    Deborah Thomas Scholarship Award
Because of her pregnancy, my mom was dismissed from her job before I was born. Her sacrifice sparked my desire to evoke change for these women. My upbringing consisted of exemplifying respect for everyone, but especially toward expectant mothers & the elderly. I intend to take a stand against the injustices women face in the workforce, regarding being “let go”, due to old-fashioned sexist/ageist principles. Similarly, I intentionally incorporate aspects of diversity & inclusion into my extracurriculars. For example, as an active volunteer with the American Red Cross, my duty as the Volunteer Recognition & Appreciation Lead requires me to ensure all volunteers feel seen within the organization. I started the “E-Card Project” to highlight this mission. I keep track of volunteer birthdays & Red Cross Anniversaries, & notify their supervisors to send E-Cards (which I design) to each of them directly. This boosts morale within the organization, & strengthens the team’s relationship. Additionally, I exemplify inclusion in my workplace by taking on more responsibility & training new employees. My devotion to helping people prompts me to cover my coworkers’ shifts whenever I can. I fully commit to my job, & aim to perform beyond what’s expected. For example, I’m always the first to train new employees, & I understand the importance of the company’s first impression. Routinely, I provide a tour, coworker introductions, & encouraging instructions for nightly tasks. In fact, my actions eventually got me promoted to Front Of House Supervisor. As an aspiring Certified Fraud Examiner, I require an Accounting background & experience to make a splash in the industry pool. During university, I plan to personalize an ambitious, academic path for myself. This involves taking courses to enhance my general Accounting/Business knowledge, & exploratory electives to familiarize myself with corporate fraud. My ultimate goal is to eliminate my financial stress to optimize my professional success in comprehension & organization. By participating in undergraduate research opportunities, I hope to explore topics regarding Women’s Equality & Federal Regulations Defending Against All Discrimination Types. My goals are to advocate for professionally displaced mothers/elderly women, ensure companies obey anti-discriminatory laws, & develop ethical solutions with business owners to prevent further offenses. Furthermore, I plan to incorporate public service and female empowerment into my extracurriculars. I’m particularly interested in clubs supporting Women in Business. I’d happily take advantage of a group whose vision is to uplift businesswomen & provide platforms for unheard voices to share their stories. Likewise, I’m certain that surrounding myself with like-minded ladies as we exchange knowledge, resources, & motivations will beckon forth new opportunities to grow & gain wisdom. The Deborah Thomas Scholarship will support my goal of becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner, & my mission to resolve small-business discriminatory practices. With its help, I can focus my efforts on changing the fates of these expecting/elderly women, as it alleviates some of my financial burden.
A Man Helping Women Helping Women Scholarship
My mom sacrificing her career to start a family out of high school sparked my desire to evoke change for these women. My upbringing consisted of exemplifying respect for everyone, but especially toward expectant mothers & the elderly. I have interests that lie in studying Business, the embodiment of each of my extracurriculars. For example, my volunteering through the American Red Cross involves clerical work, my current courses target Accounting, & I’ve taken on various paid roles throughout high school. These activities ultimately got me into my dream college, The University of Pennsylvania, where I plan to fulfill my passions. Aligning with my mission, I intend to take a stand against the injustices this female demographic faces in the workforce, regarding being “let go”, due to old-fashioned sexist/ageist principles. This form of discrimination has been outlawed for decades, yet its presence in business remains. However, I refuse to accept this normalized abandonment, which is why my career goal is to directly combat this issue. By combining my women’s rights activism with my interests in crime & the economy, my dream is to become a Certified Fraud Examiner in a management setting. Therefore, this scholarship will directly fund my college education, allowing me to focus completely on studying. As an aspiring CFE, I require an Accounting background & experience to make a splash in the industry pool. Likewise, I’m certain that surrounding myself with like-minded ladies as we exchange knowledge, resources, & motivations will beckon forth new opportunities to grow & gain wisdom. Furthermore, I’d network with today’s local/global female leaders, inviting them to foster the next generation of leaders by advising young women. I'm certain this scholarship will support my goal of becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner, & my mission to resolve small-business discriminatory practices. My vision continues until every expectant mother & elderly woman is guaranteed to maintain their workforce positions, & remain in good standing within the company.
