming more evident by the day and are having an impact on the lives of millions of people all around the globe. As a result, I have engaged in a number of activities to have a constructive effect on the world and find a solution to this problem. To begin, I've made certain adjustments to my own lifestyle in order to lower my overall carbon footprint. My first step was to cut down on the amount of electricity I use in the house. I turn off all of the electrical equipment in the house when they are not being used and use light bulbs that are more energy efficient. As a result of learning that the production of meat and dairy products is a big contributor to the emission of greenhouse gases, I have also begun to reduce the amount of these that I put into my body. In addition, I have cut down on the amount of single-use plastics I use. I always make sure to have a reusable water bottle and coffee cup with me so that I don't have to resort to using cups and bottles made of throwaway plastic. I carry my own reusable bags with me to the grocery store. The problem of climate change is an important one that touches the lives of everyone. As a citizen of the world, we must do something about this problem. My goal is to have a good influence on the planet, and I am working toward that goal by adjusting my lifestyle, becoming engaged in activities in my community, and raising awareness about climate change. If we all collaborate on finding a solution to this problem, we will be able to make the world a better place not just for ourselves but also for future generations.

The topic about one's own financial situation is one that might make many people feel uncomfortable. When it comes to matters of money, it is not always simple to figure out how to get started since there are so many distinct techniques and points of view. Nonetheless, one of the most useful pieces of advice about finances that I've been given is to start investing at a young age and maintain a consistent investment strategy. As a result of the power of compound interest, this is the most helpful piece of advice on finances I have ever been given. An original investment earns interest, which is added to the principle. It then earns interest on both the initial and cumulative investments since it was added to the primary. Over time, this will lead to exponential growth since the interest gained on the accumulated interest continues to compound. Beginning to invest early in life provides the most time for the alchemy of compound interest to take effect. By beginning to invest at an early age, even with modest sums, the potential for long-term growth is substantial. Consider a 20-year-old who begins investing $100 per month in a retirement account that yields an average annual return of 7%. By the time they reach age 60, they will have contributed a total of $48,000, but their account will have grown to more than $200,000 due to compound interest. Consistent investment is also essential for the effectiveness of compound interest. This involves making consistent contributions to investments, whether weekly, monthly, or annually. Individuals can take advantage of market fluctuations and dollar-cost averaging by consistently investing. Buying more shares of an investment when the price is low and fewer shares, when the price is high is the concept of dollar-cost averaging. A second reason why beginning to invest early and consistently is the finest financial advice I've ever received is that it positions individuals for long-term financial success. Investing is an essential component of accumulating wealth over time. It can assist individuals in achieving their financial objectives, such as preparing for retirement, a down payment on a home, or a child's education. Moreover, investing can help individuals safeguard their wealth against inflation. Inflation is the increase in the cost of goods and services over time, and it can reduce the purchasing power of savings. However, individuals can secure their money from inflation and preserve its purchasing power by investing in assets that increase in value over time. Investing entails risk, but there are ways to mitigate this risk. Diversification is essential when it comes to investing, as it involves distributing investments across various asset classes, industries, and geographic regions. Individuals can reduce the impact of market fluctuations on their overall portfolio by diversifying their investments. Having a long-term perspective is another way to reduce investment risk. Investing should be viewed as something other than a quick-riches scheme, but rather as a method for long-term financial growth. Individuals can avoid making impulsive decisions based on short-term market fluctuations if they maintain a long-term perspective and instead focus on attaining their long-term financial goals. There are additional financial practices that can aid in attaining financial success, in addition to commencing to invest early and consistently. These include living below your means, creating and sticking to a budget, avoiding debt, and creating an emergency fund. These practices can assist individuals in maximizing their savings and investments and protecting themselves from financial emergencies. The financial advice that has been the most helpful to me has been to begin investing at a young age and be consistent with my efforts. The power of compound interest, which enables growth at an exponential rate over time, is the foundation of this piece of wisdom. People have the opportunity to take advantage of the greatest amount of time available for compound interest to work its magic when they begin investing at a young age. Furthermore, when people invest on a constant basis, they have the opportunity to take advantage of market swings as well as dollar-cost averaging. Investing is a crucial component in the process of establishing long-term financial success. It enables people to realize their monetary objectives and shields their purchasing power from the effects of inflation.

