Hi there! I’m Christopher – a passionate individual with a unique blend of interests and skills. I’ve got a certificate in IT Specialist and am eager to start my career in accounting. I’m always looking for ways to combine my love for technology and financial management, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead. In my downtime, I enjoy building and collecting Spider-Man Lego sets. It’s a creative outlet that keeps me inspired, and I love the challenge of designing intricate models and finding new ways to put together the pieces. When I’m not working with tech or balancing financial spreadsheets, you’ll probably find me playing soccer. I believe in the power of teamwork and strategy both on the field and in life. Soccer has taught me valuable lessons in discipline and collaboration, which I carry with me in everything I do. I'm excited about the future and eager to make a positive impact in whatever career path I pursue. Let’s connect and share ideas, whether it’s about tech, accounting, soccer, or Lego creations!

My interest in public service stems from a deep desire to create equal opportunities for all children, especially in youth sports. I am currently focused on improving access to soccer for children from low-income families. In many communities, financial barriers such as high registration fees, equipment costs, and travel expenses prevent kids from playing. This means many children miss out on the valuable lessons and experiences that come from participating in sports. Soccer has played a significant role in my life. It gave me structure, helped me through tough times, and taught me essential life skills, such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. I believe every child should have the chance to benefit from the game the way I did. That belief is what drives me to take action in my community. I organize free soccer games and training sessions for kids in underserved areas. These events are open to all children and focus on fun, learning, and teamwork. My goal is to make soccer a welcoming space where every child can feel included and supported. In addition to running these events, I raise money to buy equipment for kids who need it. I have hosted fundraisers, asked local businesses for donations, and partnered with organizations that share my mission. With this support, I provide new or gently used gear to kids who otherwise could not afford it. What motivates me most is seeing how soccer can change lives. For many kids, it is more than just a game. It is a safe space where they can build confidence, stay active, and develop essential life skills. It also keeps them focused and out of harmful situations. I want to give kids the chance to grow, both as players and as individuals, through something as simple and powerful as a soccer ball. Public service means using your time and energy to make a positive impact. I am pursuing this path because I want to help others and make a lasting impact. My work with youth soccer is just the beginning. I plan to continue serving my community and helping young people access the opportunities they deserve. In the end, I believe every child should have the opportunity to play, learn, and grow through sports, regardless of their background. Soccer has given me so much, and I want to share that with others. Through this work, I hope to make a lasting difference in the lives of children who need a chance to shine.

I am pursuing a degree in Accounting at Texas Tech University, to become the first in my family to graduate. This journey is not just about earning a degree; it’s about opening doors to opportunities that will allow me to make a meaningful impact in my community. I have always been passionate about learning, challenging myself, and striving for excellence. My interest in numbers and problem-solving led me to accounting, which offers stability, growth, and the ability to help businesses and individuals achieve financial success. Growing up in a low-income neighborhood, I experienced firsthand the challenges many families face, from financial struggles to limited access to safe recreational spaces. However, one thing that always stood out to me was the importance of parks and community programs. These spaces provided a safe environment where kids like me could play, build friendships, and stay active through recreational sports. Access to these resources kept many of us away from negative influences and gave us something to look forward to. Because of this, I am passionate about giving back and hope to be part of projects that focus on building and maintaining parks in underserved neighborhoods. Investing in these spaces is not just about creating playgrounds; it’s about giving kids an outlet to stay engaged, develop teamwork skills, and build community. At Texas Tech, I am focused on gaining the knowledge and experience needed to succeed in accounting while also developing leadership skills that will allow me to make a difference beyond the classroom. I believe education is a powerful tool for change. I want to use mine to help others, whether supporting small businesses, working with nonprofit organizations, or using my financial expertise to help improve community programs. Beyond my academic and career goals, I am dedicated to personal growth and lifelong learning. I enjoy pushing my limits, whether that’s through taking on new challenges, expanding my skill set, or meeting people who inspire me to think differently. True success is not just about individual achievements but about how we use our knowledge and resources to uplift those around us. In the future, I see myself as an accounting professional and a community advocate. I want to use my career to create financial stability for myself and my family while contributing to initiatives that provide children opportunities to thrive. My ultimate goal is to ensure that kids growing up in neighborhoods like mine can access the same positive influences and safe spaces that helped shape me. By combining my education, passion for service, and commitment to continuous growth, I hope to make a lasting impact both in my professional field and the communities that need it most.
