    Joe Ford Trade Scholarship
After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in welding. What first drew me to this trade was watching my older brother build a future for himself through hard work and skill. I saw the pride he took in his work and the respect that came with mastering a craft. For a long time though, I thought my path would be football. When my football career ended because of my blood condition, Factor V Leiden, I had to completely rethink my future. Losing the sport that had shaped me so much of my identity was difficult, but it forced me to find something new to dedicate myself to. That turning point led me to welding, and I quickly realized it was something I was naturally good at and genuinely enjoyed. Welding gave me back the sense of purpose that football once provided. It requires discipline, patience, and focus - qualities I developed as an athlete and now apply in the shop. During high school, I have worked on multiple welding and metal fabrication projects that demanded precision and careful planning. When measurements were slightly off or materials warped from heat, I had to problem-solve and adjust without compromising the integrity of the project. I've learned that one careless weld can weaken an entire structure, so attention to detail is everything. If something doesn't come out right the first time, I don't get frustrated - I evaluate what went wrong, correct my technique, and try again. That mindset has helped me steadily improve my skills. My plan after graduation is to attend ArcLabs Welding School and complete the program before December. I chose ArcLabs because of its hands-on training and strong reputation for preparing students for high-demand industries. I am committed to earning my certifications quickly and building a strong portfolio that reflects both quality and consistency. Once I graduate, my goal is to pursue welding opportunities with companies like Lockheed Martin or SpaceX. Aerospace welding requires extreme precision and accountability, and that level of excellence is exactly what I want to work toward. If you asked an adult in my life to describe me, they would say I am resilient and determined. When football was taken away, I did not let it define me. Instead, I redirected that same work ethic into a new career path. I show up on time, I accept feedback, and I take pride in improving every day. Welding is not a backup plan for me - it is my future, and I am fully committed to building it.
Tim Dunham Blood Disorder Awareness Scholarship

I have been personally impacted by a blood disorder called Factor V Leiden, which significantly changed the direction of my life. Before being diagnosed, football was a major part of who I was. I had played for several years, and it was not just a sport to me but a dream I hoped to continue pursuing. Being forced to quit football due to the risks associated with my blood disorder was extremely difficult. It was hard to accept that something I loved and had worked toward for so long had to be taken away because of a medical condition that I could not control. Quitting football affected me both mentally and emotionally. It meant losing a routine, a sense of identity, and a future I had imagined for myself. For a long time, football taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, and stepping away left me feeling unsure about what direction to take next. However, that challenge also pushed me to grow. I had to learn how to adapt, stay motivated, and find a new path that would allow me to succeed while still protecting my health. Eventually, this led me to pursue welding as a career, giving me a new goal and a renewed sense of purpose. Although Factor V Leiden closed one door in my life, it opened another. Choosing welding allowed me to focus on a skilled trade that is hands-on, stable, and rewarding. The work ethic and determination I developed through football continue to guide me in this new path. While my dream changed, my drive to succeed did not. In many ways, overcoming this setback has made me more resilient and focused on building a future that I can be proud of. I hope to spread awareness about blood disorders like Factor V Leiden by sharing my story and educating others about the seriousness of these conditions. Many people do not realize that blood disorders can affect young, active individuals, not just older adults. By speaking openly about my experience, I want to help others understand that these conditions can have real-life impacts on dreams, careers, and everyday choices. Awareness can also encourage people to take symptoms seriously, seek medical advice, and make informed decisions about their health. Additionally, I hope to spread awareness by supporting conversations around health and safety in sports. Athletes should feel comfortable reporting symptoms and asking questions without fear of judgment. Understanding blood disorders can help coaches, teammates, and families create safer environments for athletes. Even though my diagnosis forced me to give up football, it also taught me the importance of putting long-term health first. Ultimately, being impacted by Factor V Leiden has shaped who I am today. While it changed my path, it also taught me resilience, adaptability, and perspective. By sharing my experience and raising awareness, I hope to help others better understand blood disorders and encourage them to prioritize their health while still finding meaningful ways to succeed.
