Growing up in Nigeria, I witnessed firsthand how cybercrime disrupted lives and eroded trust in financial systems. Among these incidents, one stands out vividly—when my mother became a victim of bank fraud. It was a moment that not only exposed the vulnerabilities of digital systems but also ignited my passion for business and cybersecurity. Today, as a first-generation college student pursuing a degree in business and cybersecurity, I am committed to using my education to combat these threats and protect communities from the devastating impacts of cybercrime in financial institutions. The day my mother was defrauded started like any other. She had received a phone call from someone claiming to be a representative of her bank, asking for sensitive account details to “resolve an issue.” Trusting their authority, she shared the information. Hours later, her account was drained, leaving her in shock and disbelief. Watching her try to recover from that loss was painful. The bank offered little support, and the burden fell on her to rebuild what she had worked so hard to save. That experience left an indelible mark on me, sparking questions about why such crimes were so prevalent and how they could be prevented. In Nigeria, cybercrime has become a growing epidemic, with schemes ranging from phishing attacks to identity theft affecting countless individuals. These crimes often target vulnerable populations, exploiting their lack of awareness about digital security. Witnessing these incidents made me realize that cybersecurity is not just a technical issue—it’s a societal one. It became clear to me that protecting people from these threats requires more than advanced technology; it demands education, vigilance, and a commitment to justice. My journey to pursue cybersecurity began with this understanding. As the first person in my family to attend college, I knew that higher education was my opportunity to turn personal challenges into meaningful solutions. Majoring in business and cybersecurity allowed me to combine my analytical skills with a broader understanding of how cyber threats impact organizations and individuals alike. Through coursework in data analytics, ethical hacking, and risk management, I’ve gained the tools to address complex security challenges. Beyond academics, my passion for cybersecurity has been fueled by real-world experiences. During an internship analyzing data on human trafficking and cyber-enabled crimes, I saw how technology can be both a weapon and a shield. These insights deepened my resolve to use my skills to protect not only financial systems but also the people who rely on them. For me, business and cybersecurity is more than a career—it’s a mission to create safer digital spaces for vulnerable populations, particularly in underserved communities like the one I come from. My mother’s experience showed me the devastating personal toll of cybercrime, and it motivates me to ensure that others don’t have to endure the same. As I look to the future, I envision a world where technology empowers rather than exploits. By becoming a leader in cybersecurity, I hope to bridge the gap between technical innovation and human protection, building systems that are not only secure but also accessible to all. In doing so, I aim to honor my roots and contribute to a safer, more equitable world.

As I watched my mother work three jobs to keep food on the table, I learned that perseverance could transform even the bleakest circumstances into hope. Growing up, I saw dreams deferred around me, but I chose to hold onto mine like a lifeline, knowing education was my escape. In my earliest memories, I recall the constant hum of struggle—whether it was watching my family juggle bills or seeing opportunities pass us by because we couldn’t afford them. I grew up in an environment where basic survival often took precedence over dreams. Despite these hardships, my family instilled in me the belief that education could break the cycle of poverty. My mother, who worked tirelessly to provide for us, always emphasized that knowledge was the key to unlocking a better future. Her sacrifices inspired me to excel academically, even when resources were limited and the odds seemed stacked against me. Being raised in poverty gave me a unique perspective on the systemic inequities that disproportionately affect Black communities. I saw firsthand how lack of access to quality education, healthcare, and financial stability perpetuates generational struggles. Rather than becoming discouraged, I used these experiences as fuel to succeed. They sharpened my focus and deepened my resolve to not only overcome my circumstances but also to help others do the same. Attending an HBCU is a critical step in my journey toward creating lasting change. HBCUs represent a legacy of Black excellence, resilience, and leadership. They provide a space where I can embrace my cultural identity and learn from those who share similar stories. More than just an institution, an HBCU is a community that understands my challenges and empowers me to rise above them. This environment will allow me to refine my skills, nurture my dreams, and prepare to make a meaningful impact in the world. My vision for the future is to build a legacy that disrupts cycles of poverty and uplifts marginalized communities. I plan to use my education and experiences to create opportunities for others, particularly young Black girls who, like me, may not see a clear path forward. Whether through mentorship programs, policy advocacy, or initiatives in technology and cybersecurity, I am determined to be a beacon of hope and change. What I’ve been through has taught me that our past does not define us—it equips us. My hardships became the foundation of my strength, and my struggles became the catalyst for my ambition. By attending an HBCU, I am not only honoring the legacy of those who came before me but also paving the way for those who will follow. My story is one of perseverance, and my future will be a testament to the power of resilience, education, and the unwavering belief that we can build something greater for the generations to come.

