Charlene K. Howard Chogo Scholarship
My name is Cheyene McCarty, and I’ve always known my purpose in life: to care for animals and speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. I was raised on a small farm, where animals were not just part of the scenery — they were family. As I grew older, that bond only deepened. I started rescuing animals in need, giving them shelter, food, love, and in many cases, their first real chance at life. That passion has now grown into a lifelong goal: to become a licensed veterinarian and open my own animal care business that doubles as a rescue and sanctuary.
I currently operate a small farm that functions as a self-made sanctuary. I’ve taken in dogs, cats, chickens, a miniature pony, and other animals, many of which came from heartbreaking circumstances. Some were neglected, others abandoned or ill, but all of them were given a second chance through care, patience, and love. I’ve learned how to bandage wounds, bottle-feed newborns, recognize symptoms of common illnesses, and more — not in a classroom, but out of necessity and commitment. These real-life experiences are what have driven me to pursue formal veterinary training. I want the skills and knowledge to do even more for the animals who need me most.
My dream goes beyond becoming a veterinarian. I plan to open a veterinary clinic that also serves as a safe space for rescued animals. I want it to be a place where no animal is turned away because of financial hardship, breed, or condition. Too often, animals go without care simply because their owners can’t afford services or don’t have access to a compassionate provider nearby. I want to fill that gap — especially in rural communities — and make sure every animal gets the chance to live a healthy and loved life.
In addition to offering medical care, I hope to use my platform to educate the public about animal welfare, disease prevention, and proper animal husbandry. I want to hold workshops, partner with local shelters, and eventually even mentor young people who dream of working in animal care just like I do. By leading with compassion and integrity, I hope to inspire others to treat animals not as property, but as sentient beings worthy of respect and kindness.
This scholarship would help me take the next step toward making that vision a reality. Veterinary school is a rigorous and costly journey, but one I am fully committed to. Every course I complete, every hour I study, brings me closer to a future where I can offer real, life-saving help to the animals I care so deeply about.
I’ve never given up on an animal, and I won’t give up on this dream. I believe that with hard work, empathy, and education, I can make a real difference in the world — one animal, one person, and one community at a time.
This Woman's Worth Scholarship
I am worth the dreams I aspire to achieve because I’ve already begun living them in every possible way. Becoming a veterinarian and opening my own animal care business are not just future goals — they are reflections of who I am at my core. I’ve devoted my life to caring for animals, long before I had the title or degree. I’ve rescued, rehabilitated, and loved animals who had nowhere else to go, building a small sanctuary on my farm from the ground up. Each life I’ve helped has strengthened my belief that I’m capable and worthy of becoming the person I dream of being.
Growing up, I learned the value of kindness, empathy, and resilience. I was adopted by my biological grandparents, who I call my parents, and I watched them embody sacrifice and unconditional love every day. Those same values have shaped the way I care for animals — with patience, compassion, and dedication. I’ve taken in cats, dogs, chickens, a miniature pony, and many others, some in critical condition or abandoned, and I’ve done everything I could to nurse them back to health. It’s not easy, but I never give up on them — just like I won’t give up on my dreams.
I’ve also faced my share of struggles. I was bullied for being different — for being kind, outgoing, and caring deeply when others didn’t understand. But instead of letting that break me, I used it as fuel to push forward. I found strength in my uniqueness and turned it into purpose. I graduated from Arkansas Virtual Academy, which gave me the space to be myself and focus on what truly matters to me: helping animals and preparing for a future in veterinary medicine.
I believe I’m worth my dreams because I put in the work every single day. Whether I’m studying, volunteering, or caring for the animals already in my life, I give my all. My dream business isn’t about making money — it’s about creating a space where animals are safe, respected, and loved, and where their owners feel supported and understood. I want to provide services grounded in compassion and quality, leveraging hands-on experience with the education I will receive in veterinary school.
More than anything, I know I’m worth my dreams because I’ve already proven I’m willing to sacrifice for them. I’ve spent nights up with sick animals, given my time, energy, and money to ensure they had a fighting chance, and I’ve never once thought of quitting. My dream is bigger than me — it’s about making a difference in the world, one animal at a time. That’s why I believe I’m worthy of it — not because it’s easy, but because I’ve shown I’ll never stop working until I get there.