    Russell Koci Skilled Trade Scholarship
The skilled trade I am planning to study and pursue as a career is welding. I chose welding because it is a hands-on trade that creates real, visible results, and it is a skill that will always be in demand. My interest in welding originally came from my brother, who is also in the trade. Watching him work and seeing the projects he completed made welding seem interesting and rewarding. For example, he welded a pig trap and built a new bumper for his old truck. Seeing him take raw metal and turn it into something strong and useful made me think welding was cool and something I could see myself doing. Over time, that interest grew into a career path I wanted to pursue. I decided to fully commit to welding after an important change in my life. During my sophomore year of high school, I had to quit playing football after four years due to a blood condition called Factor V Leiden. Football had been a major part of my life, and stepping away from it was difficult both physically and mentally. However, that experience forced me to think more seriously about my future and find a path that fit my abilities and health while still challenging me. Welding gave me a new direction and a sense of purpose similar to the discipline and focus I learned through sports. I plan to build a career in welding because it provides stability, strong earning potential, and oportunities for growth. Welders are needed in many industries, including construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, and infrastructure, which means there are many paths to specialize and advance. I like that welding rewards skill, precision, and hard work rather than just sitting behind a desk. It is a trade where effort matters and improvement comes with experience and dedication. I believe I will be successful in welding because I am hardworking and have a strong work ethic. These qualities were developed through years of playing football, where discipline, teamwork, and persistence were required. Even after being forced to quit football, I carried those lessons with me. Welding requires patience, attention to detail, and consistency, all of which I bring to the trade. I am motivated to learn, improve my skills, and take pride in doing quality work. To me, a successful life means being able to provide for my family and help the people who supported me along the way. Success is not just about money, but about stability, responsibility, and being dependable. By pursuing welding, I am working toward a career that allows me to support a family, help my own family when they need it, and take pride in what I accomplish. With determination, hard work, and the lessons I have learned through both challenges and setbacks, I believe I will build a successful career and a meaningful life.

The trade I am pursuing is welding, and I am passionate about it because it allows me to build real, lasting things while using both skill and precision. My interest in welding began in middle school when I watched my brother work on different projects, including building a pig trap and a custom bumper for his truck. Seeing raw metal turn into something useful caught my attention right away. As I grew older and started learning to weld myself, I realized how much I enjoyed working with my hands and how satisfying it was to see a finished product I created. Earning my first welding certificates made me realize that this was not just a hobby, but something I was genuinely good at and could turn into a career I am proud of. After completing my trade education, my goal is to work as a professional welder for a major company such as SpaceX or Lockheed Martin. I am especially interested in aerospace and defense welding because of the high level of precision and responsibility involved. Being part of projects that advance technology, transportation, or national defense would be extremely meaningful to me. I want a career where my work matters, where quality and safety are critical, and where I can continue learning and improving my skills. Welding offers strong job stability, good pay, and the opportunity to work on projects that have a real impact on the world. One of the biggest adversities I have faced in my life happened during my sophomore year of high school. I had been playing football for four years and truly believed it would be my future. Football taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, and it was a huge part of who I was. However, I was diagnosed with a blood condition called Factor V Leiden, which made it unsafe for me to continue playing. Being forced to quit was extremely difficult and disappointing. It felt like my entire plan for the future had been taken away. Instead of letting that setback define me, I chose to adapt and refocus my energy. I put more time into welding and quickly realized how much I enjoyed it and how naturally it came to me. Welding gave me a new sense of purpose and direction. Overcoming that adversity taught me that sometimes life forces you to change paths, but that does not mean your future is ruined. It simply means you have to find a new way forward. Quitting football was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it led me to discover a career that fits me better and gives me a strong future. That experience taught me resilience, determination, and the importance of pushing forward even when plans change.
Lynn Welding Next Generation in Welding Scholarship
What has guided me toward choosing a career path in welding is my brother. He was really into welding and inspired me to try it out myself. Watching him build things made me realize how useful and creative welding can be, and it really sparked my interest. Another big reason I decided on welding is that it pays well, and trades jobs are in high demand. I've actually been interested in welding since 8th grade, when my brother built a pig trap and a custom bumper for his truck. Back then, I was really focused on football and thought that might be my future. But then I found out I have a blood condition called Factor V Leiden, and I had to quit playing. That was really disappointing at first, but it also gave me time to explore other things I enjoyed, and that's when I realized how much I liked welding. I got more serious about it after earning my first two certificates. That's when I realized not only do I enjoy welding, but I'm actually good at it too. I started seeing that I could build a career out of something I genuinely love and am skilled at. It feels really satisfying to create something with my own hands and see the finished product. Every product I finish makes me want to improve and push myself further. I also think welding is super important in today's world. Welders help build strong buildings, bridges, and other structures that need to stay together and stay safe. I really believe welding is a job that robots or AI can't fully replace, which makes it even more valuable. Skilled welders are necessary for construction and industry, and the work we do literally helps keep people safe. I want to be part of that, to help build and maintain structures that last, even through storms or disasters. Welding is a career that lets me combine creativity, skill, and hard work, and I feel confident that it will remain an important part of society. It's something I love, I'm good at, and it can give me a stable future. I'm excited to keep learning new techniques, take on bigger projects, and maybe even teach others someday. Being a welder isn't just a job; it's a way to leave a mark on the world and create things that truly matter. That idea motivates me every day and makes me proud to choose this path.
