I used to feel timid labeling myself as an “artist” because I did not think that my skills were adequate. I eventually came to terms with the label though after realizing that wanting to improve and develop my skills is something that all artists strive for. Art is my form of expression and when I am putting that expression to work, I feel at peace. I have always enjoyed the process of creating through drawing, painting, illustrating, and digital design. Using my creativity in art allows me to paste my imagination onto a canvas. Although I am not at the level that I desire to be at yet, the end-product of what I produce gives me fulfillment and encourages me to continue my pursuit of artistic design. My portfolio consists of artwork using bold and vibrant colors which tell a story. Each of the illustrated stories highlight significant things in my life such as feeling different, celebrating who I am, self-expression, and self-acceptance. Through my personal journey, I have come to appreciate that I am similar to my art in that I am quirky, have a unique point of view, and like to see the bright side of the world through rich colors. I am excited and look forward to continuing my personal art journey while in college. A career in graphic design will signify overcoming my doubts as I pursue my dreams.
