Bio

I am a motivated and ambitious high school senior with a strong academic foundation and a passion for pursuing a major in Engineering, focusing on Computer Science. My journey has been shaped by a commitment to excellence, both inside and outside the classroom. With a 3.5 GPA, I’ve built a solid foundation in advanced coursework such as AP Computer Science, Honors Economics, and Physics, while also developing leadership skills through extracurricular activities. As a core leader of the Black Student Union, I collaborate with peers to promote cultural awareness and inclusivity, a mission I am deeply passionate about. Additionally, my role as a varsity track and field athlete has taught me perseverance, discipline, and the importance of teamwork. Outside of school, I coach Ninja Warrior gymnastics at Troy Gymnastics, where I design age-appropriate routines and foster a supportive environment for young students. Beyond athletics and leadership, I am actively engaged in community service through my volunteer work with Pinnacle Mobile Phlebotomy. Through this role, I’ve gained valuable experience in community outreach and developed a strong sense of responsibility and empathy. I’m excited about the future and looking forward to pursuing opportunities that allow me to combine my passion for technology, leadership, and service to make a positive impact.

Ashanti McCall Life & Legacy Scholarship
I am applying for this scholarship because I have shown resilience, dedication, and a deep commitment to personal growth, overcoming challenges that have shaped me into the person I am today. My father’s incarceration due to mental illness placed a unique weight on my childhood, leaving my mother to support us both emotionally and financially. Watching her navigate life as a single parent while building her business taught me the values of hard work, self-reliance, and perseverance. Her sacrifices have driven me to pursue my goals with determination, honoring her example every step of the way. Growing up with an incarcerated parent has influenced how I see the world and given me an understanding of hardship and the importance of compassion and empathy. This experience taught me not to judge others by their circumstances and instilled in me a strong drive to help others in any way I can. It’s also given me a passion for stability and structure, values I have brought with me into every environment, whether it’s school, extracurricular activities, or work. In high school, I embraced every opportunity for growth, despite sometimes feeling like one of the few who didn’t have a typical family structure. As one of the few black students in a predominantly white school, I committed myself to fostering connections, participating in activities, and representing diversity positively. My dedication to the school band, track and field, and the Black Student Union, along with my role as a coach at Troy Gymnastics, shows my commitment to both my community and personal growth. Discovering my passion for computer science has given me new purpose and direction. Through extracurriculars like The Robot Garage and AP courses, I have gained skills and a vision for a career in technology. I am particularly excited about using my skills to create an app that could help expand my mother’s business, turning it into a family enterprise that could provide for us in the long term. By supporting her business with technology, I hope to honor her sacrifices and create a sustainable legacy that my family can rely on for years to come. As a first-generation college student, I want to be an example of what can be achieved through persistence, education, and innovation. This scholarship would enable me to pursue my goals without the burden of financial strain, empowering me to focus fully on my studies, deepen my community involvement, and eventually give back to others who face similar challenges. Thank you for considering my application and for the opportunity to continue building a future founded on resilience, compassion, and hope.