As we confront many environmental challenges, such as climate change, deforestation, and pollution, living sustainably in today's world has become increasingly important. As an individual, I must make conscious decisions to reduce my carbon footprint and live a sustainable lifestyle. Reducing my meat consumption is one of my most consequential decisions to live sustainably. The livestock industry is a substantial contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and water pollution. By consuming less meat and opting for plant-based meals, I reduce my carbon footprint and positively affect the environment. A plant-based diet is not only healthier for the environment but also for my health and well-being. I also make the deliberate decision to reduce my use of plastics. This includes carrying reusable bags to the grocery store, using a refillable water bottle rather than purchasing bottled water, and storing food in reusable containers rather than plastic wrap or bags. Single-use plastics significantly contribute to pollution in our oceans and waterways, and their effects on marine life can be devastating. By reducing my use of these products, I contribute to reducing the quantity of plastic in our environment, which harms wildlife. Whenever feasible, I prefer public transportation, walking, or riding a bicycle over driving alone in a car. The transportation sector is responsible for a considerable amount of greenhouse gas emissions, and one of the ways I'm working to lower my carbon footprint is by selecting non-automotive means of travel. Moreover, taking public transportation, walking, or riding a bicycle is frequently more enjoyable and offers me the chance to get some exercise and fresh air. I am conscious of the environmental impact of the products I purchase. This includes selecting products derived sustainably, made from recycled materials, or manufactured by companies committed to environmental stewardship. By making deliberate decisions about the products I buy, I can support businesses that reduce their environmental impact and promote sustainable practices. Living sustainably is essential to demonstrate our commitment to the planet and future generations. As individuals, we are responsible for being good stewards of the earth and doing our part to protect it for future generations. By making intentional choices to live sustainably in our daily lives, we demonstrate our commitment to this responsibility and work to leave the planet in a better state than we found. We can make numerous conscious decisions to live more sustainably in our daily lives, such as reducing our meat consumption, decreasing our use of single-use plastics, and utilizing alternative modes of transportation. We must make these decisions to reduce our carbon footprint, protect the environment, and demonstrate our commitment to future generations. Living sustainably can positively impact the world and contribute to its preservation.

Generational wealth is the accumulated assets and financial stability passed down from generation to generation. For me, generational wealth means providing financial security for my future family and ensuring that my loved ones have the means to pursue their aspirations and ambitions. I intend to build generational wealth by investing in my education and career. Education is the cornerstone of success and can lead to jobs with higher salaries and more significant earning potential. In addition, I intend to invest in equities, real estate, and other assets with the potential to appreciate over time. By diversifying my investments, I can reduce risk and enhance my long-term growth potential. Minimizing debt and living within my means is crucial to achieving generational wealth. Debt can be a significant burden that impedes financial advancement, so I intend to avoid incurring excessive debt and pay off any existing debt as soon as possible. This will assist me in establishing a solid financial foundation that will allow me to achieve my future objectives and provide a stable financial future for my family. In addition to financial investments, I intend to invest in my relationships with loved ones and family. Strong familial ties can provide emotional support and facilitate the development of a network of trusted people who can offer guidance and support as I navigate life's ups and downs. By maintaining strong relationships with my loved ones and remaining connected to my family, I can ensure they will support my family and me in the future. Lastly, I intend to be proactive regarding estate planning and ensure that my assets are safeguarded and transferred to my family in a manner consistent with my values and priorities. This entails drafting a will, establishing trusts, and collaborating with financial advisors and attorneys to ensure that my assets are managed to optimize their value and minimize the tax burden on my heirs. Creating wealth that I will pass down through generations requires laying a stable financial groundwork to provide for my family's future and ensure they will have the resources and opportunities necessary to achieve their goals and ambitions. If I make this investment in education, diversify my investment portfolio, keep my debt to a minimum, cultivate strong relationships with my loved ones, and take an active role in estate planning, I am certain that I will be able to achieve this objective and leave a lasting memory for my loved ones if I put forth the effort.

