Ever since I was little, I have believed that helping people is one of the most important things a person can do. I may not have everything figured out yet, but I know one thing for certain: I want my future career to make a difference in people’s lives. Attending higher education will help me achieve my dream of becoming a dental hygienist, while also allowing me to continue making a positive impact through service, compassion, and encouragement to others.
Growing up, I learned that kindness matters more than people realize. Small acts, such as helping someone carry groceries, listening when someone is struggling, or volunteering time to help families in need, can completely change a person’s day. Because of this mindset, volunteering has become an important part of my life. I volunteer at my local food bank, where I help organize donations, prepare food boxes, and assist families who may be going through difficult times. Through this experience, I have learned the value of patience, teamwork, and empathy. I have seen firsthand how much people appreciate being treated with dignity and care, even during hard moments.
One of the most meaningful experiences I had was volunteering at a food bank in Las Vegas while on a trip. Even though I was far from home, I realized that compassion has no boundaries. No matter where people come from, everyone deserves kindness and support. That experience reminded me that service is not something you do only when it is convenient; it is a lifelong commitment to helping others whenever possible. Volunteering has strengthened my desire to work in a career focused on caring for people.
I want to become a dental hygienist because I know oral health is deeply connected to confidence, health, and overall well-being. Many people are embarrassed about their teeth or afraid to go to the dentist because of judgment or fear. I want to change that. I want to create a welcoming environment where patients feel safe, respected, and cared for. I hope to educate people about oral health while also encouraging them to feel confident in themselves. A smile can impact the way someone sees themselves, and I want to be part of helping people regain that confidence.
Higher education is the key that will help me turn these goals into reality. College will provide me with the education, training, and hands-on experience necessary to become a skilled dental hygienist. It will also challenge me to grow personally and professionally. I know the journey will not always be easy, but I am willing to work hard because I understand the importance of achieving my goals. Earning a degree will allow me to build a stable future while pursuing a career that is meaningful to me.
My faith also plays a major role in motivating me to keep going. Every night, I pray for guidance, strength, and the opportunity to become a dental hygienist one day. Prayer reminds me to stay hopeful, even when life feels stressful or uncertain. It gives me confidence that my hard work and dedication will eventually lead me toward the future I have dreamed about. I believe that with faith, determination, and education, I can achieve my goals and positively impact the lives of others.
In the future, I plan to continue volunteering and giving back to my community while working in the dental field. I want to inspire others to believe in themselves, no matter their circumstances. By attending higher education, I will gain the tools needed to build not only a successful career, but also a life centered around service, compassion, and making others feel valued.

One thing that makes me stand out is that I am dyslexic. For most of my life, reading and processing words have been much more difficult for me than for many of my classmates. While other students could read quickly and confidently, I often struggled to keep up. I would mix up words, read slowly, or have trouble understanding things the first time I read them. Because of this, school was not always easy for me, especially when it came to reading out loud or completing assignments that involved a lot of reading and writing.
What made it even harder was that many people did not understand what dyslexia really was. Some people assumed I was not paying attention, not trying hard enough, or simply lazy. Hearing those things was discouraging because they did not see the extra effort I was putting in behind the scenes. I often had to spend more time studying, rereading assignments, or practicing things that came naturally to others. There were moments when I felt embarrassed or frustrated because I knew I was capable, but my struggles with reading made me feel different.
One of the most awkward parts for me was reading out loud in class. I would get nervous before my turn because I was afraid of stumbling over words or having people notice my mistakes. Even when I practiced ahead of time, I still worried about being judged. Those experiences made me shy in certain situations and caused me to doubt myself at times. However, as I got older, I began to realize that dyslexia did not define my intelligence or my potential.
Living with dyslexia has taught me lessons that I might not have learned otherwise. It has made me resilient, patient, and determined. Since things do not always come easily to me, I have learned how to work hard and push through challenges even when I feel discouraged. I have also learned how to advocate for myself and ask questions when I need help instead of staying silent. These skills have helped me grow not only as a student, but also as a person.
Having dyslexia has also made me more compassionate toward others. Because I know what it feels like to struggle and be misunderstood, I try to treat people with kindness and patience. Everyone has challenges that others may not fully see, and my experiences have taught me not to judge people too quickly.
Although dyslexia can still be difficult at times, I no longer see it as something that only holds me back. Instead, I see it as a part of what makes me unique. It has shaped me into someone who works hard, stays determined, and refuses to give up. My struggles with reading have taught me strength, perseverance, and confidence, and those qualities will continue to help me succeed in the future.
Learner Online Learning Innovator Scholarship for Veterans
In today’s world, online platforms, tools, and resources play a major role in helping students better understand the subjects they are studying. I regularly use a variety of these resources to strengthen my knowledge, improve my study habits, and apply what I learn in more meaningful ways. These tools allow me to go beyond the classroom and take more control over my own learning.
