Hi, my name is Charlie Davis. I am a sophomore in college and I am going for a degree in social work. My career goals are to be able to help children understand that cancer does not always mean death. I have decided to go into social work because I myself have recurrent met blastoma and I’d like to go into the hospital and work in pediatrics oncology for social work. I wanna help children and parents understand that their kids diagnosis of cancer doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world, taking classes in social work will help me and taking classes like American politics and other things will help me as well because I need to know certain things to be in this field of study. I’m going to school because I want to help people, but also I want to make sure that I’m able to make not only my life better but my families and other peoples lives better. I want to help people see that cancer isn’t taking power away from who you are. I am in college and I make hats for people who stay in Ronald McDonald houses for people who go into the hospital for diseases like cancer, diseases that give them a cold head. i’m taking social short classes and I’m working towards my goal of getting into social work in hospital cause I want to help people I want to help kids I want to help show them that yeah cancer is hard but it’s not gonna kill you because you’re stronger than cancer I am proof of this because I have taken my diagnosis of cancer at the age of 15 and I was able to graduate high school I moved onto college. I make hats. I do everything I used to be able to I fish I hike I do everything and it helps show people that yeah I have cancer but who cares it doesn’t keep me from doing what I want. It doesn’t keep me from doing things I need to do , I have cancer, but that doesn’t make who I am. I figured out that I wanted to go into social work a year after my diagnosis when I found out I had my second brain tumor. I was diagnosed at the age of 15 with a brain tumor and brain cancer. I was supposed to get one year cancer free we found my second brain tumor, and I saw that there were more people in Hospitals with worse things than what I had and didn’t understand everything that the way I did . My dad went to college for radiological sciences, he did not pass because he didn’t realize he had Graves’ disease but as a little girl, he would let me read his books his medical books for his classes for my 20 minute readings. When I was younger he showed me how the body worked. he showed me how the skeletal system worked, part of the body worked so for me someone need to go into my brain to do surgery was not that big of a deal was shocked when I found out I had the second tumor and it really hurt me because I didn’t know that that would happen I was told that it was a one and done thing, but it turned into something different I am now going to University of North Carolina Greensboro and I’m pursuing a degree in social work and I still am sticking with this major because it’s something that I want to do with something I extremely am turned towards this is what I will help other people this is what I know other people need help with . cancer is not an every day thing that people go through when they go through it they always think the worst and I want to show them that cancer doesn’t mean you have to think the worst. I’m still alive. I’m still going cancer hasn’t taken me down and it’ll take more than cancer to take me down, I want to take more cancer. Take them down just because they have cancer doesn’t mean their life is over just because they have cancer doesn’t mean that they’re dying it doesn’t mean that they can’t do anything. They love to do or that they used to do cancer is just a disease nothing to worry about. It’s nothing to get stressed over because there are more important things you can’t look on the past, you can’t look on the present you have to look towards the future when you look towards the future, show you that cancer was just the past it’ll show you that you don’t need To worry about What’s happening now you need to look towards the future because if you go into cancer with an attitude of I can’t do this when it becomes the diagnosis of sorry you have a week. I will Show people that they are more than what cancer makes them think, the scholarship will help me get the education I need to show people that they’re more than cancer.

My name is Charly Davis and I have recurrent medullablastoma I am getting my degree both masters and bachelors insocial work. I want to work with kids who are going through the same thing that I am. I want to help show them that it’s OK and there’s nothing really to worry about, I want to help them see that they can do this and that it’s not that hard. I was diagnosed at the age of 15 with my diagnosis there were times where I thought my life was over but I have I’ve moved on and I am a sophomore college getting closer and closer to get to help these people see that no matter what they have to go through they can do it, and they can move on with their lives That I know that but it’s it’s not something you want to do, but it’s something you have to do if you don’t things will get worse and you won’t be able to. I want to show that you may end up with other things besides cancer, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to stop you it hasn’t stopped me Was diagnosed with cataracts. I have gone through radiation and chemotherapy and all that that’s not gonna stop me from getting to my goal. That’s not gonna stop me from getting through life. Life is hard. Death is the easy way out. I am not taking the easy way out I will fight to go the long way, I will fight to play the long game, I deserve the scholarship because I want to help people understand that just because they have an illness doesn’t mean that their life is over. I deserve to get the education I need to help people see that it’s not the end of the world when they get diagnosed with cancer. I am living proof that cancer doesn’t always mean death. I want to show kids that their cancer doesn’t mean death either. I will help people see that they can beat cancer because they can fight and they can win. I deserve this award because I can show that cancer has no power over people. I can show that people are stronger than what they think. Cancer can’t make people weaker mentally, they can make them stronger mentally and give them the the fight they need to be able to be cancer free.

I have read many books and seen many movies and from what I have learned is that people watch and read stuff to get away from the reality of life. I have seen that movies make people laugh, cry, and get emotional in general because there are things in life that no one want to deal with, but we have too. I have recurrent Medulloblastoma, simple words I have recurrent Brain Cancer. I am going through something that I don’t want to deal with and reading or watching movies is one of the ways that I use to cope with the fact that I may have cancer for a long time in my life. I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 15, and I was heartbroken with what I had been told. A way that I coped was watching T.V. and becoming numb. When I got sadder and more depressed I would watch movies that I would watch in my childhood because they would help me feel much happier and forget about the fact that I was going through something that I didn’t want to go through in the first place. I would watch nostalgic movies and read books that I liked because it meant that I could forget the bad things that I was going through at that time. I still watch things that cause nostalgia because I still have depression from all of my new brain tumor discoveries. I am 18 and have 5 tumors and I watch T.V. That tends to be funny because it helps a lot. I am going for my bachelors degree in social work specializing in Pediatric Oncology, I am getting my degree because I want to help people who are going through the same disease that I am currently experiencing myself. I want to recommend that people do, read, or watch something that makes them happy or makes them laugh because it will take them away from the bad in the world and let them use their imagination to make them happier and forget why they were sad in the first place. I understand that not everything can be solved by laughing but I do know that it can help and I want to help show people that as long as they can laugh hard moments can get easier when you are able to laugh either about it or with other people who understand that this situation you are going through is hard. I want to share with others that laughing can be one thing that is never broken, even when others think they are broken.