I am Nigerian, and I grew up around Black doctors and nurses. I want young Black children to know that there are Black people in the medical field. I have learned that you would only be aware of things with exposure to opportunities. I intend to open my own clinic after receiving my doctorate in physical therapy and hire skilled individuals of color. If I'm in that position, I can keep hiring Black doctors, and when those doctors get established they will continue the process of hiring Black Doctors. This will lessen the gap in the number of Black doctors in the healthcare field. This will allow Black people to trust medical professionals that look like them. Whenever you see someone that looks like you you are more comfortable and more vulnerable to them. Black patients may face disparities in healthcare, including receiving lower quality care and experiencing worse health outcomes than White patients. These disparities may be due to implicit biases held by healthcare providers, lack of cultural competency training, and systemic racism within the healthcare system. Efforts to reduce healthcare disparities and improve health equity for Black patients should also include addressing social determinants of health, such as access to healthy food, safe housing, and quality education. These factors can have a significant impact on overall health and well-being, and addressing them can help to reduce healthcare disparities and promote health equity for all patients. The hiring of more Black Doctors could help resolve the problems of Black patients. Black doctors play an essential role in the medical field, both in providing quality care to patients and addressing healthcare disparities Black patients face. Black doctors can serve as role models and advocates for underrepresented communities in the medical field. They can help address healthcare disparities by increasing access to care, providing culturally responsive care, and advocating for health equity policies. Black doctors can also help to reduce mistrust of the medical system among minority populations, which can improve patient outcomes and increase patient satisfaction. The presence of Black physicians in the medical field is essential as it can contribute to the diversification of the profession and the improvement of patient care. Despite efforts to enhance diversity in the medical field, Black doctors continue to be underrepresented, particularly in leadership positions. It is necessary to continue increasing the number of Black doctors and other underrepresented groups in the medical sector to ensure that all patients receive equitable, high-quality care.

I aspire to become a physical therapist because I want to be able to help people, and my urge to help people will enable me to promote social-emotional health and address the intellectual needs of gifted children. As a physical therapist, I can significantly contribute to the improvement of gifted children's mental and emotional health and intellectual growth. I can assist gifted children in both their physical and mental development by fostering positive relationships, recognizing and cultivating talents, motivating children to engage in active play, working in partnership with parents and teachers, and creating an environment that is supportive. As a Physical therapist, I could add exercises that allow gifted children to pursue their intellectual interests in their sessions. To assist a child in developing cognitive abilities, I could employ puzzles or other games that involve problem-solving skills, for instance. Children that are gifted may have difficulties with social skills such as communication, empathy, and the ability to self-regulate. With the integration of social skills training into my therapy sessions, I can assist children in developing the competencies necessary to cultivate healthy connections with other people. I want to own my own clinic and have many clinics across the United States. As the owner of a clinic, I would have greater control over the treatment plans developed for each child. This allows me to tailor the treatment to meet each child's individual needs, including their social-emotional and intellectual needs. I would create a supportive environment in my clinic that promotes social-emotional well-being and intellectual growth. This can include creating a welcoming atmosphere, offering resources for parents and caregivers, and providing activities encouraging intellectual curiosity and creativity. I would hire staff with expertise in working with gifted children. This can include physical therapists and other professionals, such as psychologists or educational specialists, who can provide additional support and guidance to children and families. I would partner with schools and other organizations to provide support to gifted children in the broader community. This can include offering educational resources or enrichment programs and training for teachers and other professionals who work with gifted children. Physical therapists can enhance gifted children's social-emotional health and intellectual development by treating sensory processing disorders, assisting with stress management, encouraging physical activity, providing emotional support, and advising parents and caregivers. By taking a comprehensive holistic approach to their care, I can enhance gifted children's physical and mental health.

