Bio

Hello! I am Chase Christopher Shannon and I am BOLDLY stepping into my next stage in this journey of life!! I am very eager to begin my college experience and begin my journey into adulthood. I have been accepted to most of my top schools, but I have not yet made a final decision as to which one I will attend. A four year education will positively benefit myself, my family and my community. After observing my family, family friends and community members, I believe that a four year degree opens doors to more opportunities. Most of the people that I know personally, have at least a college degree. With a four year degree, I will be better qualified to enter the job market. I believe that having a college degree will open doors to more opportunities, allowing me to provide for myself and my family. I also believe that there is more job security when one has a college degree, based on the longevity and job security of those that I know with college degrees. My goal is to have a successful career in business, with a focus on Computer Science and Graphic Design. I am ready to make my impact, want you help me?

My name is Chase Christopher Shannon and I come from a community of people that have poured into me to excel and understand how important uplift is in the community. This has given me a solid foundation and has shaped me into the young man I am today. I have been taught so many things, but the most important things I will carry with me are the importance of manhood, education, and providing uplift to others. These principles along with many others will carry me into my next journey as I transition to college. Let me tell you a bit more about why I believe granting me a scholarship is a wise decision. “Service is the Rent You pay for Room on This earth.” - Shirley Chisholm That statement was instilled in me by my Mom as far as I can remember. I have watched my Mom give to others and tirelessly serve her community and her sorority. Helping others, being compassionate, and being empathetic has always been a way of life for me. I plan to continue in the footsteps of the path that others have laid before me, so that I can be a benefit to those in need. I feel that helping those when you can makes life better for everyone. I also believe that pursuing education beyond high school is the best way for me to open the doors to unlimited opportunities, as well as learning ways to uplift those less fortunate. I plan to major in computer science so I can work in the field of cybersecurity. By doing this I will help the community by safeguarding and protecting data from hackers and assisting those who are not computer-literate. I will also volunteer with the youth in my community to show them ways to make their love for computers and technology educational but still fun. In college, I plan to network and have internships that will allow me to partner with and realize my dream of community computer banks for youth. This scholarship will allow me to focus on my studies without the worry of a financial burden or hardship. It will also alleviate additional stress and concern my mother has in funding my education. One of the things I was able to experience was being a part of a mentoring program for young men. These mentors have given so much of themselves and poured into me showing me that college-educated men have a debt to pay to future generations. I accept the challenge and I am ready to be a stepping stone to uplift the next generation of young boys. This scholarship will allow me the opportunity to do this and continue my path of uplift. Thank you for considering me and helping me on my college journey.

My name is Chase Shannon and I am a high school senior who will graduate from McEachern High school this year. I worked hard to graduate with a 3.0 GPA which has gotten me accepted into some great colleges and universities. The primary driving force for me to pursue higher education is my belief that being well-educated and having a formal education will result in a greater likelihood of stability and financial independence as an adult. I believe that pursuing education beyond high school is the best way for me to open the doors to unlimited opportunities, including a stable professional career. I look forward to working with other students and joining clubs and organizations that have a focus on community service and volunteer work. I have already started working to make a positive impact in my community. Service is the rent we pay for living on earth. That statement was instilled in me by my Mom and leaders in the community. I believe that pursuing education beyond high school is the best way for me to open the doors to unlimited opportunities, including a stable professional career. As a young adult, I know that I must accept the responsibility of supporting myself and my family so that I can be a positive and productive member of my community. One of the areas I made an impact in is pet care. I became a pet advocate with LifeLine Animal Project. Through this program I learned the importance of key animal welfare topics, including but not limited to, spaying/neutering, dismissing the myth of dog breeds, the community’s role in helping other pet owners, and how local government and nonprofit programs can assist pet owners. Helping pet owners understand their pet's behavior and being a community pet advocate to better the community and enrich the lives of animals. One of my favorite ways to support was community engagement, where direct contact with the elderly and children made an immediate impact in my community. I also worked on projects to feed the homeless and community beautify by painting buildings and sidewalks. Working with the Green Team to plant trees, shrubs, and plants gave me a sense of peace as I walked by the areas my team worked on. It was nice to see growth as the plants bloomed and the trees got bigger. Knowing these will be here in years to come is so fulfilling. Although attending college is not the only route that one can take to have success, I believe that the four years that I will spend in college will allow me to mature and obtain knowledge that will be beneficial as an adult. With a 4-year degree, I also know that I will be better qualified to compete in the job market. I believe that there is more job security when one has a college degree. My goal is to have a successful career in computer science with an emphasis on computer graphics and design. Lastly, as I enter adulthood, I am focused on the importance of making responsible financial decisions. The flexible funding offered by this scholarship will be a tremendous help in allowing me to avoid student loan debt. My goal is to graduate from college debt free, so applying for scholarships, working and possibly enrolling as an ROTC cadet are all options that I am considering. In conclusion, pursuing higher education is not optional for me and I am looking forward to starting this journey to creating a secure and productive life for myself while benefiting my family and my community.