One of the most helpful resources I use is educational websites such as Khan Academy and Quizlet. Khan Academy provides clear, step-by-step explanations that make difficult topics easier to understand, especially in subjects like math and science. When I struggle with something in class, I can revisit the lesson online and learn at my own pace until I fully understand it. Quizlet helps me with memorization by allowing me to create digital flashcards and practice tests. This has made studying more efficient and has helped me retain important information for quizzes and exams.
I also use YouTube as a learning tool because it offers a wide range of educational videos. Sometimes, hearing a concept explained in a different way or seeing it demonstrated visually helps me understand it better than reading about it in a textbook. This is especially helpful for me as a visual learner, because it makes learning more engaging and easier to follow.
In addition, I use search engines like Google to research topics and find more information. This allows me to explore subjects more deeply and learn from multiple sources. It also helps me develop important research skills, such as identifying reliable information and comparing different perspectives. By doing this, I am able to gain a better understanding of the material and become a more independent learner.
Writing tools such as Grammarly and Google Docs also play an important role in my learning. Grammarly helps me improve my grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, while Google Docs makes it easy to organize and edit my work. These tools have helped me become a more confident writer and communicate my ideas more clearly in my assignments.
Overall, using these online platforms, tools, and resources has helped me not only understand my subjects better but also apply my knowledge in real-life situations. Instead of simply memorizing information, I am able to practice, review, and engage with the material in different ways. This has made me a more independent, confident, and effective learner, which will benefit me throughout my education and future career.
Christian Fitness Association General Scholarship
I believe I should be considered for this scholarship because of my perseverance, my commitment to growth, and my determination to succeed academically and personally despite challenges. Throughout high school, I have worked hard not only in the classroom but also in extracurricular activities, all while adjusting to major transitions in my education and learning to overcome obstacles related to dyslexia. These experiences have shaped my character, strengthened my work ethic, and motivated me to continue pursuing higher education so I can build a stable future for myself and give back to others.
Academically, I have pushed myself to succeed even when learning has not always come easily. As someone with dyslexia, reading and writing have required extra effort, patience, and persistence. Instead of allowing this to discourage me, I have learned how to adapt my study habits and develop strategies that work best for me. I have had to work harder than many of my peers just to reach the same academic goals, but that process has taught me discipline and resilience. Over time, I have grown more confident in my abilities and have proven to myself that I can succeed through determination and consistency. My educational journey has taught me that success is not about being the fastest learner, but about refusing to give up when things are difficult.
In addition to my academic work, I have also been involved in extracurricular activities. I participated in track for two years and played basketball for one year. These experiences taught me discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Being part of a team helped me understand the importance of commitment, accountability, and pushing through challenges even when things become difficult physically or mentally. Sports also helped me build confidence, manage stress, and learn how to stay focused on goals both individually and as part of a group. I learned how important it is to keep going even when I am tired, discouraged, or facing setbacks, and those lessons have carried over into my academic life.
One of the biggest challenges I have faced during school was transitioning from a public school to a Christian private school after moving from a very different learning environment into a more structured and faith-based setting. At first, this change was overwhelming because I had to adjust to new expectations, teaching styles, academic rigor, and social environments all at once. I also had to learn how to build new relationships and find my place in a school where many students already knew each other. On top of that, I was still navigating learning challenges related to dyslexia, which made the adjustment even more difficult at times.
This transition also affected my family financially, as attending a private Christian school came with added costs and adjustments. However, despite the financial strain, my family and I made the decision because we valued the environment and the foundation it would provide for my education and personal growth. Looking back, I truly believe that receiving a faith-based education has been one of the best decisions I could have made. It has not only strengthened my academics, but it has also helped shape my character, values, and sense of purpose in a way that continues to guide me today.
However, I now see this transition as one of the best decisions I could have made for myself. It forced me to grow in independence, maturity, and responsibility. I had to learn how to speak up for myself, ask questions when I did not understand something, and take ownership of my learning in a way I had not before. While the beginning was challenging, it ultimately helped me develop resilience and confidence in my ability to adapt to new environments.
When I first made the switch, I felt unsure of where I fit in and how I would perform academically. There were moments when I questioned myself and felt pressure to keep up. However, over time, I learned how to advocate for myself, ask for help when needed, and take responsibility for my own success. I began to understand that struggling does not mean failing, and that growth often comes from uncomfortable situations. This experience helped me realize that I am capable of handling change and overcoming obstacles, even when they feel overwhelming at first.
Overall, I believe I should be considered for this scholarship because I have demonstrated growth, perseverance, and dedication in both academics and extracurricular activities. I have learned how to overcome challenges related to dyslexia, adapt to major life transitions, and stay committed to my goals even when things were not easy. My experiences in track, basketball, and my educational journey have all shaped me into someone who works hard, stays determined, and continues to push forward no matter what challenges arise.
