I recently lost my grandmother in 2023. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and church mother. She was loved by everyone for her humor, service, and fun personality. I have lived with her and my grandfather since 2008 when I was obtaining my undergraduate degree. It eventually led to me staying after college and helping them both as their health began to worsen. Now it's me and my 81 year old grandfather. I will admit it has been a great challenge living without her. I've always participated in church and held many leadership positions and I still serve and the Youth Department Coordinator. However, Sundays have been the worst to endure since she's been gone. In addition to her church mother duties, she assisted with breakfast for Sunday School and making sure everyone had what they needed before and after services. And at home she fed my grandfather, got him dressed, and provided everything he needed. And now that I am still here with him, I have struggled daily to keep even a portion of that going. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman and held everything together at all times. I'm reminded constantly of her service and dedication to God, our church, and our family. The only thing keeping me together and making it day to day other than her memory is my faith in God. I have to believe that my purpose here with my grandfather is in His will and that all that I have been able to overcome is because He continues to guide me and provide the strength that I need. I come from a family of fisherman and we take that title with pride biblically as well. The day my grandmother passed, she told us that Jesus told her it was time to cast her net and follow him. We always joke that my mother is quick to catch the fish but my grandmother said on that day that my mother is not as quick as Jesus and there was no way He would miss. I would say that it's not so much that I'm relying on my faith to overcome, but I'm relying solely on God. My faith may waiver during this time I've been struggling mentally, physically, and financially, but I'm always reminded that God is covering me and my family. And then my faith is restored. And for that I will always be grateful.
