A song that I’ve always felt a very strong pull to called Least Favorite Only Child by Leanna Firestone. The song is basically the title, the singer feels as though she is her mothers least favorite child despite being her only one. She sings of how she’d do these things to get attention and how she feels like no one would care if she just up and disappeared one day. This is a message I can relate to as, while I’m not an only child, it’s hard to imagine I’m anywhere near being the favorite. I feel as if I’m invisible if I don’t make the perfect grades or if I’m not constantly fighting for scraps of attention. I can relate to the feelings of hopelessness at the beginning of the song. The end of the song is sort of uplifting as she sings about how, maybe, everything will be ok if she just gives herself more time. She sings that, even if she doesn’t like herself now, she has the rest of her life to feel and be different than how she is now. It’s a very meaningful song to me as I can relate to the sad parts of it and the uplifting ending gives me hope for a better future.

The question as to what my favorite book, after having read so many throughout the years, is a hard one to answer. There are the older books such as the Percy Jackson and Harry Potter books that shaped a large part of my childhood, as well as the newer ones that have captured my attention now. I suppose if I had to pick one, I'd have to go with The Giver and any of the other books connected with its story. The Giver was a book I found by chance in the library of my high school. It's a book that, when I read it, I had never heard of it before and I had simply picked it up out of curiosity. I'm glad that I did, as the story contained within its pages has stuck with me throughout the years. The story of it is simple in thought but brilliant in its execution. The protagonist, Jonas, is a young boy that lives in a dystopian world where everything has become the same in the interest of "keeping the community safe". To summarize the story, Jonas is picked to become the next Reciever of his community, a person tasked with gaining knowledge of the past, before the sameness of the present. Instead of doing what was expected of him, gaining the memories and carrying on the legacy of the past Receiver, he makes the decision to try and change his community and bring back all the experiences that were taken from them. It's a story that had drawn me back to it many times before. With the world the way it is today, the story is even more important now than ever. It's a tale we can all learn from and that is why it's my favorite.