    First-Gen Futures Scholarship
I have chosen to pursue higher education because I see it as the key to a better future—not just for myself but for my family. As a first-generation college student, earning a degree is more than just a personal accomplishment; it is a way to honor my parents' sacrifices and break barriers for future generations. My parents, especially my father, came to this country with nothing but determination, and despite not having the opportunity to attend high school or college, they worked hard to provide a better life for me. Their sacrifices inspire me to make the most of every opportunity, and higher education is one of the most critical paths. One of the main reasons I chose to pursue college is the financial stability and career opportunities it will provide. I have seen firsthand how difficult it is to make a living through physically demanding jobs like construction or automotive work. Working alongside my dad and grandpa, I experienced the long hours and tough conditions that come with labor-intensive jobs, and I realized that I wanted a different path. A college degree will allow me to pursue a career where I can use my skills and knowledge in a way that challenges and fulfills me while also providing long-term financial security. Beyond financial stability, higher education is iessentialto to me because it will allow me to grow. College is not just about gaining knowledge—it is about developing critical thinking skills, improving communication, and learning how to navigate the world confidently. Education gives me a voice, helps me be well-versed in different subjects, and earns me respect in professional and social settings. These invaluable skills will help me succeed in my career and in all aspects of life. As a first-generation student, preparing for college has been a unique journey. Without family members who have gone through the process before me, I have had to navigate everything independently—from applying to schools and securing financial aid to balancing school and personal responsibilities. However, I have embraced these challenges by seeking resources, asking for help, and staying determined to succeed. To prepare myself for college, I have developed strong study habits, time management skills, and a mindset of perseverance. I have also taken on responsibilities that have taught me discipline and independence, whether through work, helping my family, or managing my education. Additionally, I have sought guidance from mentors, teachers, and advisors who have helped me understand what to expect in college and how to make the most of my experience. Being a first-generation student means carrying a lot of responsibility, but it also fills me with pride. I am paving the way for future generations in my family, proving that higher education is possible no matter where you come from. My journey is not just about earning a degree but about setting an example, breaking cycles, and creating opportunities my parents never had. Ultimately, pursuing higher education is my way of building a better future, honoring my family's choices, and proving that with determination, anything is possible. I am ready to take on the challenges of college, knowing that every step I take is one closer to achieving my goals and making my parents and myself proud.
    Augustus L. Harper Scholarship
Education is one of the most powerful tools a person can have. It has brought immense value to my life, shaping me into a more confident, knowledgeable, and well-rounded individual. Beyond just gaining skills and knowledge, education has given me a voice—it has allowed me to feel seen and heard, primarily through my diction and communication. The ability to express myself clearly and effectively has improved how I interact with others and earned me respect in different spaces. Growing up, I always admired people who spoke confidently and could articulate their thoughts in a way that commanded attention and respect. Through education, I have developed that ability myself. I have learned to communicate more effectively, to be well-versed in various topics, and to engage in meaningful conversations. Being able to express myself with clarity has opened doors for me, giving me a sense of empowerment I may not have had otherwise. Beyond personal growth, education is essential because it provides opportunities for a better future. It is the key to financial security, stability, and independence. By earning my degree, I will have access to career opportunities that will allow me to support myself and my family. Unlike jobs that rely solely on physical labor, education allows me to use my mind as my greatest asset. This means I can work in an environment that challenges and fulfills me while providing long-term financial stability. Education has also helped me grow as a person. It has taught me discipline, patience, and perseverance. Whether studying for exams, completing assignments, or learning new concepts, every challenge has contributed to my personal development. It has taught me how to think critically, solve problems, and adapt to different situations—skills that will benefit me not only in my career but also in life. Another reason education is so important to me is that it allows me to break barriers. As a first-generation college student, earning my degree is more than just a personal achievement—it is a way to set an example for future generations. It shows that it is possible to overcome obstacles and create a better future with hard work and determination. My education is not just for me; it is for my family, those who came before me, and those who will come after me. In the long run, education will provide me with the financial security I need to build the life I envision for myself. It will give me the freedom to choose a career I enjoy, to own a home, and to provide for my future family. More importantly, it will allow me to look back with pride, knowing that I took control of my future and made the most of the opportunities in front of me. Ultimately, education is valuable because it is life-changing. It gives me a voice, confidence, and the ability to shape my future. It has already helped me grow in ways I never imagined, and I know it will continue to open doors for me. Through education, I am not just learning but building a foundation for success, respect, and a better life.
