Bio

I love to draw and fill my sketchbooks throughout all of my classes, so having a class where I'm actually allowed to do so is paradise for me. The reason that Art is an engaging subject for me is because I always treated the subject as a hobby being graded. I love to draw and fill my sketchbooks throughout all of my classes, so having a class where I'm actually allowed to do so is paradise for me. Because of my love for all things artistic and expressive, I joined my school's art club. Art is my passion, specifically animation. I want to pursue a career in the visual arts and perhaps be able to work on a famous cartoon. I want to inspire someone in the same way I was inspired by the crew behind shows like Spongebob, Powerpuff Girls, and Dexter's Lab. Art club is a place where I've created some of my proudest sketches (backgrounds, character designs, etc.) because I am in the company of my fellow creative innovators. After a long day of physical activity, I enjoy practicing small animations on any apps I can find; aiming to perfect my craft. I am currently taking a film studies course in high school to learn more about the film industry. Tv Production and Graphic Design are also amazing courses that I have creatively thrive in.

Elevate Minorities in the Arts Scholarship
The first ever animated film created debuted in 1906. It was titled Humorous Phases of Funny Faces. Ever since then, millions of animated features have been produced by the likes of Walt Disney, DreamWorks, Warner Bros., and more. The creative efforts and strives of these industry giants have inspired me and led me to pursue a career in animation. Through this vast art form, artists are able to express themselves with the help of moving pictures that emote and react however I please. Though I don’t have a lot of talents, a lot of people consider me to be good at drawing and being artistic in general. Others find me a creative person who is a storyteller through their art. Making music brings me joy as well as creating animations. The classes I've always thrived in were my fine arts courses (drawing 1 and graphic design) as well as my history courses (american gov, modern u.s., world history). The reason that Art is an engaging subject for me is because I always treated the subject as a hobby being graded. This scholarship will help me pay for an academic place to work among people who are just as passionate as I am when it comes to visual expression. To prepare for my future career, I am currently experimenting with various animation softwares and flip book programs. I am currently taking a film studies course in high school to learn more about the film industry. Tv Production and Graphic Design are also amazing courses that I have creatively thrive in. However, this is not enough. I want to contribute to the film industry by creating a passion project that can destigmatize mental health. Now that I have completed my personal goal of creating a fully animated character walk-cycle by the end of my junior year, I need this scholarship to help me reach my full potential.

Picture this with me: two burnt out college dropouts, one of them an alcoholic who dreams of being a successful graphic designer and the other a quirky songwriter struggling with heroin. Setting: dystopian version of mid-2000s Michigan. The alcoholic (named Bowie) has been shunned by his strict immigrant parents for refusing to become a doctor and striving for success towards an art career. He lives with the burden of admitting his family was right as his artwork sells less and less. To make ends meet he works for Dead End job at a punk rock music store we’re no one shops. His roommate, Denis, is a hobo running from the law. He broke into Bowie’s apartment and convinced the confused little Arab that they were friends in high school (though they really never met). Bowie, guilty for not remembering, let’s the guy stay. Throughout the duration of the series, the two must struggle with the mid 2000s’ societal bias towards Bisexuality, punk rock culture, drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness, and Far left activism. And don’t even get me started on the rent! A gradual decline in mental health and hope is prominent. And what genre might this whole spirit sinking debacle fall into? A comedy. Yes, I want my first animated series to be a dark comedy aimed towards teens and young adults. The art style will draw influence from early 2000’s cartoons I watched as a kid. As well as this, the two characters are part of the emo subculture, so the series will no doubt praise AND mock the two wannabes. While it may be at first seemingly cool to create two characters just to punish them, we must keep in mind that nobody in my series is a good person. They are all morally corrupt in their own way on different levels. Bowie uses manipulation and legal loopholes to get out of paying his debt and working his shift. He’s also vain and loves to be right, often calling Denis names like “whore” and “scrotum sucker” when he annoys him. Denis, while the more quiet between the two, uses his likable charms as a guitar playing white guy to sleep around with women who think he’ll give them a chance. He also has the mental capacity of an eight year old, and doesn’t understand basic math. The whole series is basically angry little guy yelled at big dumb guy, which jas to be the best dynamic out there.I’ve been rambling. So why should the world, or at least some of the world, see this train wreck of a show? Well, I’ve already started working on concept art and background design as well as character models. From what I’ve seen, my local artist peers doubt the long-term success of a show that makes light of such dark topics. I disagree. I wholeheartedly believe that if my show gets greenlit, I will be able to destigmatize the struggles of addiction and depression in a way that Slowly unveils philosophical talking points about who and who doesn’t deserve to suffer. As well as this, my show will incorporate a unique animation style with unique songs that I’ve written for Denis’s fictional punk rock band: The Ruckuses (most of the songs are completed). Struggling to express myself has been a character flaw of my own that I’m working to fix. This show that I thought up one day as a 16-year-old, is honest with me so much of me poured out onto a screen. While these two characters are terrible, trend-chasing addicts, I believe that I can build a fandom one day and give others hope in their own situations, no matter how desperate. The show will be titled “Gloommates'' for now, but the name is up for debate. I am so proud of what I’ve created so far and my twisted, messed up shit show can be displayed to anyone who needs a laugh. Schadenfreude Is the art of taking pleasure in one’s pain. hopefully through the show, people will understand that it’s possible to laugh at the ridiculousness of a situation while also sympathizing with a struggle they can relate to or potentially put themselves in. With better animation software, a good sound design, and maybe some assistant writers, I think the show can really get somewhere. But not without help from the college that will teach me the skills and give me the resources to become the best animator I can be. With that being said, I’ll leave you with my pilot synopsis: Mr. Coleslaw asks Bowie and Denis to take his credit card and buy him ointment and various pills. On the way to the pharmacy, the boys are faced with the temptation of buying booze, babes, and beats. Will they miss use Mr. Cole size money, or stay true to their promise?
