Bio

My name is Charlie Clark, I am 17 years old and I have been doing art for nearly eight years. I want to be able to go to an art school that allows me to further pursue my passion for art in a career later in life. After college, I want to be able to open an art studio for people to come and have the creative tools needed to create art with whatever medium they prefer.

I am passionate about my art because it is a way to show how I am feeling. Whenever I am stressed or overwhelmed, I can go to my canvas and work on a painting. Sometimes a painting can take minutes or hours. Depending on what I am trying to do with my artwork can change the amount of time spent on it. My main love language is giving gifts and receiving them, my art makes this easy to do. When I want to give someone a gift I can find a picture of something or someone they like and give them a painting that shows that moment in time in a different way. Creating art and giving it to someone allows for there to be a physical copy of something important to the receiver. Not only does it involve something someone likes but it also allows me to show I care for someone. Doing art allows me to listen to the things people like and make my rendition of it in a way that shows the person I am listening to and I care about the things they find interesting in my way. While doing art can bring joy to other people it can also bring joy to me. Seeing the reaction people give to my artwork can brighten up my day but that is not the only reason I do my art. Having to balance work and school can be stressful at times and creating my art is a way to take those emotions and let them out. Sometimes, instead of making art for someone else, I am making it for myself. When my Dad passed away this became much more apparent. I relied on my artwork to process the emotions I was going through. I was able to use painting as a connection to my Dad due to the artistic side I grew up with. Painting allowed me to have an outlet that made going about my day a lot easier. Painting can at times be messy or it can be organized and this is another reason I rely on it so much. I put a lot of stress on myself to do well in everything I do. This sometimes applies to my artwork, especially when doing realism, which is the main method I use when painting. However, perfectionism does not always need to be applied to my art. I can also go and make a painting that requires getting my hands and arms covered in paint during the process. the messier the painting process the more the stress is relieved from the day or week I have had.