The following are some approaches that can be taken to fight global warming. We have to make the switch to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal power if we want to cut down on the greenhouse gas emissions that come from burning fossil fuels. Energy-saving initiatives include: Using light bulbs that use LED technology. The insulation of homes and buildings. Upgrading equipment and vehicles to ones that use less energy. We have the ability to implement environmentally friendly land management strategies, such as curbing deforestation and rehabilitating land that has become degraded. We could reduce the amount of food that is wasted and increase the number of people who eat diets based on plants. In order to battle the effects of climate change, it is essential to encourage governments to enact carbon pricing, promote clean energy, and invest in climate adaptation measures. Contributing to conservation initiatives with the goal of preserving natural ecosystems and biodiversity is an essential component in the fight against climate change. Promoting the adoption of laws and regulations that cut greenhouse gas emissions, such as those that put a price on carbon, encourage the use of renewable energy, and mandate energy efficiency. A diet that is primarily composed of plant foods can help cut down on emissions of greenhouse gases and the overall carbon footprint of agriculture. Air travel is a major contributor to the emission of greenhouse gases; hence, reducing air travel or switching to modes of transportation that are more environmentally friendly in terms of fuel use can help reduce emissions. Reusable bags, bottles, and containers should be utilized in place of single-use plastic bags, bottles, and containers, and plastic should be recycled whenever feasible. We may also encourage and invest in the research and development of new technologies to cut emissions from existing industries, such as carbon capture and storage. I strive to make an effort to make a difference by lowering the amount of energy that I use, opting to take public transit, biking or walking instead of driving, using bags and water bottles that can be reused, and patronizing businesses that are cognizant of their impact on the environment. I will work to persuade individuals, corporations, and governments to work together to cut emissions of greenhouse gases and to transition to a more sustainable future in order to tackle climate change. It is vital to keep in mind that tackling climate change involves an approach that incorporates various strategies and that every one of us can help in our ways, no matter how big or small.

I intend to read numerous books and articles on personal finance and money management. Reading books such as "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki and "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey can increase my financial literacy. To learn about budgeting, investing, and financial planning, I can also enroll in financial literacy courses at a college or online. Reading websites such as Investopedia, NerdWallet, and The Balance can provide me with extensive knowledge on various financial topics. I advise others to contact a financial advisor for financial planning, investing, and retirement preparation. Remember that acquiring financial literacy is an ongoing process that necessitates continuous learning and self-reflection. Planning one's finances properly should always include purchasing insurance. One of my goals is to learn about various insurance, such as life, health, home, and auto insurance, and decide which insurance I need to protect myself and my assets from harm. Since taxes are a substantial expense for most people, I must understand how they operate and the most efficient ways to deal with them. I am lowering my tax burden by educating myself on tax deductions, tax credits, and tax-cutting measures. As I work toward improving my current financial status, setting financial objectives can assist me in remaining focused and motivated to make progress and putting together a list of short-term and long-term financial objectives, such as paying off debt, accumulating an emergency fund, and preparing for retirement. My financial goals can be more easily prioritized with a budget, which can also assist me in locating chances to save money and plan for costs. Given the significance of credit in my financial situation, it is essential to understand how credit operates to achieve financial literacy. A fundamental component of being financially literate is having a grasp of credit ratings, how to obtain credit, manage debt, and avoid making common financial mistakes. Keeping up-to-date on financial news and trends and being aware of changes in tax laws, interest rates, and other economic indicators can also help me to be financially literate. This can help me to make informed financial decisions and adjust my financial plan as needed. Financial literacy is the development of a comprehensive understanding of personal money and the application of this understanding to make prudent financial decisions. I will become more financially educated and develop a solid financial future by adopting a proactive attitude to my finances and continuously learning and changing.