Learner Calculus Scholarship
Calculus is often called the "mathematics of change," and this is a perfect description of why it is so essential to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. Whether we are exploring the natural world, designing cutting-edge technology, or solving complex problems, calculus provides the foundational tools necessary to describe, predict, and understand how systems evolve and behave over time.
In science, calculus is indispensable in areas like physics, chemistry, and biology. For example, calculus allows us to model the motion of objects and the forces acting upon them. Isaac Newton’s laws of motion, which describe how objects move under various forces, rely heavily on the principles of differentiation and integration. In chemistry, calculus is used to study rates of reaction and how substances interact with one another on a molecular level. In biology, calculus helps model the growth of populations, the spread of diseases, and the dynamics of ecosystems—giving scientists the ability to predict how these systems will evolve and how interventions might affect them.
Technology and computer science also depend on calculus in significant ways. For instance, in machine learning and artificial intelligence, optimization algorithms, which are central to training models and improving predictions, rely heavily on differential calculus. Calculus also plays a key role in computer graphics, where it is used to create realistic images and simulate the effects of light, shadow, and motion. Additionally, in the design and functioning of algorithms, calculus-based concepts are used to optimize processes, whether it's for search engines or network traffic management.
In engineering, calculus is crucial for designing and analyzing systems that involve change, whether in mechanical, electrical, civil, or aerospace engineering. Engineers use calculus to model how structures and materials will respond under stress, to optimize designs for efficiency, and to understand the flow of fluids in pipes or air over wings. For example, an aerospace engineer designing an aircraft must calculate the rate of change of the aircraft’s position, velocity, and acceleration—fundamental concepts rooted in calculus.
Finally, medicine and healthcare also benefit from the power of calculus. In medical imaging, calculus is used to process and analyze scans like MRIs and CT scans. It helps in the modeling of drug interactions within the human body and in predicting the growth of tumors or the spread of infectious diseases. Mathematical models based on calculus are crucial in designing effective treatments, understanding the dynamics of diseases, and optimizing medical resources.
In essence, calculus provides a framework for understanding and navigating change, which is central to the entire STEM landscape. It is not just a mathematical tool, but a way of thinking that has fueled some of the most groundbreaking innovations and discoveries in human history.
Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Math has always been my passion because it feels like a universal language that connects everything in the world. The elegance of math lies in its ability to explain complex phenomena with simplicity and clarity. Whether it's the beauty of geometric symmetry or the way equations describe patterns in nature, I am constantly fascinated by how math helps us understand the world around us.
One of the most thrilling aspects of math is its logical structure. Solving problems feels like unlocking a mystery, and every solution I discover adds to a deeper understanding of the world. I enjoy the challenge of approaching a problem from various angles and employing creative thinking to find a solution. Math is never about memorizing formulas or techniques—it's about developing a mindset that encourages curiosity, patience, and perseverance.
Math also teaches me resilience. Sometimes, the answer doesn't come right away, and that’s okay. Each mistake is an opportunity to learn and refine my approach. Over time, I've learned that math is not just about getting the "right" answer—it's about the process of thinking critically, testing hypotheses, and challenging myself.
Moreover, math connects to so many other fields, from science and technology to art and music. I love seeing how mathematical concepts can be applied to real-world problems, like how algorithms drive modern technology or how patterns in nature can be described by mathematical functions.
In short, math isn't just a subject for me—it's a way of thinking and a way of seeing the world. It gives me the tools to explore, understand, and create in ways that are both meaningful and deeply rewarding. I love math because it is infinite in its possibilities, and I am eager to continue exploring its endless beauty.

The Role of Animal Care and Welfare in Conservation and My Future Contributions
Animal care and welfare are essential pillars in the broader effort of conservation. True conservation is not just about saving species—it’s about ensuring that individual animals are treated with respect, dignity, and compassion. Proper animal care builds a bridge between humans and the natural world. When we care for animals—whether they are pets, farm animals, or wildlife—we foster empathy, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of the ecosystems we all share. Animal welfare ensures that conservation efforts are not only about numbers but about the quality of life for the creatures we are striving to protect.