I am committed to continuing my education and using what I have learned to build a successful future. This scholarship would not only help support my academic journey, but it would also allow me to continue growing into someone who can give back and positively impact others. I want to use my experiences to encourage others who may be facing similar struggles, showing them that with perseverance and support, it is possible to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
Arthur and Elana Panos Scholarship
My faith in God has been a steady source of strength, guidance, and comfort throughout my life. In moments of uncertainty, struggle, and emotional difficulty, my relationship with God has helped me stay grounded and reminded me that I am never alone in what I am facing. Even during times when I felt overwhelmed or unsure about my future, my faith gave me hope that there was a greater purpose for my life and that my challenges were not the end of my story.
There have been seasons in my life where I struggled deeply with mental health and personal challenges. During those times, prayer became one of the most important ways I coped. I learned to bring my worries to God instead of carrying them on my own. While everything did not change overnight, my faith helped me find peace in the middle of difficult situations. It reminded me that healing takes time and that I can trust God even when I do not fully understand what I am going through.
My faith has also shaped the way I view and treat other people. Being raised with Christian values and actively participating in my Baptist church has taught me the importance of compassion, forgiveness, and service. I have learned that every person has value and deserves kindness, regardless of what they are going through or how they may appear on the outside. This belief has helped me become more patient and understanding in my relationships, and it has encouraged me to be someone who tries to uplift others rather than judge them.
Attending a Christian school as a senior has also strengthened my faith and helped me connect my beliefs to my daily life. It has shown me that faith is not just something I practice in church, but something that should guide my actions, decisions, and character in all areas of life. I have learned that living with integrity means trying to reflect Christ in how I treat others, how I work, and how I handle challenges.
I believe my faith will continue to guide me in my future career as a dental hygienist. In healthcare, people often feel nervous, self-conscious, or even ashamed when they come in for treatment. I want to be someone who brings comfort and kindness into those moments. My faith teaches me to treat others with love and respect, and I plan to carry that into every interaction with patients. I want to create a space where people feel safe, cared for, and valued, not judged.
I also believe my faith will help me stay focused on serving others rather than just going through the motions of a job. Being a dental hygienist is not only about improving oral health, but also about helping people feel confident in their smiles. I see that as a way of serving others in a meaningful way, because something as simple as a smile can affect a person’s confidence and overall well-being. My faith reminds me that even small acts of care can make a big difference in someone’s life.
Overall, my faith in God has helped me grow stronger through challenges, shaped my character, and given me a sense of purpose. It has taught me to rely on Him in difficult times and to treat others with compassion and respect. As I move into my future career, I believe my faith will continue to guide my decisions, strengthen my work ethic, and help me serve others with kindness, patience, and love. I hope to reflect my faith in both my words and how I treat others.

My experience with mental health has deeply influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career goals. It has shaped how I see others, strengthened my compassion, and made me want a career where I can help people feel confident and supported. I have learned that mental health is just as important as physical health and deserves understanding and care.
One of the most defining moments in my life was leaving public school in sixth grade due to mental health struggles. At a young age, I did not fully understand what I was going through, but I knew daily life felt overwhelming. School and social pressures became too difficult, and stepping away was necessary for my well-being. That experience taught me that mental health challenges can affect anyone and that sometimes stepping back is part of healing.
After leaving public school, I worked with therapists and doctors. While I understand they were trying to help, I often felt misunderstood. It sometimes felt like I was being labeled instead of being truly heard. I also struggled with the idea of medication and being told I should not feel the way I did. Although this was painful, it taught me how important it is to listen to people with empathy and make them feel validated.
During this time, my mental health also slowed my education. I struggled with focus, motivation, and confidence, and I often felt behind. There were moments when I doubted myself and my ability to succeed. However, over time, I rebuilt my confidence and developed better learning strategies. This helped me realize that setbacks do not define the future and that growth is still possible after difficult seasons.
I also experienced losses of classmates and family members due to mental health, which deeply affected me. These experiences made me more aware that people often carry hidden struggles. They taught me to be more patient, compassionate, and understanding toward others.
Because of everything I have been through, I strongly believe mental health should be treated with the same importance as physical health. Support, kindness, and understanding can change someone’s life. These experiences have shaped my desire to become a dental hygienist, where I can help people feel confident in their smiles and improve how they feel about themselves. I believe a smile can have a powerful impact on self-esteem and mental health.
As a dental hygienist, I want to create a calm and supportive environment where patients feel respected and cared for. I hope to help both children and adults leave feeling more confident than when they arrived.
Overall, my experiences with mental health have shaped my resilience, empathy, and goals. They have helped me grow into someone who values understanding and wants to make a positive difference in others’ lives.
Dream BIG, Rise HIGHER Scholarship
Education has played a major role in shaping my goals, giving me direction for my future, and helping me understand what I want to achieve in life. Through my experiences in school, I have come to realize that education is not only about learning information, but also about building confidence, discipline, and the ability to create a better future for myself and others. It has shown me that my circumstances do not define my potential, and that with hard work and the right opportunities, I can build a life that is very different from the one I grew up with.
