Bio

I am deeply passionate about serving individuals with autism and creating meaningful change within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis. With six years of experience as a Registered Behavior Technician, I have dedicated my career to supporting children and families while gaining firsthand insight into both the strengths and challenges of the system. My life goal is to advance my education in ABA and eventually open my own clinic, where I can provide ethical, compassionate, and individualized care while advocating for autism awareness and acceptance in the community. I am a strong candidate for this scholarship because I bring proven commitment, hands-on experience, and a clear vision for long-term impact. This financial support would allow me to continue my education and move closer to making a lasting difference in the lives of individuals with special needs.

    Disability in Social Work Scholarship
Good evening, my name is Cheyanne Flores, I am a Registered Behavior Technician working to get my Social Work Degree online at Central Texas community College. I took a six-year gap from high school until college, which I wish I hadn't because that was time wasted for no reason. Social work is such an amazing and open field to specialize and begin a career in. This field not only opens up a vast majority of opportunities or jobs but in the long run is very rewarding in whatever career field this career drives you too. My goal with social work opens two career paths for me that I am very passionate and dedicated to. My two options are a career in therapy with the military as a civilian or a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. For the past five years I have been a Registered Behavior Technician working with amazing, brilliant and very talented kids and adults with autism. Teaching daily living skills, communication, calm down techniques, social skills and the list goes on. This is my number one passion and most rewarding career I've ever worked in, teaching me patience every day and building bonds with kids and skill sets that parents didn't know were even possible to achieve. The second career path I want to continue my education for is to be a civilian mental health therapist for the military, helping active-duty soldiers, veterans and spouses. As an Army wife I saw first-hand that their needs to be a change with who helps these soldiers and veterans. I saw firsthand that if you weren't in immediate danger of hurting yourself or others you were not a priority, dismissed, medicated then they pushed you aside until the worst possible outcome eventually happened. For this reason, I want to be the change where someone who is serving our country and now needs our help knows how valued and cared for and they have a support system always there for them. In both of these fields we teach that your words matter and are valued, and you deserve to be treated as such, no matter what. Both careers are very rewarding, and I want to make a change in either field. My long-term goal after school is to fall in love with my career, look forward to everyday without dreading going to work and overall work in a career I will retire from knowing I made a great impact. Not every day will be perfect by any means, but as long as I've helped with all I possibly can, that's what I will value every day.