José Ventura and Margarita Melendez Mexican-American Scholarship Fund
Being a first-generation Mexican-American college graduate is more than just a personal achievement—it is a way for me to honor my parents, especially my father, who came to this country with nothing but his willpower and determination. He never had the opportunity to attend high school, let alone college, but he never let that stop him from working hard and creating a better life for our family. His journey has been my biggest inspiration, and I am passionate about earning my degree for myself and for him. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand my father's sacrifices to provide for us. Working in construction or fixing cars alongside my grandpa and dad showed me the physical and mental struggles of labor-intensive jobs. I saw how many hours they spent outside in the heat, cold, and rain, yet the pay never seemed to match their effort. Seeing their exhaustion at the end of the day made me realize that I wanted a different path—not because I look down on hard labor, but because I want to give my family a better life and honor their sacrifices by taking full advantage of the opportunities they never had. My passion for being a first-generation college graduate also comes from a desire to break barriers and inspire others. I want to prove that no matter where you come from, your background, or your challenges, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. As a Mexican-American, I know that many people from similar backgrounds may feel limited by financial struggles, lack of resources, or the pressure of being the first in their family to navigate higher education. I want to show them that it is possible and that with determination and perseverance, they, too, can reach their goals. Education is more than just a degree to me—it represents freedom, opportunity, and change. It is a way to create a better future for myself, my family, and future generations. By earning my degree, I will be able to provide my loved ones with stability, financial security, and opportunities that my parents never had. More importantly, I want my success to be a reflection of their sacrifices, to show them that everything they worked for was worth it. Being a first-generation college student is not always easy. There are challenges, from navigating the education system to balancing responsibilities. But every struggle is a reminder of why I started this journey in the first place. Every class I take, every test I pass, and every step closer to graduation is not just for me—it's for my parents, my family, and every person who has ever felt that their background might hold them back. At the end of the day, my goal is to look back with pride, knowing that I turned my parents' sacrifices into something meaningful. I want to make them proud, to give back to them, and to prove that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. My journey as a first-generation Mexican-American college graduate is not just about earning a degree—it is about honoring my roots, breaking barriers, and inspiring others to chase their dreams no matter where they come from.

Growing up in a Hispanic household has profoundly shaped how I see the world. My family’s culture, traditions, and values have taught me the importance of perseverance, unity, and resilience. With both of my parents being Hispanic and my father coming to this country with nothing but his willpower, I have learned that success comes to those who work for it. His journey has been a constant reminder that no matter what obstacles stand in my way, I can achieve anything if I put in the effort and never give up. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned from my family is the power of hard work. My father’s story, coming here with nothing and building a life from the ground up, proves that determination and perseverance pay off. In our culture, we don’t back down when things get tough—we push through. I have carried that mindset throughout my life, whether in school, personal challenges, or my future career. No matter what anyone says, I believe that if I work hard for something, I will achieve it. Beyond hard work, my Hispanic upbringing has also taught me the importance of family. In our culture, family is everything. No matter what happens, I know that I will always have my family’s support. Whether I succeed or face setbacks, they will be there to lift me up and encourage me to keep going. That unconditional love and support give me the confidence to chase my dreams, knowing that I am never alone in my journey. Growing up in a Hispanic household also means there is never a dull moment. My family loves to come together, whether to celebrate birthdays or holidays or to enjoy each other’s company. We throw parties filled with music, dancing, and fantastic food. These gatherings are more than just celebrations—they are a way for us to stay connected and remind each other that family always comes first, no matter how busy life gets. Even in the simplest moments, like cooking together or sharing stories, a sense of warmth and belonging makes our culture so unique. This strong sense of family and community has shaped the way I see the world. It has taught me to be compassionate, to value relationships, and always to uplift those around me. It has shown me that success is not just about personal achievements but about bringing others along with you, supporting your loved ones, and giving back to those who have helped you along the way. Ultimately, my Hispanic background has instilled in me the values of resilience, hard work, and the importance of family. It has given me the confidence to pursue my goals, knowing that with dedication and the support of my loved ones, I can overcome any challenge. No matter where life takes me, I will always carry these lessons with me, staying true to my roots and the values that have made me who I am today.

