I have spent the past four years preparing for my future. I have used this time to be active in a wide range of activities including basketball, choir and drama to name a few. I’m a solid student who skipped the 5th grade. I have taken ccp classes to help prepare for college. I’m looking forward to focusing my studies and obtaining my nursing degree. I’m also hoping to expand my exposure to new adventures that college clubs and classes provide.

When people think about success, they often focus on grades, careers, or big accomplishments. But I have learned that relationships are just as important in shaping who we become and where we are going. The relationships in my life, especially the one I have with my mom and my boyfriend, Maison, have taught me lessons that will guide me not only in my personal life but also in my future career as a nurse.
My mom has always been the strongest role model in my life. She raised me to understand independence, even when life was not easy. I watched her handle challenges with strength and grace, and she never let difficult situations define her. Instead, she showed me how to keep moving forward, take care of myself, and know my worth. She taught me that being independent does not mean doing everything alone, but knowing you are capable and deserving of respect.
One of the most important things my mom taught me is the value of self-worth. She always reminded me that I should never settle for less than I deserve, whether that is in friendships, school, or relationships. Because of her, I have learned how to set boundaries. I understand that it is okay to say no, to protect my time, and to prioritize my mental and emotional health. These lessons became even more real to me through my relationship with my boyfriend, Maison.
Maison and I have been together for three and a half years, which has been a big part of my high school experience. Growing up in a long-term relationship has taught me a lot about balance, communication, and respect. I have learned how to be a supportive girlfriend while still focusing on my own goals, like school, work, and planning for college. We both understand that we have individual dreams, and we encourage each other to chase them.
Because of the values my mom taught me, I have been able to stay grounded in my relationship. I know how to set healthy boundaries and make sure I am still taking care of myself. Maison respects that, and I respect his independence too. We have learned that a strong relationship is not about spending every moment together, but about trusting each other and growing both individually and as a team.
This balance is something I know will carry over into my professional life. As someone who plans to go into nursing, relationships will be a huge part of my career. Nurses must build trust with patients, communicate clearly with coworkers, and support families during difficult times. Just like in my relationship, I will need to show up as my best self while also respecting boundaries and maintaining professionalism.
I have also learned how important it is to take care of myself so I can take care of others. In my relationship with Maison, we both understand the importance of giving each other space when needed and supporting each other during stressful times. In nursing, I know burnout is real, and I will need to prioritize self-care in order to be fully present for my patients.
Another lesson I have learned through my relationships is how to see the good in people, even on their worst days. There have been times when life has been stressful for both of us, but we have learned to be patient and understanding. This is something I know will be essential in healthcare. Patients are not always going to be at their best, but they still deserve kindness, compassion, and respect.
Relationships have shaped my understanding of teamwork, communication, and empathy. Whether it is the strength I see in my mom or the partnership I have built with Maison, I have learned that strong relationships require effort, trust, and respect. These are the same qualities that will help me succeed in my future career.
In the future, I hope to build a career where I can make a real difference in people’s lives. I want to be a nurse who not only provides care but also builds meaningful connections with patients. I believe that the lessons I have learned from my relationships have prepared me for that role.
My mom gave me strong roots by teaching me independence and self-worth, and my relationship with Maison has helped me apply those lessons in real life. Together, these relationships have shaped who I am today.
