As a Culinary Arts major with a passion for both food and entrepreneurship, I am driven by a vision to blend creativity, hospitality, and business. Growing up in a family that celebrated food as a way to bring people together, I developed an early love for cooking that has grown into a serious commitment to mastering the culinary profession. My academic focus lies in refining culinary techniques, understanding global cuisines, and exploring food sustainability practices.
Alongside my culinary studies, I have a growing interest in real estate, particularly in how food businesses—from restaurants to boutique food markets—interact with urban development and property management. My goal is to one day open and manage my restaurant, with plans to invest in and design spaces that elevate the dining experience while contributing to vibrant, community-centered neighborhoods.
This scholarship will support my education and long-term goal of combining culinary excellence with real estate acumen to create innovative food spaces that are as thoughtfully designed as they are delicious.

Charles Brown Culinary Scholarship
I am a rising sophomore at Johnson & Wales University, with a passion for the culinary arts and restaurant management. My journey so far has been filled with dedication, hands-on learning, and a growing sense of purpose. After a successful first year, I am more confident than ever that continuing my education at JWU is the perfect next step in my culinary adventure.
First and foremost, I am eager to dive deeper into a well-rounded culinary education. My first-year courses and lab experiences have laid a solid foundation, but I’m just getting started. Johnson & Wales offers an environment where I can refine my skills in international cuisines, explore cutting-edge culinary techniques, and learn from industry-leading chefs and faculty. These opportunities are essential for my development as a future culinary professional.
In addition, the university’s focus on both culinary arts and restaurant management continues to align perfectly with my long-term goals. While I love the kitchen, I also understand the importance of managing a successful restaurant from the front and back of the house. Courses in hospitality, business strategy, and leadership are equipping me with the skills I need to become a well-rounded chef who can lead a team, run a kitchen efficiently, and ultimately, own or manage a thriving establishment.
As I begin my second year, I’m looking forward to taking on a larger role within the JWU community. Whether by joining culinary clubs, collaborating on events, or participating in student-run dining experiences, I’m ready to contribute even more of my energy, ideas, and creativity. My passion, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn will enable me to grow as a student and positively contribute to the university culture.
In conclusion, continuing my education at Johnson & Wales is more than a step—it’s a leap toward my goals in the culinary and business world. The knowledge, experience, and connections I gain here are shaping me into the chef and leader I aspire to be. I’m excited for the journey ahead and confident that I will continue building a recipe for success that is as bold and unique as the dishes I hope to create.