    NYT Connections Fan Scholarship
This Connections puzzle takes a 4x4 grid of sixteen words and organizes them into four groups of four, each belonging to a specific category. Below, I’ll break down the groupings, name each category, and explain the reasoning behind the connections. The Puzzle Grid: Row 1: Deliver, Touch, Super, Taste Row 2: Obsessed, Iron, Logical, Pack Row 3: Ship, Lacy, Bat, Vampire Row 4: Hear, Pack, Spider, Smell Grouping and Categories: Group 1: Superheroes That end in ___Man Spider Iron Super Bat These four words belong to the category of superheroes that end in Man. The reasoning is simple: "Spider" refers to Spider-Man, "Iron" to Iron Man, "Super" to Superman, and "Bat" to Batman. Each is the name of a popular superhero, and they all have the word "Man" or are part of a superhero franchise that ends with the suffix "Man" (Spider-Man, Iron Man, Superman, and Batman). This connection makes them easily recognizable as superheroes from comic books, films, and television shows. Group 2: Olivia Rodrigo's 'Guts' Album Songs Obsessed Lacy Logical Vampire These words are titles of songs from Olivia Rodrigo's album "Guts." "Obsessed," "Lacy," "Logical," and "Vampire" all feature as tracks from the album, making them part of the same music collection. Each of these songs explores themes of personal struggles, identity, and emotional conflict, and they showcase Olivia’s raw vulnerability as an artist. By recognizing these as parts of her album, fans and listeners can immediately connect them to her musical style and lyrical themes. Group 3: The Five Senses Hear Touch Taste Smell This group is made up of words that correspond to the five senses. The connection here is straightforward: each word represents one of the five sensory experiences that contribute to our understanding of our environment. Group 4: Shipping and Package Actions Ship Pack Deliver Label This group pertains to actions associated with shipping packages. These are all key actions involved in the logistics and process of handling and sending packages, often used by businesses or individuals engaged in mail services. Conclusion: The categories and their groupings in this Connections puzzle are straightforward once you understand the relationships between the words. Whether it’s recognizing superheroes, identifying Olivia Rodrigo songs, remembering the five senses, or understanding actions related to shipping packages, each group makes logical sense. The puzzle helps sharpen one’s ability to categorize and recognize themes, which is a fun and engaging way to exercise the mind.
    Team USA Fan Scholarship
My favorite athlete to cheer for on Team USA is Stephen Curry. As a fan of the Golden State Warriors, I’ve had the privilege of watching Curry transform the game of basketball in ways few could have predicted. He’s not only an incredible player but also an inspiring figure for anyone who has ever been doubted or overlooked. Curry's impact on the game, his work ethic, and his underdog story are the reasons why he’s my favorite athlete to cheer for. One of the biggest reasons I love watching Curry is his revolutionary approach to the game. He has completely changed the way basketball is played, especially with his three-point shooting. Curry has redefined the three-point line, making it a weapon that teams now base their entire offenses around. His shooting range is nearly unlimited, and his ability to make deep, off-the-dribble threes has forced the NBA to evolve. But it’s not just his shooting; it’s his movement on the court that makes him so difficult to guard. Curry is always on the move, constantly running around screens, creating space, and opening up opportunities for both himself and his teammates. Watching him play is like watching a basketball wizard—he’s always creating something out of nothing, and that’s what makes him so exciting to watch. What truly makes Curry special, however, is his journey to success. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, Curry is considered short for an NBA player, especially in a sport where players are often much taller and more athletic. Coming out of high school, he wasn’t highly recruited by major colleges, and he played at a mid-major school, Davidson, for college basketball. Despite his height and the doubts that were placed on him, Curry didn’t let that stop him. He worked tirelessly on his game, honing his skills, and proving everyone wrong. His story is one of perseverance and determination, and he’s a perfect example of how hard work can help you overcome obstacles. As a fan of Curry, I also admire the leadership and positivity he brings to his teams. He’s not just a great player; he’s also a great teammate, always encouraging his fellow players and leading by example. Whether it’s on the Warriors or Team USA, Curry's ability to inspire others and keep a positive mindset is something I deeply respect. Curry’s journey serves as an inspiration to me and countless others. He shows that no matter where you start, or how many people doubt you, with hard work, dedication, and a belief in yourself, you can achieve greatness. As a fan of both the Warriors and Team USA, I cheer for Stephen Curry not only because of his incredible skills on the basketball court but also because of the person he is off the court. He is a true role model and a player who has left a lasting impact on the game of basketball. The greatest point guard of all time.