Without a focus on welfare, conservation would be incomplete. Animals that are rescued from habitat destruction, illegal trade, or injury need specialized care to survive and thrive. Rehabilitation efforts, breeding programs, and even educational outreach programs all rely on a strong foundation of veterinary care, ethical treatment, and a commitment to the well-being of each animal involved. In many ways, caring for individual animals helps save entire species by raising public awareness, encouraging stewardship, and inspiring others to act.
As someone who is deeply passionate about animal care, I envision contributing to conservation efforts through a career in veterinary medicine combined with animal rescue and rehabilitation. My dream is to work both on the front lines—providing direct medical care to injured, orphaned, and endangered animals—and behind the scenes, educating communities about the importance of humane treatment and conservation ethics.
I want to create a sanctuary that serves not only as a place of healing for abused and neglected animals but also as an educational hub where people can learn about the connections between individual animal welfare and the health of our planet. I believe that by promoting compassion and hands-on care, we can inspire deeper commitment to protecting wildlife and preserving habitats.
In addition to working locally, I hope to eventually collaborate with conservation organizations on a larger scale, providing veterinary support for wildlife rehabilitation projects and endangered species programs. Whether it's saving one injured animal or helping protect an entire population, I want my work to reflect the belief that every life matters and that true conservation starts with compassion at the individual level.
Through my future degree in veterinary medicine and my lifelong dedication to animal care, I am committed to making a positive impact in the world of conservation—one life, one heart, and one story at a time.

Why I Chose This Career Path and How a Degree Will Impact My Life
I chose the career path of veterinary medicine because it perfectly combines my deep love for animals with my desire to serve others. Ever since I was young, animals have been a central part of my life. Growing up surrounded by horses, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats, I learned that animals are not just companions—they are living beings who need care, protection, and understanding. Over the years, I developed a strong sense of responsibility to be their voice and advocate, especially for those who have been neglected, abandoned, or mistreated.
Veterinary medicine is the natural extension of that passion. It offers me the chance to make a real difference every day—whether by saving the life of a beloved pet, helping a farm animal recover from illness, or educating owners on how to provide better care. I see it not just as a career, but as a calling. God placed this love for animals in my heart, and becoming a veterinarian allows me to use my gifts and skills to honor that calling in a meaningful and lasting way.
Getting a degree in veterinary medicine will be life-changing for me. First, it will give me the knowledge and tools I need to properly care for animals and help them live healthy, full lives. I will be able to do more than just love them—I will be able to heal them. Secondly, earning my degree will open the door to fulfilling my dream of expanding my family’s farm into a full rescue and rehabilitation center. My Passion for Agriculture and Caring for Animals
From the time I was very young, animals have been an important part of my life. Growing up on a small farm, I was surrounded by all kinds of creatures—horses, goats, chickens, cats, dogs, and more. Caring for them wasn't just a chore; it was a way of life that taught me compassion, patience, responsibility, and unconditional love. Over the years, these experiences shaped not only who I am but also the dreams I hold for my future.
My passion for agriculture and caring for animals stems from a deep belief that every life matters and deserves respect. Animals are voiceless, vulnerable beings who rely on people for their well-being, and I have always felt a strong sense of responsibility to be one of those people who steps up to help. Whether it's nursing a sick animal back to health, providing a safe home for a neglected pet, or simply ensuring that farm animals have proper food, shelter, and love, I find joy and purpose in every act of care.
Agriculture has also taught me important life lessons. Working on a farm showed me the importance of hard work, perseverance, and faith. There are seasons of abundance and seasons of challenge, but through it all, the connection to the land, the animals, and the Creator remains strong. I believe agriculture is not just about growing crops or raising animals; it's about stewardship—caring for the gifts God has entrusted to us.
One of the most defining experiences for me was rescuing a miniature pony that had been abandoned. She was frightened, malnourished, and in desperate need of medical attention. Through months of patient care, prayer, and love, she transformed into a healthy, happy pony who now thrives on our farm. Moments like these confirmed to me that my calling is to dedicate my life to caring for animals, advocating for their needs, and educating others on the importance of responsible animal stewardship.
Looking forward, I am committed to pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. I want to become a veterinarian who not only treats animals but also inspires others to see them as valuable, living beings deserving of kindness and respect. I dream of expanding my current farm into a sanctuary that serves both animals and people—a place where healing happens, where broken lives find hope, and where the bond between humans and animals is celebrated.