Not all heroes wear capes. Some were born extraordinary, while others earned it. Being a hero takes more than just dedication to achieve a desired goal. To be heroic comes with consequences, problem-solving, starving distractions, and facing your focus. Everyone has a hero, and what defines who a hero is to one person might differ from another. If there were no heroes in the world, no one would be celebrated for their achievements and consequentially, there will be no change. Heroes are usually thought to be ancient historical figures or pop culture heroes like Wonder Woman and superman, but my hero is my mom. Leadership, bravery, and most importantly self-sacrifice are the true qualities of a hero that I'll emphasize. One of the few people with the embodiment of these qualities is my mum. Growing up, I witnessed my mum take on responsibilities even in the absence of a traditional family head; my dad. In certain cultures, men are predominantly breadwinners in the family but through her devotion and with our livelihood in mind, there was no lack in his absence. In her dealings with others and communication, she demonstrated astounding leadership. My mom is a hero because she embodies servant leadership. Her love for her family, friends, local community, and the world at large never seems to run out. My mom is a model of leadership through her influence on the lives of my siblings and me. By listening to and grooming children with healthy expectations, my mum has taught me a lot of things I now know like the importance of education among other things. In the face of challenging youth and having other siblings who grew up with good values inculcated into them, I know who my hero is. This has also given me the drive and courage to withstand challenging situations and the ability to help others selflessly while at it. I can directly compare my experience with my mum who remained willing to answer all our needs even as growing children. She influenced me to pursue my career with willingness and dedication. The most essential quality of a hero is self-sacrifice. The ability to remain selfless regardless of the prize is an enviable quality that only true heroes possess. Putting others first in an act to assist them differentiates heroes from other people. I would say parents are selfless when it comes to their children but mothers are exceptionally selfless. However, selflessness in the context of societal expectations of a mum shouldn't be a compliment but I would call my mum selfless because of her achievements at work even while helping her children be successful. As children, many people watch their mother's selflessness and daily sacrifices, and learn that we’re all called to perform these acts of kindness for others. Mother's dedicate their time and resources to the well-being of their children and this is one of the reasons I love my mom. Finally, in this day and age people effortlessly call those with some courage, an achievement, or award heroes. However, in my view, heroes must develop certain qualities like leadership, bravery, and sacrifice to be called one. To solve problems by dedicating time and effort to a selfless cause is a feat only some can perform. In my analysis, I made reference to my mum and one of the reasons that made her my hero was that she achieved all other things while selflessly grooming her children. I am grateful for the privilege to have been taught by my mum because not all heroes wear capes
    FAR Impact Scholarship
During my time in high school, I strived to make an impact in my local community through a combination of academic driven excellence, technology, and leadership. One of the most impactful endeavors I've been involved in is the creation of a community-oriented educational platform that bridged educational gaps in our neighborhood, leading to improved academic performance and fostering a stronger sense of community. My involvement in this initiative began when I noticed a disparity in educational resources and support within our local community. Many students lacked access to in-class tutoring, adequate educational materials, and guidance, which hindered their academic progress. Recognizing the potential to make a difference, I decided to combine my academic skills, technological proficiency, and leadership abilities to address this issue. First, I formed a team of like-minded individuals, including teachers, students, and local professionals, who shared my passion for education and community development. As the leader of this team, I played a central role in organizing our efforts and maintaining a clear vision for our project. My academic background was instrumental in designing the curriculum and educational materials we offered through our platform. Leveraging my knowledge in various subjects, I created free, high-quality educational content, covering topics from mathematics to literature. This content was designed to cater to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds and educational levels. The use of technology played a pivotal role in our initiative's success. I harnessed digital tools to create an accessible online platform where students could access resources, watch video lessons, and engage in interactive quizzes and discussions. This technological approach allowed us to reach a wider audience and ensured that all students, regardless of their socio-economic status, had equal access to educational support. My leadership abilities were put to the test in coordinating the various stakeholders involved in this project. I communicated our vision to the team and motivated them to contribute their time and expertise. I also engaged with local schools and parents to promote our initiative, garnering their support and participation. The results of our efforts have been nothing short of remarkable. Our educational platform has reached over 500 students in our local community, and we have received heartwarming feedback from both students and parents. Academic performance has improved significantly, and