    LeBron James Fan Scholarship
LeBron James is, in my opinion, the greatest basketball player of all time. While there have been many legendary players in the history of the NBA, LeBron stands out for several reasons. His consistent excellence, adaptability, leadership, and commitment to giving back to his community all contribute to his status as one of the greatest to ever play the game. One of the main reasons I consider LeBron to be the greatest is his incredible longevity and consistency. He has been able to perform at an elite level for nearly two decades, maintaining his physical condition and skill set even as he ages. His ability to keep his body in top shape and remain dominant on the court is unmatched. LeBron’s longevity allows him to continue playing at a high level and contribute significantly to his team’s success year after year. LeBron has also proven his adaptability and leadership in a way that few other players can match. Throughout his career, he has played for different teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers. Each time he has been able to lead his team to championships, showcasing his ability to adapt to new environments and work with different teammates. Winning NBA championships with multiple teams, LeBron has demonstrated that his greatness is not tied to a specific system or group of players but is a result of his unique talent and leadership skills. Another reason I believe LeBron is the greatest is his remarkable scoring ability. He is the all-time leading scorer in NBA history, a testament to his sustained excellence and versatility. LeBron can score in a variety of ways, whether it's driving to the basket, hitting jump shots, or passing the ball to set up his teammates. His scoring consistency over the years, paired with his ability to make crucial plays when it matters most, solidifies his place among the best. However, what sets LeBron apart even more is his character off the court. He is deeply committed to giving back to his community and uses his platform to inspire and help others. LeBron's philanthropy, including his work in establishing the "I PROMISE School" for at-risk children in Akron, Ohio, shows that his influence extends beyond basketball. He has continuously used his success to make a positive impact in the lives of others, something that makes him a role model both on and off the court. While there have been other greats like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, LeBron’s ability to lead multiple teams to championships, his scoring records, his consistency, and his off-court efforts make him the best basketball player of all time in my eyes. His impact on the game, and his willingness to give back to his community, are what truly make him stand out. LeBron James is not only a basketball legend but also an example of what it means to be a true leader and role model.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
Mental health is often a silent, unseen struggle that can have a profound effect on one’s beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. For me, my journey with mental health began through a deeply personal experience: my sister’s battle with epilepsy. Watching her suffer from frequent seizures left me feeling helpless and emotionally drained. I struggled to reconcile the overwhelming sense of powerlessness that came from not being able to do anything to help her during these episodes. This emotional toll took a serious hit on my mental well-being, leading to a period of depression. However, my path toward healing came through therapy, and the journey ultimately strengthened my relationships and reshaped my career aspirations. In the beginning, I felt utterly helpless watching my sister go through seizure after seizure. I wanted to be the strong, supportive sibling, but the reality of the situation was harsh—I couldn’t control what was happening. My sister’s seizures seemed to strike without warning, leaving me feeling isolated in my inability to protect or ease her suffering. Over time, the constant stress and worry started to affect my own mental health, and I found myself feeling anxious and, at times, deeply sad. This emotional weight manifested as a low mood and a sense of disconnect from those around me, even though I was surrounded by people who cared for me. During this period of struggle, I briefly lost my faith. I couldn’t understand why a higher power would allow my sister to endure such suffering, and it made me question everything I had once believed in. The overwhelming sense of powerlessness and confusion led to feelings of anger and sadness toward my faith. However, as I continued to talk through my emotions with my therapist, I came to realize something profound. Through these conversations, I understood that sometimes, the greatest challenges are given to those who are strong enough to bear them. This realization helped me reconnect with my faith, as I came to believe that my sister’s strength in facing her condition was a testament to the resilience that faith can nurture within us. Recognizing that I was struggling, I decided to seek help and started seeing a therapist. Talking to someone who was trained to listen and guide me through my emotions gave me the space to process my feelings. My therapist helped me understand that it was okay to feel helpless, but that it was important to find ways to help without taking on the weight of the situation by myself. I began to learn coping mechanisms and healthy outlets to manage the anxiety and sadness I was experiencing. More importantly, I began to develop a new perspective on my role in my sister’s life. I could not control her seizures, but I could be there for her in ways that mattered. This process of self-reflection and emotional growth allowed me to build a deeper and more meaningful relationship with my sister. I stopped focusing solely on what I couldn’t do, and instead, I found ways to offer support in ways that were within my control—whether that was learning more about epilepsy to better understand her condition, creating a safer environment for her during seizures, or simply offering emotional support. My relationship with her became stronger because I was able to empathize with her on a deeper level, while also maintaining healthy boundaries for my own mental well-being. Additionally, my mental health journey has shaped my views on personal growth and resilience, which has had a significant impact