Increasing racial diversity in healthcare guarantees that patients from diverse racial backgrounds are better represented and have access to care that is attentive to their individual cultural demands. Patients of various racial backgrounds are more likely to trust and feel at ease with healthcare professionals who share their cultural backgrounds. This can contribute to improved patient outcomes since patients who develop a positive relationship with their healthcare practitioner are more likely to stick to treatment recommendations and drug regimes. By boosting racial diversity in healthcare, we can establish a more inclusive and equitable system that serves patients of all races and ethnicities.

To leave a legacy is to pave the route for your descendants in the future. For instance, financial security is a fantastic means of perpetuating my legacy. I want my children to witness the sacrifices I'm making and the path I'm on to achieve financial independence. They will do the same for their children, perpetuating the cycle indefinitely. I use that phrase as motivation whenever I am faced with difficulty in my life. I want to use my college education to secure financial security for myself and my future children. I want to help athletes and continue to be involved in sports, so that's why I want to be a physical therapist. In high school, my physical therapist would inform me about the duties of the position, and ever since then, I've wanted to become one. I was the captain of my high school football team, and since my teammates elected me, it was an honor to lead my team as captain. In high school, I served as the Senior President of my graduating class. I served as president during the disastrous rise of Covid, but thanks to my strong leadership, the Seniors maintained their composure throughout their final year. I was also chosen to be a member of the Superintendent's high school's student advisory board by educators from all over the county. To help the students have a better high school experience, the student council developed proposals that the Superintendent could implement in the county. I was also chosen as "Lieutenant" for an organization called Hampton Gents. I'm the kind of leader who leads by example. Many of my collegiate teammates have expressed wanting to imitate what I'm doing. That gives me the confidence to carry on as I am since other people are observing and trying to replicate what I'm doing. At first, I was hesitant to take on a lot of leadership roles because I thought I would be overwhelmed. I`m glad I took on those challenges and found ways to be in leadership roles and handle my obligations on the football field and in the classroom. Time management is a big key to success. Without it, I would be confused and disorganized. I want to help athletes and continue to be involved in sports, so that's why I want to be a physical therapist. I want to help athletes and continue to be involved in sports, so that's why I want to be a physical therapist. In high school, my physical therapist would inform me about the duties of the position, and ever since then, I've wanted to become one. I also like to put smiles on other people's faces, I get joy from helping others. Additionally, physical therapists are paid highly. I'm a person who enjoys nice things, and I know that having a high-paying career will enable me to do so. I plan to use this scholarship to fund my bachelor's program education. Education is very important to me and I plan to put any funds I get toward my education. I want to earn my doctorate in physical therapy within the next ten years. Two weeks before I enrolled at Illinois College a tragic event happened to me and my family. My dad was in the passenger seat while I was driving for the first time after the accident. My dad was acting like I couldn`t drive telling me to put both hands on the wheel, but I felt his encouragement throughout the drive. In hindsight, my mom was right because I felt comfortable again driving. Without my family`s support, I wouldn`t be able to push through this triumph time.

The American Dream, millions come to this used-to-be colony every year to have it, and others—born here—still have not acquired it. What is this dream that only exists in the country with the fifty stars on its red and white flag? What is this dream that the land of opportunity holds so dear? The dream of being able to ascend past your birth, to be greater than the cards you were dealt, to be given a shot—a single shot that holds everything you could ask for if only fired. That is the American Dream. The idea that anyone—whoever they are—can leave their class and rise is an idea that has become a reality to few who have most running for a chance to have it. Work and opportunity are the two most important things in achieving the American dream, and it has been a reality since the end of the Civil War and the freeing of slaves, though things were not fully equal, once African Americans were given the chance of an American dream, they certainly were quick to make it tangible. The American Dream is one that is for all, no matter race, standing, or gender, and allows anyone to rise up from their economic and social class. I use that phrase as motivation whenever I am faced with difficulty in my life. I want to use my college education to secure financial security for myself and my future children. The dream to rise from poverty, the dream to rise through only hard work and dedication, and the dream to rise no matter wherever you came from. And even as America is approaching its 246th year of life, that dream still remains true.