One of the biggest ways education has influenced me is by showing me the value of pursuing higher learning. Growing up, I have experienced financial struggles that made me aware of how important stability and opportunity are. There were times when I saw how stress around money can affect families and limit choices, and that has stayed with me. Because of that, I have developed a strong desire to continue my education after high school. I understand that obtaining a higher education will open doors that may not otherwise be available to me. It will allow me to have more financial stability than what I experienced growing up and give me the ability to build a life where I am not constantly limited by financial stress. More importantly, it will give me the opportunity to create options for myself that I never had before, and to eventually give back to others in meaningful ways.
My educational journey has not always been easy. As someone with dyslexia and a 504 Plan, I have had to work harder to keep up in certain areas, especially reading and writing. When I was younger, I did not understand why I struggled as much as I did, which often made me feel frustrated and discouraged. I remember feeling behind in class and comparing myself to others who seemed to grasp things more quickly. However, over time, I learned how to adapt and develop strategies that work for me. I learned how to slow down, process information differently, and use support systems when needed. I also learned that asking for help is not a weakness, but a strength that allows me to keep moving forward. These challenges taught me patience, resilience, and determination, and they helped me realize that success does not come from being perfect, but from being persistent even when things are difficult.
Despite these challenges, education has become something that motivates me rather than discourages me. I have learned that I am capable of overcoming obstacles and achieving my goals when I stay committed. Teachers, support programs, and my own determination have all played a role in helping me grow into a more confident student. Over time, I began to understand how I learn best, and I started to rely less on accommodations because I developed my own strategies to succeed. This growth has shown me that I am capable of independence and that I can adapt to challenges in ways I never thought possible.
These experiences have given me direction and helped me understand that I want to use my education not just for personal success, but to make a positive impact on others as well. My future goal is to become a dental assistant, and I see education as the pathway that will help me get there. I am drawn to this career because it allows me to help people in a hands-on and meaningful way. Dental assistants play an important role in helping patients feel comfortable, cared for, and confident in their smiles. I want to be someone who eases people’s anxiety in a dental setting and helps them feel safe and respected. A simple smile can change how someone feels about themselves, and I want to contribute to that positive change in people’s lives.
Beyond my career goals, I also want to use my education and future stability to help others who may be facing challenges similar to mine. Because I have experienced financial struggles and academic difficulties, I understand how important encouragement and opportunity can be. I want to be in a position where I can give back, whether that is through community service, supporting programs that help students, or simply being someone who encourages others not to give up. Education will give me the tools and stability to make that possible, and it will allow me to create a life where I can support not only myself, but also those around me.
Overall, education has shaped my goals by helping me see beyond my current circumstances and into a future where I can succeed and serve others. It has taught me that challenges do not define my limits, and that with determination, I can create a better life for myself. More importantly, it has inspired me to use my future success to positively impact others, just as others have supported me along the way. Education is not just a path to a career for me it is a path to purpose, stability, and service.

Selected paragraph (Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, Book 7):
“Do not waste what remains of your life in speculating about others, unless it is with a view to some mutual benefit. For you are depriving yourself of another task when you are occupied with what so-and-so is doing, and why, and what he is saying, and what he is thinking, and what he is planning, and whatever else distracts you from attending to your own ruling center.”
The central meaning of this passage is that a meaningful and well-lived life depends on disciplined control of one’s attention, and that focusing on the thoughts, actions, and intentions of others without purpose weakens a person’s ability to govern themselves. Marcus Aurelius is not merely warning against gossip or curiosity; he is presenting a Stoic argument that the human mind has a responsibility to remain directed inward, toward self-improvement and moral clarity. When attention is constantly pulled outward, the individual loses connection with their own values, judgment, and sense of direction.
The phrase “do not waste what remains of your life” immediately establishes urgency. Marcus Aurelius frames life as something limited and already in motion, suggesting that time is not something to be passively spent but actively managed. The underlying meaning is that every moment has value, and when time is spent on unnecessary mental distractions, it cannot be recovered. This creates a philosophical tension between what is useful and what is merely habitual. Thinking about others’ actions, intentions, or opinions may feel natural, but it is not always productive. The writer challenges the reader to evaluate whether their thoughts are actually contributing to their growth or simply filling mental space.
A key idea in the passage is the concept of the “ruling center,” which refers to the mind’s capacity for reasoned judgment and self-control. Marcus Aurelius suggests that this ruling center is the most important part of a person’s being, because it determines how one interprets and responds to life. When a person becomes preoccupied with external matters what others are doing, thinking, or planning they lose focus on this internal authority. The deeper implication is that identity and moral strength are not shaped by external knowledge, but by internal discipline. A person who cannot govern their attention cannot fully govern their life.
