I chose nursing as a field of study because I want to intergrade community service in my professional career goal. I find helping opportunities and direct services personally fulfilling in my needs of belonging and self-actualization. My life goals are becoming a nurse, being part of a service community, and advocacy for peace and social justice. Going back to college to pursue a career in health care system is one step closer to those goals. Becoming a nurse has been my childhood dream. I am excited to finally pursue a degree that encourages the spirit of service and fulfills the dream of being there for someone on their worst day. I have worked in the social service field for a major part of my adult life, which gives me incredible life experience. I have worked with minorities who experienced human trafficking and exploitation, newly arrived refugees, and single mothers who experienced domestic violence. This experience has shaped who I am and has set me on a path to being a lifetime advocate for the marginalized. It also has made me a compassionate person, which is a desired characteristic trait in my professional settings.