That gives me the confidence to carry on as I am since other people are observing and trying to replicate what I'm doing

They had to start over in their education which was already intense in Nigeria but more strenuous in the United States. Their hunger and tenacity to strive for exceptional things have made me have the same tenacious effort. My mother has always taught me that growth and reaching heights you never thought possible are made possible through change. Their braveness has allowed me not to make any excuses. To keep a high GPA and strive to be great on the football field, I write down what I need to accomplish in a notebook. I look at that notebook throughout the day. I tried this idea last year, and it has brought great results. Another strategy I utilized was to leave my phone in my room whenever I was working on something I needed to finish for the day. For example, after football practice, I would spend 4-5 hours in the library and keep my phone in my dorm to focus on completing my tasks. If I weren't consistent, none of these strategies would be effective. Excellent time management abilities require consistency. Some days, I don't feel like using those strategies, but I have to remember that I want to be great in the classroom and on the field.

I embody selflessness with my siblings because I want them to succeed and outshine me. To embody selflessness, I have to have no ego and be compassionate. I take on a more leadership role with my siblings because I`m the oldest. Without compassion and the ability to listen, I wouldn`t be the big brother they would want to listen to. For example, when my little sister is troubled by something, she would ask my opinion on it. If I had never built a relationship with her, she would have never felt comfortable talking to me. I tend to see that they follow what I do, which makes me delighted because I want my siblings to follow what I do and expand on it. For example, one day, I cleaned the kitchen without anyone asking me, and my mother was amazed. Once my brother saw the smile on my mother’s face, he cleaned the kitchen the next day. My leadership allowed him to do the good deed because my brother has never cleaned the kitchen without being told to. Thus, being selfless enables me to be a role model for my siblings, who are watching me.

Well, I'm him. I don't care what anyone thinks and only care for what is right. I don't care how close we are or if you are my blood relative. If my friends or family do something wrong, I will address them on the spot. Friends and family may hate me for my stance at the moment, but they will thank me later because they self-reflected and saw their wrongs. For example, I had a friend named Peter who had many drinks at a party and wanted to drive home after the party. I took his keys because he was going to hurt himself or others on the road. Peter got infuriated and started throwing haymakers at me, and I returned the favor. The fight allowed him not to drive that night, and he thanked me the next day for not allowing him to drive. If it were about me, I would have let Peter drive because I didn't want the altercation, but since I was selfless, I didn't care what happened to me because I wanted to ensure my friend was safe.

The world's biggest problem right now is the world's biggest pandemic known to man: Covid. Political figures are essential for the progression of a country during a pandemic. Without a great leader during the pandemic, a nation would end up like the United States with plenty of deaths. People might say that the citizens oversee a successful or unsuccessful run in the pandemic. Citizens can be in control, but they must have someone to follow. In this case, with Nigeria and the United States with a presidential political system, the responsibility falls on the leader, not the political system itself. The actions of the presidents of the United States and Nigeria have displayed that most of the citizens in that countries will follow the president's views. Countries in the future can learn how to handle a pandemic from Nigeria and see what not to do regarding the United States' debacle of the pandemic. At the start of the pandemic, Donald Trump, the president of the United States, gave decision-making of the pandemic to the governors of all 50 states. The Nigerian President, President Buhari`s decisions did not confuse citizens, unlike President Trump with the United States. Leadership is significant during this time. President Buhari doesn`t have a great wrap as president, but he controlled the pandemic. Later in 2021, President Buhari took the vaccine live on television in Abuja, Nigeria, once the vaccine was released to the public. His eagerness to be at the forefront and take the vaccine encouraged his citizens to get the vaccine.