The repetition of “what so-and-so is doing, and why…” emphasizes how easily the mind can become scattered. Marcus Aurelius intentionally lists these forms of speculation to show how quickly attention multiplies outward once it begins. The underlying meaning is that distraction is not always dramatic; it is often made up of small, continuous thoughts that seem harmless but collectively pull a person away from their purpose. In this sense, the passage is less about external behavior and more about internal mental habits.
However, the text does not advocate complete withdrawal from others. The phrase “unless it is with a view to some mutual benefit” introduces balance. Stoicism is not about ignoring society or relationships; rather, it is about ensuring that engagement with others has meaning and purpose. The writer acknowledges that human beings are social, but he insists that social awareness should serve growth, cooperation, or virtue rather than idle curiosity or comparison. This distinction is important because it prevents the philosophy from becoming selfish isolation. Instead, it becomes a framework for intentional living.
In a broader philosophical sense, Marcus Aurelius is arguing that freedom comes from mastery of attention. A person is not free simply because they can act without restriction, but because they can direct their mind toward what matters most. When attention is constantly given away to external speculation, the individual becomes mentally fragmented. They react to life rather than actively shaping it. In contrast, when attention is guarded and intentionally directed, a person gains clarity and strength of character.
This message is especially powerful because it shifts responsibility inward. It suggests that peace and stability are not dependent on controlling external circumstances or fully understanding other people, but on controlling one’s interpretation and focus. The more energy a person spends trying to decode the lives of others, the less energy they have to improve their own.
Ultimately, the passage teaches that a well-ordered life requires intentional focus on the self, not in a selfish sense, but in a disciplined and responsible one. Marcus Aurelius is guiding the reader toward the idea that the highest form of living is not found in outward observation, but in inward mastery. By protecting the “ruling center,” a person develops resilience, purpose, and the ability to live in alignment with reason rather than distraction. This is the foundation of Stoic philosophy: true strength is not control over the world, but control over the mind that experiences it.

I believe I embody a life of service through my faith, my education, and my commitment to helping others in both my local community and beyond. Being an active member of my Baptist church has played a major role in shaping who I am today. My church has taught me the importance of serving others with humility, kindness, and love. Whether it is helping with church events, participating in youth activities, or simply supporting members of my congregation, I have learned that service is not always about big actions, but about consistently showing up for people in meaningful ways.
Attending a Christian school as a senior has also strengthened my values and deepened my understanding of what it means to live a life centered on faith. My school environment has encouraged me to integrate my beliefs into my daily actions, reminding me that my character and how I treat others reflect my faith. It has helped me develop a stronger sense of purpose, not only in my education but also in how I interact with those around me. I have learned that serving others is a reflection of God’s love, and it is something I strive to practice in both small and large ways.
One of the most impactful ways I have lived out service is through volunteering at my local food bank. This experience has shown me the real needs within my community and allowed me to directly contribute to helping families who are going through difficult times. Whether I am sorting donations or helping distribute food, I have seen how even simple acts of service can bring relief and hope to others. It has taught me gratitude and compassion, and it has inspired me to continue giving my time whenever possible.
In addition, I had the opportunity to volunteer at a food bank in Las Vegas during my senior trip. That experience was especially meaningful because it showed me that service is not limited to one place. Even while traveling, I was able to step into a different community and still make a positive impact. It reminded me that people everywhere face challenges, and kindness and service are needed in every environment. That experience strengthened my desire to continue serving others wherever life takes me.
Looking ahead, I plan to become a dental hygienist. I am drawn to this career because it allows me to help people in a practical and personal way by improving their health and confidence. A smile is something powerful it can affect how someone feels about themselves and how they interact with the world. As a dental hygienist, I want to help people feel comfortable, cared for, and proud of their smiles. I see this career as an opportunity to combine my interest in healthcare with my desire to serve others.
Beyond my professional goals, I also hope to continue sharing my faith through my actions and relationships. I want to be someone who reflects God’s love in my workplace and daily life, showing kindness, patience, and encouragement to those I encounter. Whether through my career or my personal life, my goal is to serve others in a way that uplifts them both physically and spiritually.
Overall, I embody a life of service through my faith, my education, and my volunteer work, and I plan to continue that commitment throughout my career. By becoming a dental hygienist and remaining active in my faith, I hope to make a lasting difference in people’s lives while honoring God in all that I do.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
I plan to make a positive impact on the world by dedicating my life to helping others feel healthier, more confident, and more supported in their everyday lives. Over time, I have learned that even small acts of service and care can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. Whether it is through volunteering in my community or pursuing my future career, my goal is to be someone who contributes kindness, support, and encouragement wherever I go.
One of the most important ways I have already begun making an impact is through volunteering at my local food bank. Serving at the food bank has opened my eyes to how many families in my own community face food insecurity. I have helped sort, pack, and distribute food to individuals and families who rely on those resources. While the work itself may seem simple, the experience has been very powerful. I have seen firsthand how grateful people are for even the smallest amount of help, and it has taught me not to take basic needs for granted. It has also shown me the importance of compassion and consistency in serving others, because many families depend on that support regularly.
