Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
As I go in to my senior of high school and am preparing to start my application process for colleges, I ask myself want I want to go for, through my high school career I done multiple internships to help make this decision and the first thing that came to mind was engineering, as a child I always like to build and break things down, and after learning the were a workforce dedicated to that it instantly peaked my interest, after using CAD for the first time in one of my internships I was hooked. After doing research and speaking with alumni the university of Cincinnati stood out a great option to help complete my goals of getting my engineering degree, graduating debt free, and already having a job/job offers right out of college. UC has a well known co-op program That helps land a large amount of engineering graduates a position in reputable companies all over. The next step of reaching my goals is proper planning to achieve all of them, getting my degree and a job both will come from my schooling, but the debt free goal would be hardest, since I have the sole responsibility of paying for my college, I know I want to live on campus to maximize my networking and involvement within the community. I also know for engineering majors well preforming laptops/tablets are almost needed, which just becomes another $1k+ expense. FASFA opens October 1st and I already making sure I have everything needed to apply as soon as possible to maximize the amount I can get for my education from the federal funding, but it is still likely with consistent trend of tuition rising that I would still need to do more. I do realize I have the advantage of being able to work this year to help prepare for the leftover cost, I currently work for an engineering company as a CNC machinist high school Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship apprentice, bringing decent pay to help toward tuition and my biggest goal. I am unsure of how much time I would be able to work during the school year but I will be as often as I can. To fully complete this goal I will need scholarships throughout my 4 years. After doing some numbers the estimated tuition per year is around $29,000, not including books or possible electronics needed to ease the workload. I do have money saved from previous internships and working but no where near that amount currently, for the whole 4 years: $116,000+, quite a hefty number but I know I can complete this goal and I will especially with the help of the scholarship too possibly. I believe with Plan to apply to 3-5 scholarship weekly, alongside federal aid and working when I can this my biggest goal will be achieved and my other two goals in the process as well, I am excited for this journey no matter what , if it’s at the University of Cincinnati or elsewhere my goals will stay the same and will be completed, with my family motivating me through it all and me sticking to my faith I know I can and will do it and smash my goals.