I tend to be quiet, but I've learned to speak up more frequently. To practice being bold, I must step outside of my comfort zone and experience discomfort. When I'm uncomfortable, I learn more about myself and have my back to a wall. For instance, when I know the people I'm engaging with, I'm social; however, if I don't know the person, I wouldn't engage in any conversation. Therefore, I applied for the Resident Assistant position at my college to improve my communication abilities and widen my horizons. Also, I was the president of my high school and was hesitant about being president because I didn't want to present a speech at the end of the year at graduation. I took the position because I wanted to take on the challenge and succeed. I've been put to the test physically, psychologically, and emotionally by doing things I've never done before.

I was born in Delta State and was raised in a Nigerian household on the Southside of Atlanta, Georgia. When I came to the United States, many of my classmates would be surprised that I lived a good life and had hard-working parents who supported me. My amazing parents are from the motherland of Delta State in Nigeria. Delta State is like New York, it is filled with a great deal of exposure but also a lot of unfortunate things happen too. My parents are examples of hard work and determination. My dad left his home in Nigeria to a deserted place in Germany to help his unfortunate family find a way. My mom on the other hand was very privileged and had a great support system to propel her to better things in life. Once my parents got married, they had to start afresh. They had to start over in their education which was already intense in Nigeria but more strenuous in the United States. Their hunger and tenacity to strive for exceptional things has made me have the same tenacious effort. The transition my parents made from Nigeria to the United States was good. They migrated to America in search of a better life. They adore their family back home but also need to keep evolving. My mother has always taught me that growth and reaching heights you never thought possible are made possible through change. Their braveness has allowed me not to make any excuses. My parents didn`t make excuses; they continued to work hard, and I`m grateful for that. Anytime I would bring back my report card, and there was a "B" on it, my parents would say, "You need to find out what that person with an "A" is doing. In Nigeria, we say "Naija No Day Carry Last" meaning that we will continue to strive to be the best in anything that we do. I use that phrase as motivation whenever I am faced with difficulty in my life.
    Hasanovic American Dream Scholarship
In Nigeria, we say "Naija No Day Carry Last," meaning that we will continue to strive to be the best in anything we do.

My favorite book is the "Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass," I like this book because I get to fully understand what Douglass did to help other African Americans escape slavery and support women's rights. Douglass not only advocated for the abolition of slavery, but he also aided the fight for women's rights. Schools in the 18th century were only for white men because it wasn't accepted for a woman to be educated. Throughout the 18th century, women and enslaved slaves faced similar obstacles, except that enslaved slaves were simply beaten for their transgressions. Douglass is an icon to many, and many statues across the United States remember the great works he did. The ability of slaves to read and write was also another escape route from slavery. In the “Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass,” Douglass had a mistress teaching him how to read until her husband stopped it (Douglass 20). Slaves were intended to know nothing because they would strive to flee if they were given even an inch of freedom. Slave masters did not want their slaves to have any power because knowledge is power. Douglass would interact with the slave master`s children and listen to the tips they would give on how to read. Since the children were young, they didn`t know anything about slavery and treated Douglass as an equal because he was human. The more he read, the more he felt liberated. Even though he was physically oppressed, he was emotionally free. He was also able to be physically free due to his thinking.