In addition to my local volunteer work, I also had the opportunity to volunteer at a food bank in Las Vegas during my senior trip. That experience was especially meaningful because it reminded me that need exists everywhere, not just in my own hometown. Even while traveling, I was able to step into a different community and contribute in a small but meaningful way. Helping families in a completely different city reinforced the idea that service is universal. No matter where people live, everyone deserves access to basic necessities and dignity. Being able to serve in both places strengthened my commitment to continuing volunteer work in the future.
Through these experiences, I have learned that I want my life’s work to be centered around helping people in a more personal and lasting way. That is why I plan to become a dental hygienist. I am drawn to this career because it allows me to directly improve people’s health while also helping them feel more confident in themselves. Oral health is often overlooked, but it plays a huge role in a person’s overall well-being and self-esteem. I want to be someone who helps people take care of their smiles, not just for health reasons, but also because of how much confidence a healthy smile can bring.
I also love the idea of building relationships with patients and making them feel comfortable in a setting that many people find stressful. I want to be the type of dental hygienist who listens, reassures, and treats every patient with kindness and respect. I believe that creating a positive experience in the dental office can have a lasting impact on how people view their own health and care for themselves in the future.
Overall, my goal is to make a positive impact on the world by combining service and healthcare. My volunteer experiences have taught me the importance of compassion and community, and my future career path will allow me to carry those values forward in a professional setting. Whether I am helping someone access food or helping them feel confident in their smile, I want to be someone who makes life a little easier and brighter for others. My experience in the Special Education program has played a major role in shaping my desire to pursue college and certification training. Being placed on a 504 Plan due to my dyslexia has given me access to the support and accommodations I needed, but more importantly, it has taught me how to advocate for myself. Over time, I have learned how to ask for help, use the resources available to me, and develop strategies that allow me to succeed academically. These skills have given me confidence that I can continue my education after high school and handle the challenges that come with it.
My diagnosis did not come until around first or second grade, which meant that before then, I struggled without fully understanding why. I often felt behind compared to others, especially in reading and writing, and it was frustrating not being able to keep up as easily. Even after my diagnosis, the challenges did not disappear. I had to work harder, stay more focused, and put in extra time to reach the same goals. However, these experiences taught me persistence and determination at a young age.
Being part of the Special Education program showed me that having a learning difference does not limit what I can achieve. Instead, it pushed me to develop a strong work ethic and a mindset focused on growth. I began to see that success is not about how quickly something comes to you, but about how willing you are to keep trying. This perspective has motivated me to pursue further education and certification training, because I know I am capable of reaching my goals with effort and dedication.
My experience with challenges and difficulty has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. Instead of discouraging me, it has made me more resilient. I have learned how to face obstacles without giving up and how to adapt when things do not come easily. These lessons extend beyond the classroom and into every aspect of my life. They have taught me patience, discipline, and confidence in my ability to overcome setbacks.
Overall, my journey with dyslexia and the support I received through my 504 Plan have inspired me to continue pushing forward. I want to prove to myself that I can succeed in higher education and in my future career. More importantly, I want to show others that challenges do not define you they can strengthen you and prepare you for even greater opportunities.
As I have grown, I have reached a point where I rely much less on my accommodations because I have taken the time to understand how my mind learns best. I have developed my own strategies that allow me to process information, stay organized, and succeed on my own terms. Instead of seeing my dyslexia as something that holds me back, I now see it as something that has taught me how to adapt and think differently. This growth has given me confidence in my ability to handle future challenges independently and continue succeeding in college and beyond.
Thank you sincerely for taking the time to read my essay and consider my application. I truly appreciate the opportunity to share my story, my challenges, and my goals with you. Being considered for this scholarship means more to me than just financial support it represents encouragement, belief, and the chance to continue pursuing my education with confidence.

Your consideration motivates me to continue pushing forward, even when challenges arise, and to make the most of every opportunity I am given.

One teacher who has had a lasting impact on my life is my senior English teacher, Ms. Casey. During my final year of high school, a time filled with uncertainty about the future, she became someone who truly changed the way I see myself and approach challenges.
From the very beginning, Ms. Casey created an environment where I felt seen and heard. English had never been the easiest subject for me, and I often struggled with confidence in my writing, especially because of my dyslexia. In the past, I sometimes felt discouraged or worried that my work would never measure up. However, Ms. Casey never let me believe that. Instead of focusing on what I struggled with, she focused on my ideas, my voice, and my effort. She made it clear that my thoughts mattered, and that I was capable of expressing them in meaningful ways.
What made her influence so powerful was her patience and encouragement. She took the time to work with me, giving thoughtful feedback and pushing me to improve while still reminding me of my strengths. She challenged me, but in a way that made me want to rise to the occasion rather than give up. Because of her, I began to approach my work with more determination and less fear of making mistakes.
