I am an active student at Haralson County High School with very big dreams. While participating in Dual Enrollment, I also act as a core member of my theatre department. Winning scholarships provided by so many selfless Donors would be tremendously helpful for me to reach my goals.
Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to study criminal behavior. Watching shows such as "Forensic Files" and "Criminal Minds," since I was a child, have had a great impact on my life goals. Watching these successful role models has driven me to pursue a career in the same, predominately male field. As a determined woman, I intend to make great strides as a criminologist. Attending a highly regarded school, such as Georgia State University or Kennesaw State University, would be a huge step in the right direction.

Girls can make it in a man's world. Clarice Starling, the underdog main character from a Thomas Harris novel called "The Silence of The Lambs," is an FBI trainee, who is chosen to pursue a lead in a serial murder case. From the beginning, all of her superiors were doubtful of her abilities. The predominately male workforce did not make for an easy assignment for Clarice. As she quickly learned that respect for women was hard to come by, she found her way to Hannibal Lector's cell.
Clarice Starling is my role model because of her determination and diligence. Her ability to work hard despite snide remarks from disapproving peers is remarkable. As a child, I watched "The Silence of The Lambs" for the first time. It was an eye-opening experience because I had never considered sexism in the workplace to be an obstacle that I would face one day. Luckily, my family and friends have always taught me that women are just as capable as men. Because Clarice Starling responds to sexism in such an elegant and respectful way, she is a phenomenal role model to young girls who intend on bringing diversity into a male-dominated field of work. The character taught me that in order to thrive in a difficult situation, I must not stoop to the aggravators' level. Remaining calm and collected is key to progress.
From now on, I plan to reread or to rewatch this iconic story each time I feel discouraged or unseen. Clarice Starling is my role model for a multitude of reasons. Her respectful attitude, perseverance, work ethic, and strong will are all important attributes of my role model. I aspire to act in a similar way to Clarice Starling when faced with the unfair and disappointing realities of working in a space in which women are not widely accepted. The character, Clarice Starling, has shaped me into a woman with confidence. I will be successful in criminal justice, too. Seeing a young woman, like myself, following her unrealistic dreams and making them a reality is beyond inspiring. My role model has both opened my eyes to difficult truths and given me hope and a way to overcome any setbacks that I may face in the future.
