Hello My name is Christopher Richardson, I am 18 years old and I currently attend Mauldin High School. My accomplishment that I wanted to talk about is how I had straight A’s my junior year. All my years of school I was also that kid who wanted to have all A’s or A’s and B’s. I have no idea why I was like that when I was younger but now I try to achieve that because I want to better myself and push myself harder to be better for my future. Also to boost my GPA and also to just have good grades, so when I look at them in backpack I can be proud of myself. So during my junior year I had some hard classes and was always worried about my grades and what I would get on the test and quizzes. But after my first test in all my classes I got an A on them, which surprised me. So I looked at my grades in backpack and saw I had all A’s in my classes. Which gave me that good feeling and I told myself that I would keep all A’s my junior year. So we get to December of my junior year and we are about to go on winter break and when we come back we will start the second semester. I still had all A’s in my classes before we went on winter break. We come back from winter break and I start my new classes. Everything is going good, I have all A’s in my classes which made me proud of myself. We get through the third quarter and we are nearing the end of the fourth quarter, which is the end of second semester and end of the school year. I look back at my grades and see that I really kept all A’s my junior year. I was so proud of myself, which made me realize that I can do anything I put my mind to. It also made me have a realization and new understanding of myself, that anything I want to do or accomplish I can. I just have to dedicate myself and my time into it and put all my effort into it because if I don't then I would just be doing the bare minimum. For me the bare minimum isn’t enough, I always want to go above and beyond. So I would say my awkward thing is that I don’t have to study to make good grades and pass. Which I think is kind of unique, another awkward thing about me is that I love being outside and hate gaming. Which is the complete opposite of the other guys in my generation. In conclusion I won’’t let my awkward things about me stop me for pursuing my dream. Thank you for this possible future scholarship.

My name is Christopher Richardson, I am 17 years old and a senior at Mauldin High. Since I was a little boy I have always wanted to be a successful young black entrepreneur, I plan to do that by owning my own business. I was not sure what kind of business and or company I wanted to own when I was a kid. Now that I have gotten older I have realized that I want to start a technology business because technology is emerging everyday. My father was not always present in my life when I was younger, so my male role model was my great grandfather, whom I call Grandaddy. I always knew that my Grandaddy did some type of yard and or lawn care business. When I was 1 my Grandaddy asked when i got out of school and i told him, he told me to come stay with him during the summer, so I could work and learn with him and make some money. So I said okay, told my mom and after school got out the next week I was at his house. He taught me how to use a weed eater, hedge clippers, run a chainsaw, how to drive a zero-turn lawnmower, and also how to drive and operate a tractor with its attachments. So I was learning a lot and learning how to do things on my own. My grandaddy also taught me how to back in a 1500 Silverado with a trailer behind it with a lawnmower on it. Also how to back in a 3500 Silverado with a 22 foot trailer on it and a tractor on the trailer. So he taught me a lot and ever since then when I’m out of school or on the weekends I go down and help him and I am still learning things now. My grandaddy made a big impact on me and showed me that I can do anything I put my mind too. So the main reason I chose to major in business is because of my great grandfather, and also to fulfill the younger me’s dream of owning my own business. Now that I have gotten older I know that I can do whatever I put my mind too, my great grandfather helped me realize that. So I think that going to college and majoring in business and minoring in computer science will help me get a few steps closer to my dream. So after I graduate I plan to work under someone to be the hang of things, then going off and starting my own business. In conclusion this scholarship will also help me be able to go and afford college. Thank you for your time and for the opportunity.

Participating in speech and debate was one of the most formative experiences in preparing me to effectively share my Christian faith. These two activities, while seemingly distinct from religious outreach, provided essential tools for communicating ideas clearly, persuasively, and thoughtfully, which are all crucial when articulating the message of Christ. First, speech and debate taught me the importance of structure. Whether I was presenting an argumentative speech or preparing a case for a debate round, I had to organize my thoughts logically. Each argument had a clear introduction, body, and conclusion, with supporting evidence to back it up. This discipline in structuring my ideas has been invaluable when sharing my faith. When I speak about Christ, I have to present a coherent message, one that moves from the basic tenets of the faith—who Jesus is, why His sacrifice matters, and how one can respond in faith—into deeper theological discussions. Understanding how to break down complex ideas into digestible parts helps people grasp the beauty and truth of the Gospel. Another key lesson from speech and debate was learning to communicate with confidence and clarity. In competitive speaking events, I was forced to stand before judges and audiences, where I had to be assertive in delivering my ideas while maintaining respect for differing opinions. The same is true when discussing my faith. Conversations about Christianity often involve questions, doubts, and sometimes, skepticism. My training in speech and debate prepared me to remain calm, articulate, and confident in my beliefs, even in the face of opposition or misunderstanding. Instead of getting defensive or discouraged, I can engage in thoughtful, respectful dialogue, using reason and compassion to explain my perspective. Additionally, debate sharpened my listening skills, which has been crucial in sharing my faith. In debates, it was not enough to simply prepare a strong case; I had to listen attentively to my opponent’s arguments and respond thoughtfully. This practice of active listening translates directly into conversations about faith, where it’s essential to listen to the questions or concerns of others. Understanding where people are coming from allows me to respond in a way that addresses their doubts, fears, or misconceptions. It also helps me to tailor my message to their specific needs, creating a more meaningful and relevant dialogue. Finally, my experiences in speech and debate helped me develop resilience. Not every speech was perfect, and not every debate went my way. There were moments of failure, but I learned to handle criticism, adapt, and try again. Sharing my faith also involves moments of vulnerability and rejection, but my speech and debate experience taught me that failure is not the end—it’s an opportunity for growth. I’ve learned not to be discouraged by a difficult conversation or an unanswered question, but to continue to trust God’s timing and remain faithful in sharing His love. In sum, speech and debate equipped me with the skills of clarity, confidence, active listening, and resilience, all of which have been indispensable in sharing my Christian faith effectively. These tools have helped me communicate the Gospel with conviction, patience, and empathy, reaching others in a way that is both persuasive and compassionate.
