Bio

My name is Linda Duverson, and at 37 years old, I am proudly pursuing my lifelong dream of becoming a nurse while striving to be the first college graduate in my family. As the daughter of Haitian immigrants, I was raised to value hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of a better life. Becoming a single mother to my son gave me a renewed sense of purpose and the determination to lead by example. By day, I work as a full-time teacher, and by night, I dedicate myself to completing my nursing degree. Balancing these roles has been challenging, but each step forward brings me closer to my dream of serving others through nursing. With a 3.5 GPA and only two semesters remaining, I am deeply committed to finishing strong. However, the financial demands of tuition and related expenses present significant challenges. I am seeking financial assistance to help ease this burden so that I can remain focused on my education and ultimately give back to my community through healthcare. Your support would not only help me achieve my personal and academic goals but would also allow me to continue paving the way for future generations in my family.

    American Dream Scholarship for Nurses
One of the greatest challenges I have overcome is breaking free from the limiting beliefs that once convinced me certain goals were out of reach. For years, I carried the weight of trauma and hardship—experiences that could have easily kept me stuck in a place of discouragement. But in 2022, my life changed profoundly with the birth of my first child. In that moment, I realized I had a responsibility not only to my child, but also to myself, to rise above my circumstances and pursue a future that reflected purpose, strength, and hope. Becoming a mother strengthened my faith in God and ignited a shift in the way I viewed myself. My inner dialogue changed from doubt to possibility, from fear to determination. I began to truly believe that I was capable of achieving anything I committed to, including my dream of becoming a registered nurse. My journey through nursing school has not been easy. During this time, I have experienced a series of deeply painful losses, including the passing of both my mother and grandmother. I have had to raise my child on my own without financial support from his other parent. I have worked part-time while balancing classes, clinicals, and the demands of everyday life—often stretching every resource just to make ends meet. Even paying my tuition has been a challenge, yet I have refused to let financial hardship stop me from moving forward. Despite every obstacle, I continue to push through with resilience, perseverance, and an unwavering belief that my purpose is bigger than my struggles. These experiences have shaped me into a woman who is focused, compassionate, and committed to making a meaningful impact in my community as a future nurse. They have taught me discipline, empathy, time management, and the ability to thrive under pressure—qualities that will make me not only a strong student, but an excellent nurse. I believe I am a strong candidate for this scholarship because I am dedicated, hardworking, and deeply motivated to complete my education. This support would not only ease a significant financial burden, but it would also bring me one step closer to providing a stable, fulfilling life for my child and honoring the loved ones I’ve lost along the way. Most importantly, it would allow me to continue pursuing the career I know I’m called to—one where I can serve, uplift, and advocate for others with the same compassion that has carried me through my own challenges.