on my career aspirations. I now believe in the importance of emotional intelligence and mental health awareness in any field I pursue. Understanding the struggles that come with mental health challenges has given me a new level of empathy, and I feel driven to pursue a career that allows me to help others who may be experiencing their own battles. Whether that involves pursuing a career in counseling, healthcare, or even advocating for mental health support in the workplace, I know that I want to be part of a field that empowers others to seek the help they need and break the stigma surrounding mental health. In conclusion, my experience with mental health, shaped by my sister’s epilepsy, has significantly influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. Through therapy and self-reflection, I learned the value of self-compassion, the importance of being there for others in meaningful ways, and how to pursue emotional growth. My relationship with my sister became stronger because of my new understanding of her struggles, and my relationship with myself improved as I learned how to manage my own mental health. This experience has not only inspired me to pursue a career that focuses on helping others but also instilled a belief that we all have the power to overcome our challenges with the right support and mindset. Ultimately, I have learned that the strongest battles are often given to the strongest warriors, and that faith and resilience are key to overcoming life's toughest moments.
    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Math has always been something I deeply appreciate because of its consistency and logic. In a world full of uncertainties, math offers a sense of stability. For example, 2+2 will always equal 4, no matter the time or place. This unchanging nature of math is comforting and reassuring to me. Another reason I love math is that it is equation-based, which creates a clear structure for problem-solving. Once you understand the fundamental principles, you can apply them to various problems. Math provides a step-by-step process that makes it easier to follow and understand, turning complex problems into manageable tasks. Solving math problems feels like solving a puzzle, and the satisfaction of finding the right answer is rewarding. Math is also all around us. Whether we are budgeting, cooking, or navigating daily life, math is an integral part of everything we do. From measuring distances while driving to calculating time, math is embedded in the fabric of our everyday routines. It’s the universal language that helps us make sense of the world and interact with it more effectively. Perhaps what I enjoy most about math is its objectivity. There are right and wrong answers, and mistakes are easy to spot and correct. This eliminates any ambiguity, making math feel fair and logical. Unlike other areas where answers might be influenced by opinions or emotions, math stands firm on facts and proof. In conclusion, I love math because it is consistent, structured, and practical. Its logical nature and the satisfaction of solving problems make it enjoyable and useful. Whether in everyday life or complex scenarios, math offers clarity and certainty, which is why it continues to be a subject I admire.
    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
The lyric from Olivia Rodrigo’s “GUTS” that resonates most with my teenage experience is, "And I despise my jealous eyes and how hard they fell for you / Yeah, I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you," from the song "Lacy". This line perfectly captures the feelings of jealousy and insecurity that many teenagers experience. It speaks to how, as teens, we often idealize others and base our self-worth on what we see on the surface, without considering what lies beneath. It also highlights the inner conflict that comes with these feelings, which I, and many others, can relate to. Adolescence is a time of self-discovery, where we try to figure out who we are and where we fit in. In this process, we often compare ourselves to others, whether it's our peers, celebrities, or people we see on social media. We look at their seemingly perfect lives and think they have it all figured out, which can make us feel insecure about our own lives. Rodrigo’s lyric "how hard they fell for you" speaks to how we tend to idolize others based on their popularity, beauty, or success. We assume their lives are better than ours and that their achievements are out of reach, even though we often only see a small part of their reality. I have found myself feeling jealous of others, whether it was over their looks, their success, or their social lives. It’s easy to let these feelings consume us, especially in today’s age of social media, where everyone seems to have a perfect life on display. This can amplify feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. We forget that what we see online is often curated and doesn't show the full picture. It can be hard to separate these perceptions from reality, especially when we are still figuring out our own identity and place in the world. The second part of the lyric, “I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you,” speaks to the internal struggle of jealousy. As teens, we often focus too much on what others have, thinking that their success or appearance somehow makes them better than us. In doing so, we lose sight of our own value. Rodrigo’s use of the word “worship” emphasizes how unhealthy this fixation can become, as we elevate others while devaluing ourselves. However, as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize that jealousy often comes from insecurity, and it’s unfair to compare my journey to someone else’s. It’s easy to forget that social media doesn’t show the full picture and that no one’s life is perfect. Through reflection, I’ve learned to focus on my own growth rather than constantly measuring myself against others. This realization has helped me understand that true self-worth doesn’t come from how we compare to others, but from accepting ourselves for who we are. Olivia Rodrigo’s lyric from "Lacy" encapsulates the emotional turmoil of adolescence, showing how jealousy can take hold and lead to self-doubt. As we grow and mature, we realize that comparison only hinders our progress. With time, we learn that our value isn’t defined by someone else’s success or image of perfection, and that true confidence comes from within.