Beyond the classroom, Ms. Casey has also been a huge support when it comes to planning for life after high school. She actively helps students with college and university applications, guiding us through essays, deadlines, and the overall process. For many of us, including myself, this can feel overwhelming and confusing. Having someone who takes the time to explain each step and offer encouragement has made a significant difference. She not only teaches us how to write, but how to present ourselves and our goals with confidence.
Beyond academics, Ms. Casey also changed how I view obstacles in my life. She often reminded our class that setbacks do not define us, but how we respond to them does. That message stayed with me. I started to see challenges, whether in school or in life, as opportunities to grow rather than reasons to doubt myself. This shift in mindset has helped me become more resilient and more willing to step outside of my comfort zone.
Ms. Casey’s belief in me came at a time when I needed it most. As I began thinking about my future and the goals I want to achieve, her encouragement gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward, even when things feel uncertain. She showed me that success is not about being perfect, but about putting in the effort, believing in yourself, and continuing to grow.
Overall, Ms. Casey influenced me not only as a student, but as a person. She helped me find confidence in my abilities, taught me to embrace challenges, and reminded me that my voice has value. Because of her, I now approach my life with more determination, resilience, and belief in what I can achieve.

The movie that has had the greatest impact on my life is “Good Will Hunting”. The film follows Will Hunting, a young man with extraordinary intelligence who works as a janitor at a prestigious university. Despite his natural talent, he struggles to see a future for himself beyond what he has always known. He is surrounded by opportunity, yet feels disconnected from it, unsure of whether he truly belongs in a world that seems so different from his own.
What impacted me most about this movie is how it shows that potential does not always lead to success without confidence and self-belief. Will has the ability to achieve incredible things, but he is held back by doubt and fear of failure. Watching his journey made me reflect on how easy it is to underestimate yourself or feel like certain paths are meant for other people. It reminded me that sometimes the biggest barriers are not visible, but internal.
I also relate to the quiet struggles that are not always seen on the surface. Growing up, I have experienced financial challenges that made certain goals feel distant or uncertain. There have been moments where I questioned whether I would be able to reach the same opportunities as others, or if I would have to take a different path because of circumstances beyond my control. Like Will, I have had to learn how to push past those thoughts and not let them define what I believe is possible for my future.
Another powerful theme in the film is the importance of having people who believe in you. Throughout the story, Will encounters individuals who recognize his potential and challenge him to step outside of his comfort zone. Their encouragement plays a major role in helping him begin to see himself differently. This resonated with me because it highlights how life-changing it can be when someone takes the time to support and guide you, especially during moments of uncertainty.
The movie also emphasizes that your past does not define your future. Will’s experiences shaped him, but they did not have to limit him. As he begins to confront his fears and let go of the idea that he is not worthy of something greater, he starts to move forward. This message stayed with me because it reinforces the idea that growth requires courage the courage to take chances, to step into unfamiliar spaces, and to believe that you are capable of more than where you started.
Overall, Good Will Hunting taught me that success is not just about ability, but about mindset, resilience, and the willingness to embrace opportunity even when it feels uncomfortable. It encouraged me to push past doubt, trust in my potential, and remain determined in pursuing my goals. The lessons from this film continue to shape how I approach challenges and how I see my future.

My name is Chloe, and I am passionate about pursuing a career as a dental hygienist. I plan to attend either Alcorn State University or Baton Rouge Community College to achieve this goal. I have always been drawn to healthcare because I enjoy helping others and making a tangible difference in people’s lives. As a dental hygienist, I hope to promote oral health and education, ensuring that patients feel confident, comfortable, and informed about their dental care. I believe that healthy smiles can improve self-esteem, overall well-being, and even opportunities in life, and I want to provide compassionate care that makes a real difference in my community.
In addition to my career goals, I am dedicated to serving others through volunteer work. I regularly volunteer at my local food bank, helping families access essential resources. This experience has shown me the value of empathy, patience, and teamwork. Seeing the difference I can make in someone’s day, even through small acts of service, has strengthened my desire to give back on a larger scale. I believe that combining my professional skills with a mindset of service will allow me to contribute positively not only to individual patients but to my community as a whole.
I have faced challenges along the way, as I am dyslexic. Reading and processing information can be more difficult for me than for my peers, but I have learned to approach learning with creativity, persistence, and determination. I break tasks into smaller steps, ask for help when needed, and use tools that support my learning. These strategies have not only helped me succeed academically but have also taught me valuable life skills such as problem-solving, patience, and self-advocacy. Overcoming dyslexia has reinforced my belief that challenges are opportunities to grow and that determination can overcome obstacles.
My experiences have shaped me into someone who is resilient, compassionate, and committed to making a positive impact in the world. Through my career as a dental hygienist, I plan to educate patients about oral health, help them maintain healthy smiles, and improve their overall quality of life. Beyond my career, I hope to continue volunteering and finding ways to serve my community. I am determined to use my skills, experiences, and compassion to make a meaningful difference, and I hope to inspire others to see that challenges do not define them they strengthen them. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship.

