Bio

I graduated from Riverside High School in Chattaroy, Washington in June 2024 with a 3.2 GPA. During my senior year, I did Running Start through BYU-Idaho, first exploring mechanical engineering then data science. After graduation, I attended BYU-Idaho from 2024-2025, continuing with data science and maintaining a 3.9 GPA before deciding to leave. Technology has always been a huge part of my life. In my free time, I work on computer projects and play bass guitar. When ChatGPT came out, I was immediately hooked and dove into learning everything I could about it. I've been using AI to help with my learning and projects, and it's really changed how I approach and solve problems. My path to IT has been winding. I started with mechanical engineering but realized I only enjoyed the CAD part. Then I tried data science, thinking it would lead to AI, but statistics didn't click. Through that exploration, I figured out what I actually love—building and managing systems, working with databases, and the technical side of IT. Community service matters to me. As a Christian, helping others has been incredibly rewarding. In high school, I took on fixing around 500 broken Chromebooks so students had what they needed. Right now, I'm planning to study Information Technology, possibly at the University of Texas. I'm working on getting the funds together. My goal is to build a career working with the systems and tech that keep everything running. I'm hunting for scholarships to make it happen. I want to do meaningful work that makes a real difference. It's ambitious, but I'm ready.

This year was my last year of high school. To end off this year, I decided to do some community service at the school. I started in April and ended and the end of the school year or June of 2024. I ended up working for IT fixing all of the broken chromebooks in the school. I probably fixed around 800 of them and got really good speed. I did that 3 hours each day and even skipped lunch to help them fix even more. When there was not a chromebook to fix, I would go and clean up the room a little bit. The school loved me helping them out so they wrote me a letter of recommendation which was really nice of them. I did not have to do any of that. I could have been doing other things like gaming or chilling out with friends. I loved helping out the school. If the school is helping me out with my education, I should be helping them back. I made a major difference at that school taking lots off of their shoulders so that they can do other beneficial things for other students instead of fixing students broken computers. Now they have time to improve the schools security to keep students safe. After giving back to the community at the high school, I realized that community service is really important. It definitely does strengthen you and it also feels really nice doing it. The school was very thankful with me getting lots of thank yous every day. When I go to college this fall, I plan on doing more community service in the area because I know it makes a big difference in my life and their lives. I will look for volunteer work at the college and will try my best to make a difference. I will include the letter of recommendation in this essay to show how much this all impacted them. May 25th, 2024 To Whom It May Concern, TEAM RIVERSIDE SCHOOL DISTRICT BELONG, BOND, BELIEVE I am writing to recommend Tyler Olsen for any opportunities or positions that require a passion for technology. As the Technology Director for Riverside School District, I have been his direct supervisor while he is working in our office for 3 hrs a day during his 2nd semester of his senior year. Tyler quickly learned how to replace parts and update chrome devices that are vital for us to cycle back into the schools. Throughout his time in our department, Tyler has gained the knowledge needed for the tasks that we requested him to assist with. Tyler asks questions when he needs to, he also is a self starter that can easily find another project to work on when he has completed his current task. in: addition to his technical expertise, Tyler possesses great communication skills and a strong work ethic. He interacts with the technology staff members with professionalism, asking for assistance when needed. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information or clarification regarding Tyler's time with our department. I endorse him for any opportunities that may arise, and I am confident that he will continue to impress with his outstanding abilities and commitment. Sincerely, Malissa If you want the actual letter of recommendation, please contact me and I will send it. Overall, giving back to your community helps many people and also strengthens the people that do it. I hope that everyone will do community service and see it's impacts on your life and the lives of others.
    Nintendo Super Fan Scholarship
My favorite game to play from Nintendo is Super Smash Bros. Back around 2018, I played Smash Bros for the first time. I was at a youth group activity where everyone brought their gaming consoles. One person had the GameCube and was playing Super Smash Bros Melee on it. I asked them if I could join and they said yes. I grabbed the controller and selected Mario because I was a big fan of him. When I played it for the first time, I loved it! I kept trying to play and learn but I needed to let someone else have a try. A couple of years later I got the Nintendo Switch. I ended up getting Super Smash Bros Ultimate on there and I was very excited! I played that game for several hours each day for the next couple of weeks. I had friends over multiple times to come and play it with me. I felt that the game added a connection between me and my friends and gave us something to do. I didn't have the same amount of fun without my friend because It felt like I was accomplishing anything. Overall, I loved playing Smash Bros and I still play it to this day.