we've seen an increase in high school graduation rates. Additionally, the sense of community has grown stronger as students, teachers, and parents have come together to support one another. This project is profoundly significant for several reasons. Firstly, it highlights the transformative power of education and how it can break down socio-economic barriers. Seeing students who were once struggling academically now thriving and pursuing their dreams has been incredibly fulfilling. Secondly, this initiative has reinforced the idea that leadership is not about one person's efforts but about uniting a team to achieve a common goal. My role in this project has taught me the importance of effective communication, delegation, and motivation in driving change. Lastly, the project has ingrained in me a sense of responsibility towards my community. It has shown me that even as an individual, I can make a substantial impact when I leverage my academic skills, technology, and leadership abilities for the greater good. In conclusion, my contribution to my local community through the creation of an educational platform has been a significant endeavor. I have helped bridge educational gaps, improve academic performance, and foster a stronger sense of community. This project has not only made a positive impact on the lives of many but has also enriched my own understanding of the power of education and effective leadership.

In the bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria, I was born into a world filled with dreams, aspirations, and, at the same time, a myriad of challenges. Raised by a single mother who struggled tirelessly to make ends meet, I learned the value of resilience and the power of education early on. My immigrant experience, one that brought me from Lagos to the United States, has profoundly impacted my ability to attain my educational goals. Leaving behind the familiar sights, sounds, and culture of Nigeria was a decision that came with both hope and heartache. One of the most significant obstacles I faced was the financial burden of pursuing higher education in the United States. The cost of tuition, living expenses, and textbooks loomed like an insurmountable mountain. I juggled multiple jobs, often working long hours, to cover these expenses. The physical and emotional toll this took on me was immense, but I was determined to persevere. My experience has also shaped my educational goals in unique ways. It instilled in me a sense of purpose and drive that I might not have had if I had not left my home country. The struggle to secure scholarships, find mentors, and network within my new community became instrumental in my pursuit of education.Despite the hardships, my experiences enriched my perspective and broadened my horizons. I became more adaptable, open-minded, and culturally aware. These qualities were not only essential for survival but also for excelling in an educational environment that celebrated diversity. The challenges I faced as a student, while formidable, were also instrumental in shaping my character. I learned the importance of perseverance, resilience, and the power of tenacity. Every setback only served as a catalyst to strive harder for success. It became apparent that education was not just a personal endeavor; it was a transformative force that could break barriers and bridge divides. As I progressed through my educational journey, I began to see the fruits of my labor. Scholarships and financial aid made education more accessible, and the network I built introduced me to mentors who guided me along the way. My parents often do their best to cater to my five other siblings but I realized that to make a notable difference, an education would catalyze my career growth. As a sophomore, I am enthusiastic about learning and honing the professional skills of a security specialist and business enthusiast. I plan to develop my skills In security operations, leadership, diplomacy, and team management among other skills I’ll be learning. My dream to become a cybersecurity analyst started to see the light again with my college admission last year. It came as a surprise to everyone in my family and neighborhood knowing that I have always been interested in making it into college. I am beyond excited to be continuing my education because people often make disparaging remarks whenever I mention it. A change only happens when people decide to take a stand and strategize. I have learned that working on myself has been my greatest asset and I wouldn’t be at this point in my life without devotion to study and management of my time doing profitable activities. Despite the numerous challenges I face, I remain dedicated to standing out in the crowd and relevantly express my desire to succeed even in unfriendly situations. It is a dream for me and I can finally stop sleeping but not until I reach my goal. My learning wouldn’t stop after my Bachelor's because I want to gain exemplary knowledge and experience to pursue my career in Business and Cybersecurity up to a doctorate level. It is with great pleasure that I write to show gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this scholarship pool alongside other credible applicants. With my scholarship, I would stand a great chance at offering assistance and support to the young generation by starting boot camps and training for the emerging youth. Equipping them with skills necessary to build entrepreneurial strength reliant on their dynamic abilities and to effect change and technical knowledge in the ever-changing society we live in. It is my ultimate goal to provide scholarships to students who, just like me, lack financial assistance but have the desire to graduate. In this digital age, I want every youth my age and younger to participate actively, learning core and soft skills, as well as building a portfolio that is peculiar to their interests and passion for learning. Without support, only a little is achievable and I want to give hope to others with dreams as I have been given.