Agriculture and animal care are not just passions for me; they are the core of who I am. They represent a life of service, connection, and love—values that I intend to carry forward into everything I do. I am excited for the future and grateful for the journey that has brought me to where I am today.

My Passion for Animals, My Goals, and My Future Career
My passion for animals began at a very young age and has only grown stronger with time. Growing up, animals were always a part of my life. My family had a small farm where we cared for horses, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, and more. Each animal had its own story, its own needs, and its own unique personality. I spent countless hours feeding, grooming, playing with, and comforting these animals. Over time, I realized that caring for them was more than a responsibility—it was a calling placed on my heart.
One experience that truly shaped me was when my family took in several neglected animals that had nowhere else to go. Nursing them back to health required patience, love, and hard work, but seeing them heal physically and emotionally was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I realized then that animals, just like people, need compassion, protection, and someone to be their voice. From those early days on the farm, my passion for animals has become a major part of who I am and the life I want to build.
Looking ahead, I plan to make a positive impact in the animal world in several ways. First, I am working toward becoming a veterinarian. I want to be a source of healing for animals who are injured, sick, or suffering. Beyond just medical treatment, I want to educate people about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of treating all creatures with dignity and respect. I dream of expanding my family’s farm into a rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary where abused, abandoned, or neglected animals can find safety, love, and a second chance at life. I believe that by combining veterinary medicine, education, and hands-on care, I can make a lasting difference in both animal lives and human hearts.
My major is Veterinary Medicine, and it is directly centered around animals. Through my studies, I will learn how to diagnose and treat animal illnesses, perform surgeries, prevent disease, and advocate for better animal health and welfare. Every class, every lab, and every experience will equip me with the knowledge and skills needed to serve animals at the highest level. This major is not just a career path for me—it is a fulfillment of my lifelong passion and a way to honor the calling I have felt since childhood.
Animals have brought so much meaning to my life, and I am determined to spend my life giving back to them. Through veterinary work, advocacy, education, and compassionate care, I hope to be a light in the animal world and a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Build and Bless Leadership Scholarship
How my faith has influenced my leadership style:
As a Christian, my faith shapes every part of who I am—especially how I lead. Jesus modeled servant leadership: putting others first, showing grace in hard times, and loving without limits. I’ve taken that to heart in how I care for people and animals alike. Leadership, to me, isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room or having the most authority—it’s about being someone who uplifts, encourages, and serves with humility and compassion. My faith constantly reminds me to lead by example, through love and action, just as Christ did.
One of the most powerful ways my faith influences me is in my belief that all life is valuable. Proverbs 12:10 says, “The righteous care for the needs of their animals.” That verse resonates deeply with me. Whether I’m rescuing a neglected animal or comforting someone who is hurting, I see every act of kindness as a reflection of God’s love. I believe He placed this purpose in my heart—to be a voice for the voiceless, both human and animal.
A time I led or inspired others through faith:
One moment that stands out happened on my small farm. A harsh storm had just passed through, and several animals were abandoned or injured. I prayed hard, asking God for strength and guidance. Despite the overwhelming situation, I felt called to take them in. I began nursing them back to health, sharing their stories on social media along with reflections on faith and God’s provision.
At first, I didn’t think many people were paying attention. But then, messages started coming in—people asking how they could help, how they could get involved, or simply thanking me for reminding them that God cares about all His creation. One teen even told me my posts inspired them to consider becoming a vet themselves, saying, “You made me realize that helping animals is a way to serve God.” That moment humbled me and reminded me how powerful faith-based leadership can be.
How it shaped my vision for the future:
That experience made my purpose even clearer. I want to become a Christian veterinarian who leads with compassion, integrity, and a servant’s heart. My dream is to turn my farm into a full rescue and veterinary sanctuary—where people and animals can experience healing, hope, and the love of Christ. I want to be someone who not only heals bodies but also ministers to hearts.
Through every sick animal I treat and every person I support, I want them to feel God’s love through me. My faith is my foundation, and it will continue to guide me as I lead, serve, and live out the calling God has placed on my life.