Fredrick Douglass was a pioneer for so many slaves escaping slavery. Although he is primarily seen as a hero to many and beat the odds, he started from the bottom. His name was originally Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey. Still, since it was his slave name, he changed it to Frederick Douglass once he escaped slavery so none of his slave masters would be able to recapture him. Douglass was a very determined and unphased man. He was going to express what he believed in no matter what he would endure. Even though he was a runaway, he had his name and picture of him everywhere. He wanted to switch the narrative about enslaved people. Enslaved people throughout the media were portrayed as being less human, and he changed that by wearing nice clothes in his pictures and having books in his pictures. The books in his picture were to exemplify that enslaved people can be educated if they are given a chance. Douglass not only advocated for the abolition of slavery, but he also aided the fight for women's rights. "Right is of no sex, truth is of no color," Douglas believed. Schools in the 18th century were only for white men because it wasn't accepted for a woman to be educated. Two weeks before I enrolled at Illinois College, a tragic event happened to my family and me. I was getting ready to make a left turn. As I'm in the turning lane, I see no cars going straight, and I see a plethora of cars in the yield lane just stopped. So, I decided to turn and "BOOM" a motorcycle hit me! I damaged my parent's 2012 Nissan Armada, and they missed a lot of time from work, and they never were upset with me. They were just happy I was okay. At this moment, I learned that material things don't matter in the big scheme of life. My parents continued to put in my head that "it was an accident." I appreciate my parents' continual unconditional love during this trying time. This is the first time; I’ve ever gone through a traumatic experience in my life. I`m surprised I could even write about it without shedding a tear. At first, I thought I would carry this phobia for years. However, the support from my family made the healing process very smooth. My family kept me optimistic throughout the whole situation; they kept spreading love and were happy that I was alive.

    Pratibha Pandey Merit-Based Scholarship
I'm a sophomore on the football field, but I'm a Junior academically. With my standing, I must create ways to succeed in both areas. In the fall of my freshman year, I was on the Dean's list, and in the spring, I obtained a GPA of 3.4.

As all this was happening at once, it hit me that life can change in a quick instant. At that moment, I was mad at myself for causing this pain to another human. At that point in time, I knew this would impact me forever. I didn`t feel like eating for days. The night after the accident, I was scared to go to sleep because I felt I was going to have horrific nightmares. I damaged my parent's 2012 Nissan Armada, causing them to miss a lot of time from work, but they were never upset with me. They were just happy I was okay. At that point, I realized that material things really don`t matter in the grand scheme of life. Now, almost a year later, I`m doing fine and I`m not feeling any physiological impact from the accident.
Amelia Boynton and S.W. Boynton Scholarship
Amelia Boynton Robinson and Samuel William Boynton were both civil rights pioneers. Amelia Boynton Robinson was active in women's suffrage and became one of the few African Americans who could register to vote. Black people rarely cast ballots; thus, Robinson used her ability to vote to assist other Black people who were seeking to register as voters. In 1964, Robinson became the first African American woman ever to seek a seat in Congress from Alabama, with only five percent of the votes being Black. Robinson was one of the civil rights activists who led the historic first march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma in 1965. As a result, that day came to be known as Bloody Sunday. Robinson was gassed and battered; a wire photo of her left for dead on Edmund Pettus Bridge circulated worldwide and contributed to the Civil Rights Movement's surge in popularity. Robinson was a strong woman who fought for Black equality in all facets of life. Her efforts were not in vain, and she deserves to be recognized as a legend for her accomplishments. While Amelia Boynton Robinson was fighting for the rights of Blacks, she met her husband Samuel William Boynton, who both continued to fight for the rights of Black people in every facet of life. Through thick and thin, Samuel William Boynton stood by his wife. Because he passed away in 1963, he could not witness the march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. Their experiences have motivated me to strive to be the best in my education. Despite the Robinsons` struggles, they persisted in standing up for themselves and fighting. We Black people now can vote, share a space with White Americans, and receive equal compensation for our work because of their sacrifice. The classes I'm currently taking are very challenging, but the Robinsons endured more challenges in their civil rights journey. If they accomplish that hurdle, I believe I can do anything I put my mind to. By conducting more research and sharing my results on social media, I may benefit the world by promoting voting rights, civil rights, and equality for all. Social media is a fantastic tool for spreading viable information. If I post useful material on social media platforms, others may notice it and spread the word to their friends. Once the information is disseminated, many people can use it to improve Black society. Friedrich Nietzsche once said, "All truths that are kept silent become poisonous."