As someone who has witnessed the profound impact of this crisis on individuals, families, and communities, I believe it's imperative to address this issue comprehensively on multiple levels: national, state, school, community, family, and personal. At the national level, a significant step would be to reform mental healthcare accessibility and affordability. The implementation of the Affordable Care Act was a positive stride towards this, but there's more to be done. Strengthening insurance coverage for mental health services and enforcing parity laws to ensure equitable coverage for mental and physical health is vital. Increased federal funding for mental health research can also lead to innovative treatments and prevention strategies. On the state level, improving mental health services should be a priority. States can invest in mental health infrastructure, expand Medicaid to cover more individuals, and create telehealth programs to increase accessibility, especially in rural areas. Implementing mental health education programs in schools can foster early awareness and reduce stigma. Within schools, comprehensive mental health programs can make a significant difference. These programs should focus on prevention, early intervention, and support. Trained counselors should be available to students, and teachers should receive mental health literacy training. Promoting a positive school environment and reducing bullying can also contribute to students' well-being. At the community level, we should foster an environment of support and inclusivity. Communities can organize mental health awareness campaigns to destigmatize seeking help. Establishing local mental health clinics and crisis hotlines can provide immediate assistance to those in need. Peer support groups and community centers can offer spaces for individuals to connect and share their experiences. On the family level, open and non-judgmental communication about mental health is essential. Parents should educate themselves about signs of mental health issues and seek professional help if needed. Creating a nurturing and accepting family environment can reduce stressors contributing to mental health challenges. At the personal level, self-awareness and self-care are paramount. Individuals can prioritize mental health by seeking therapy or counseling when needed, practicing mindfulness and stress reduction techniques, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Engaging in hobbies, exercise, and social activities can boost mental well-being. In conclusion, addressing America's mental health crisis requires a multifaceted approach. We must strive for national policies that prioritize mental health, improve access to care, and fund research. States, schools, communities, and families should work together to create supportive environments, reduce stigma, and provide accessible resources. At the personal level, self-care and seeking help when needed are crucial. By combining these efforts, we can make substantial progress in addressing this crisis and improving the mental well-being of our nation.

    Lost Dreams Awaken Scholarship
Returning to school after a period of absence or challenges is a journey that embodies the spirit of recovery. To me, recovery represents resilience, growth, and the pursuit of dreams. First and foremost, recovery symbolizes resilience. Life is filled with unforeseen obstacles, and sometimes, they lead us away from our academic pursuits. Whether it's a health setback, personal crisis, or any other hurdle, the decision to return to normalcy reflects the inner strength to bounce back. It's about not letting adversity define one's path, but rather forging ahead with determination. Furthermore, recovery signifies personal growth. The time away often fosters introspection and self-discovery. It allows us to reassess our goals, values, and passions. We acknowledge that we have evolved, and we are eager to apply our newfound wisdom to our life. It's an opportunity for self-improvement, both academically and personally. Lastly, recovery embodies the pursuit of dreams. It is often driven by a desire for a better future, be it a career change, higher qualifications, or simply the pursuit of knowledge. It's a declaration that we refuse to be held back by circumstances, and we are committed to reaching our aspirations. In conclusion, recovery is a testament to resilience, personal growth, and the pursuit of dreams. It's a deeply personal journey, marked by the courage to overcome obstacles, the wisdom to embrace change, and the determination to achieve one's goals. It embodies the belief that education is a lifelong journey worth pursuing, no matter the challenges we face.
