Well, I must start by saying that attending an HBCU was not my first choice for attending a university. I originally wanted to go to a bigger name school for athletics but then Rochester Institute of Technology caught my eye the most. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this university-based solely on my financial situation, although I was accepted into the college. I was prompted by my IKIC advisor, Karim Jackson, to try to apply to more local schools that are also more affordable instead of going after the schools I originally wanted to attend. Central State University was one of the options that were presented to me, and I am happy to say that I attend this University. Seeing the culture at this school made me realize that this is the place that I wanted to be the whole time during my collegiate career. I did not want to just be another number at a regular institution, but rather be somebody important and mean something to the school's population, and I am happy to say that Central State University has personally made me feel like the latter rather than the former. As with everything and everywhere, there are many things I would change about the school that many students would agree is not with the heart of the students but aside from that, I would say Central State University generally has a home feeling. I often spoke with others getting their opinions on how their time spent at Central went, and most can agree that Central has a way of not making you want to leave no matter how bleak things may seem at the school. It will always draw us back we can come back. What exactly does social justice mean to me? I would say that social justice is just as it says in the name, justice for all socials. Let me explain what I mean, we all deserve/ don't deserve things so who can tell another person what they are or are not able to do? There are limitations such as the government, our parents, teachers, etc. but that is not the problem, the problem comes in when there are everyday people that feel as though they are granted more permission than another person based on the fact of what their social status is. When someone gets to the point where they feel they are more entitled to something than someone else is, that is where social injustice comes into play. I have not given too much back to my community which is something I currently am trying to do but it is hard for me to find the opportunities I want. I can talk with young people in my life and always remind them to, first of all, keep their focus on God, their families and loved ones, and their schooling in that order exactly. I believe that if I can teach the younger generation good morals, maybe they will grow up to remember what I shared with them, and hopefully, they will be the ones to make the biggest difference not myself.