    Wicked Fan Scholarship
One of the main reasons I am such a big fan of Wicked is because of how it challenges traditional ideas of right and wrong, especially through its portrayal of the "villain" Elphaba. The story of Elphaba, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West, speaks volumes about how people are often misunderstood and judged based on external appearances. It has influenced how I view the world and people around me, teaching me not to judge others by their outward appearances, but by who they are as individuals. The song "Defying Gravity" from the musical is one that stands out the most to me. It is an anthem of empowerment, where Elphaba decides to embrace her true self despite the harsh judgments placed on her. Throughout the show, Elphaba is seen as "wicked" simply because she is different. Her green skin and magical abilities make her an outcast, but she refuses to let others define her. This powerful song reminds me of the importance of embracing who we are, even when the world around us might not understand or accept us. In my own life, it has inspired me to stay true to myself and not let superficial opinions control how I see myself. What I find most fascinating about Wicked is how it turns the classic idea of a villain on its head. Traditionally, villains are often portrayed as evil, with little to no backstory or reasoning for their actions. However, Wicked shows us that Elphaba is not evil, but misunderstood. She has good intentions and is simply trying to make the world a better place, but her actions are misinterpreted due to her appearance. This has been a powerful lesson for me in how easily people can be labeled based on their outward appearance. It has taught me to look beyond the surface and focus on understanding people's true character and motives before passing judgment. Elphaba's journey has also influenced how I think about my relationships with others. It serves as a reminder that people should not be judged based on how they look or the labels society places on them, but rather on their actions and inner qualities. By doing so, we can foster a more empathetic and accepting world. The musical teaches us that it’s important to see people for who they truly are, rather than just how they are perceived by others. In conclusion, my love for Wicked goes beyond just its music and captivating storyline. It has fundamentally changed the way I think about people and the world around me. The musical has taught me to avoid judging others based on appearances and instead focus on understanding their true selves. It has encouraged me to embrace individuality, be true to myself, and challenge the stereotypes and labels that society often imposes. Wicked has shown me that true power comes from accepting who we are, flaws and all, and not letting the judgments of others hold us back.

Mental health is often a silent, unseen struggle that profoundly affects one’s beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. For me, my experience with mental health began through a personal challenge—my sister’s battle with epilepsy. Watching her endure frequent seizures left me feeling helpless and emotionally drained. I struggled with my inability to assist her during these episodes, which took a toll on my own mental well-being. This emotional burden led to a period of depression. However, my journey toward healing came through therapy, and this process ultimately strengthened my relationships and reshaped my career goals. In the beginning, I felt powerless watching my sister suffer from seizure after seizure. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t protect her. The frustration of not being able to help made me feel disconnected from those around me. This emotional weight started affecting my own mental health, leading to feelings of sadness and anxiety. Over time, I began questioning why my sister was enduring such pain. During this difficult period, I briefly lost my faith. I couldn’t understand why a higher power would allow her to suffer, and it led to feelings of anger and confusion. However, seeking therapy helped me process these emotions and gain a new perspective. Through conversations with my therapist, I realized that sometimes the greatest challenges are given to those with the strength to endure them. This realization helped me reconnect with my faith. I now believe that my sister’s resilience in facing her condition is a testament to the strength that comes from faith. I understood that her suffering wasn’t a sign of abandonment but a test of her strength—a strength I too could lean on. Therapy became an essential tool in helping me navigate my emotions. It taught me to accept that feeling helpless at times is okay, but it also showed me that I could still help in ways that were within my control. I couldn’t stop her seizures, but I could educate myself about epilepsy, create a safer environment for her during episodes, and be a source of emotional support. My relationship with my sister became stronger as I learned to empathize with her while also maintaining my own emotional well-being. This personal growth also influenced my career aspirations. My experience with mental health, particularly through my sister’s condition, highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence and mental health awareness in any field I pursue. I became passionate about helping others who struggle with their mental health and want to break the stigma surrounding it. I am now driven to pursue a career where I can support individuals experiencing emotional challenges, whether that means working in counseling, healthcare, or advocacy. In conclusion, my experience with mental health, especially in relation to my sister’s epilepsy, has greatly impacted my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. Through therapy and self-reflection, I learned to manage my emotions and support my sister in meaningful ways. My faith was restored, and my relationship with myself and my sister grew stronger. Ultimately, I learned that the greatest challenges are often given to those who are strong enough to face them. This experience has shaped my desire to help others overcome their own struggles and has guided my career path toward a future where I can make a positive impact on others’ lives.

