A single mother raised me. Not only is she a single mother, but she is an African American woman who gave birth to me at 15 years of age. Many people did not have faith that she could raise me well all on her own and doubted that I would get to high school, let alone college. I am glad to say that their doubts could not have been more wrong. I was an honor roll student for most of my academic career. I am currently a member of the honors college at my university; I am caring, respectful, intelligent, and I do not give up. She successfully guided me to this point, and now I am building my future.  I became interested in a degree in STEM because of the opportunities my mother had prepared for me to take. She pushed me to do my best in school, which allowed me to get accepted into the Science and Technology program at Charles Herbert Flowers High School. The previously mentioned program had given me a glimpse into the STEM world. In our sophomore year of high school, we decided which part of STEM we wanted to focus on. The choices were biology, computer science, and engineering. I chose the engineering path because I was not interested in biology or computer science. As I learned more about the subject, I realized the career path I wanted to take. I want a career in civil engineering. Throughout this journey, I hope to accomplish some of my greatest aspirations. I have a step-by-step plan that I firmly believe will get me there. First, I am currently attending Morgan State University and am in the civil engineering program. It is the best program in my state, and I feel most at home there, so I decided to attend this school. I plan on graduating with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. The second step happens mid-education. Next semester, I will be obtaining an internship that will cater to my needs as a civil engineering student and a future CEO. While at the said internship, I will be dedicated, motivated, attentive, and ready to learn. By the end of the training, they will see my potential and offer me a job. I will work with the company until I feel stable enough to go my route. Once I establish my own business, I will network, invest and put my all into it until I reach my goal. This plan is what I hope to accomplish.