I have always known that if I wanted a different future, I would have to be the one to chase it. As the first person in my household to try to go to college, I carry a deep sense of purpose when I think about my future. Going to college means more to me than just earning a degree it means creating opportunities that my family has never had before and building a life that reflects hard work, faith, and determination. My personal experiences have taught me to keep pushing forward, even when things feel uncertain, and that mindset has shaped both my goals and the person I am becoming.
Education is very important to me because I see it as the key to creating a better future. After high school, I plan to attend either Alcorn State University or Baton Rouge Community College to continue my education and pursue a career as a dental hygienist. I am interested in dental hygiene because I want to work in a field where I can help people in a direct and meaningful way. I love the idea of being able to improve someone’s health, confidence, and comfort through care. To me, a career should be about more than just making a living it should also allow you to make a difference in people’s lives.
Outside of school, I am interested in building a stable future for myself and becoming someone who can positively impact others. I value personal growth, responsibility, and learning how to become the best version of myself. One of the ways I have put those values into action is by being a regular volunteer at the food bank. Volunteering has shown me how important it is to serve others and to be willing to help where there is a need. It has also reminded me that even small acts of kindness and service can make a big difference in someone’s life.
If I could start my own charity, it would focus on helping first generation students and families in underserved communities. My mission would be to provide support, guidance, and resources to young people who may feel unsure about college, career paths, or their future. I would want to serve students who may not have a lot of direction, encouragement, or access to opportunities. Since I know what it feels like to be the first in your household trying to take this step, I would want my charity to help students feel less alone and more confident in their potential.
The volunteers in my charity would help by mentoring students, assisting with college and scholarship applications, offering career guidance, and helping families connect with important resources. They could also help organize school supply drives, food assistance events, and workshops that teach life skills and confidence. My goal would be to create a space where people feel supported, encouraged, and empowered to build a better future. If I can make a positive impact on the world, I want it to be by helping others believe in themselves and reminding them that where they come from does not have to define where they can go.

For me, going to college is about more than getting a degree—it is about changing the future of my family. Being the first person in my household to try to go to college means everything to me because it represents hope, growth, and the opportunity to create a better life. I come from a background that has taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and staying strong even when life feels uncertain. Those experiences have shaped who I am and have given me a deep sense of purpose. I know that success is not always handed to you, and because of that, I have learned to appreciate every opportunity I have to work toward something bigger than myself.
One of my biggest goals in life is to continue my education and become a dental hygienist. I am passionate about this career because it would allow me to help others in a meaningful and personal way. I believe that healthcare is one of the most powerful ways to serve people because it allows you to improve not only their physical health, but also their confidence and overall well-being. Something as simple as helping someone feel better about their smile can make a lasting difference in their life. I want to be someone who makes people feel comfortable, cared for, and respected, because sometimes kindness and compassion can mean just as much as the treatment itself.
The principles of love, faith, and community service are deeply connected to the way I want to live my life and build my future. To me, love means showing up for people with kindness, patience, and compassion. It means treating others with care, even in small moments, and using my future career to make people feel valued. I believe that if you truly want to make a positive impact on the world, it starts with how you treat the people right in front of you. Whether that is through helping someone feel more confident, offering encouragement, or simply being a source of comfort, I want my life to reflect love in action.
Faith has also been a major part of what keeps me motivated. My faith reminds me to keep going even when things feel difficult and to trust that my journey has a purpose. It has taught me that challenges do not define me—they prepare me. There have been moments in life where the future felt uncertain, but faith has helped me stay grounded and hopeful. It reminds me that where I come from does not limit where I can go. Instead, it pushes me to keep striving for the future I know I am capable of creating.
Community service, to me, is not only about volunteering in big ways, but also about being willing to help wherever I am needed. I believe serving others can look like offering support, sharing kindness, being dependable, and using your gifts to make life better for someone else. In the future, I hope to make a positive impact by helping others through dental care, being a role model for younger people in my community, and proving that determination and faith can open doors. My goal is not only to succeed for myself, but to use that success to help others and inspire those who may feel like their dreams are out of reach. Thank you for considering me.

My personal experiences have played a big role in shaping my sense of purpose and the goals I have for my future. Growing up, I have seen how hard life can be when opportunities are limited, and that has pushed me to want more for myself. Those experiences have taught me to work hard, stay determined, and keep going even when things feel difficult. They have also shown me how important it is to build a future that is stable, meaningful, and centered around helping others. That is a big reason why I want to become a dental hygienist and continue my education.
A huge part of my motivation comes from being the first person in my household to try to go to college. That means so much to me because I know I am trying to do something bigger than just earning a degree I am trying to change the direction of my future and make my family proud. I want to prove to myself and others that where you come from does not have to limit where you can go. My purpose is to create a better life, help people through my career, and show that hard work can truly pay off.