I would say that a lot of my humor comes from sitcoms, whether that be a blessing or a curse for other people. I personally see it as a blessing to them that they can be surrounded by such a humorous person. One night, I was watching The Office as I have countless times when, in one of the episodes, Jim conducts a Pavlov experiment on Dwight. After his computer made an error noise, he would offer Dwight an altoid. After a couple of times doing that, Jim stopped asking, and Dwight instinctively stuck out his hand for an altoid when Jim's computer made an error noise. However, he was asked what he was doing. He said I don't know; my mouth just started to taste bad. I found it hilarious and immediately thought about doing this experiment on my sister. I needed to figure out what action I would choose and what treatment response I would give to her. I decided to start playing a song and offer her a piece of gum. So every Saturday when she would wake, I would turn on my speaker and start playing It Will Rain by Bruno Mars; I have no idea why I chose that, but I did and offered a piece of gum, which I knew she would never turn down. After three months of doing this, I played the song on Saturday like usual but did not offer a piece of gum. She began to ask if I had gum, to which I said no and said why. She said I don't know know. My breath stinks, but I brush my teeth, so I don't know why. It was so hard for me to hide my laughter. To this day, I die laughing at this thought. I am currently giggling while writing this. I still haven't told her, and she still asks for gum anytime It Will Rain plays.

I am working to address the social issue of accessibility to youth sports, particularly soccer, for low-income children. In many communities, children from underprivileged backgrounds are unable to participate in sports due to the financial barriers that exist, such as high registration fees, expensive equipment, and travel costs. This creates an environment where sports, which can provide children with crucial life skills and personal development, are out of reach for many. I’ve seen firsthand how impactful sports, specifically soccer, can be for kids, and I am passionate about ensuring that every child has the opportunity to experience these benefits. Growing up, soccer was a central part of my life. Not only did it give me a sense of purpose and belonging, but it also became an outlet for me during challenging times. I saw how playing the game helped me develop discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, qualities that have shaped my personal growth. Recognizing that many children don’t have access to these same opportunities because of their financial situation, I decided to take action to give them a chance to experience the same joy and life lessons that I gained from the sport. I host free soccer games and training sessions for children in low-income communities. These events are designed to introduce kids to soccer, teach them valuable skills, and foster a sense of community. These sessions are open to all children, regardless of their background or ability to pay, and are centered around having fun, building confidence, and developing teamwork. In addition to the games and training, I also raise money to provide soccer equipment for kids who cannot afford it. I’ve organized fundraising events, reached out to local businesses for donations, and collaborated with organizations that share the same mission. This funding goes directly to purchasing new or gently used soccer equipment for the children, ensuring they have the gear they need to play and enjoy the game. By lowering these barriers, I hope to give every child the tools they need to succeed both on and off the field. What drives me the most in this mission is the belief that soccer can be more than just a sport. For many kids, it’s an outlet to build self-esteem, stay active, and form meaningful connections with others, but most importantly it keeps these kids out of the streets. Soccer can teach them about resilience, leadership, and how to work toward a goal, all while having fun. It’s my hope that through these programs, we can help develop not just athletes, but confident and empowered individuals who carry the lessons learned on the field into every aspect of their lives. In the end, my goal is to create a lasting impact in my community by making soccer accessible to all children, regardless of their financial circumstances. I truly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to play, learn, and grow through sports. By continuing to provide free games, training, and equipment, I hope to open doors for children who may have never thought soccer was a possibility for them. It’s a cause I’m deeply passionate about, and I’m committed to ensuring that as many kids as possible have the chance to experience the life-changing benefits of the sport.
