I'm in the last stretch of my BSN program. I am reaching out to you as the last line of defense and a plea for help finishing school.
In October of last year, I became homeless and started to live in my car. I have been unable to secure approval for a student loan due to encountering the same provider across all five loan options, which I could not get approved for because the family members who could qualify did not want to help me. Those who were willing to help were undocumented and not U.S. citizens. After expressing this issue to the financial aid department, they mentioned the possibility of writing a new contract for me to finish, but despite my repeated inquiries, it never happened. Instead, they continued pushing me to apply for loans that I knew I would not be approved for, leading to a drop in my credit score, forcing me to pay over $2k monthly.
Since becoming homeless, the financial strain has required me to take on a third job solely to cover my monthly tuition. Just as I began this job, which could have turned my life around, my car broke down, leaving me without a place to sleep or means to get to work or school.
However, due to the lack of a car, my commute now takes 3 to 3.5 hours, causing me to lose hours at work and putting my job at risk of termination. Despite these challenges, I have managed to maintain a GPA above 3.5 and have never missed a day of class. I do not want to be stuck here. All I ask is for the chance to prove that I am a dedicated student with a promising future.

What inspired me to choose a career path in nursing anesthetics was my own experience with suffering, exhaustion, and determination motivated me to seek a profession in nursing anesthesia. Due to childhood trauma, I often experienced insomnia, which persisted into adulthood. The way I saw myself was impacted by the chronic exhaustion. I started to feel self-conscious about how I appeared, especially my eyes, which were usually tired, and I carried that insecurity for years. I learned firsthand from those situations how profoundly emotional suffering and physical tiredness can affect a person's confidence and self-image.
Those restless nights and fatigue worsened when I became homeless in October of last year. I was pushed well beyond my limits by living in my car, needing to work three jobs to cover my tuition, then needing to commute more than 3 hours a day to school and work due to my car breaking down on me in the middle of this
This realization led me to pursue a career in nursing, specifically in the area of nurse anesthesia. Helping patients find comfort, peace, and relief during times of fear or vulnerability is deeply human. When someone is worried about how they appear or feel, I want to be the one to reassure them or help them feel safe before surgery. In my own darkest moments, I yearned for the same comfort and compassion.
My compassion and dedication to helping others have been fueled by all the challenges I have encountered, including depression, homelessness, and tiredness. I've learned from my experiences that genuine healing calls for empathy, respect, and comprehension in addition to medicine. As a prospective nurse anesthetist, I want to remind people that they are respected, seen, and protected by providing them with the same sensation of calm and security.
Knowing that the suffering I have experienced has purpose serves as my source of inspiration. It has molded me into a person who not only comprehends suffering but also firmly believes in the power of compassion. I have the chance to use my experience during a challenging time to help others by providing them with peace, solace, and healing when they most need it thanks to nursing anesthetics.
Thank you for taking the time to think about and consider my application. In addition to getting me closer to finishing my degree, receiving this scholarship would enable me to keep working toward my goal of being a skilled and caring nurse anesthetist.
College Connect Resilience Award
To me, resilience means refusing to let my circumstances define my future. It is the strength to keep going when the world gives you reasons to stop. Living with depression for years and still choosing to pursue my education every single day is not easy. Some mornings, the mental weight alone feels heavier than anything physical I carry. Yet I get up, show up, and push forward because I believe that my life can be more than the hardships I have faced.
Last October, I lost my home and began living in my car. I never imagined that while trying to get a nursing degree and build a better life, I would also be figuring out where to safely park just so I could sleep. I tried every option to secure a student loan, but every path led to the same provider that would not approve me. Family members who could have helped chose not to, and the ones who wanted to help could not because of their citizenship status. My credit score suffered, and I found myself paying over $2,000 each month just to remain a student.
There were nights I sat in my car, exhausted from school and my jobs, staring at financial statements and feeling completely defeated. When my car broke down, I lost not just a vehicle but my shelter, my stability, my one place to keep my belongings. Now I commute over three hours just to make it to class, fighting exhaustion, anxiety, and the very real fear of losing my job if I am late.
I'm tired. I've been for a while. But I decide not to give up every day. My future is something I chose. I decide to think that what I am going through is happening for a reason. To finally transition from survival mode and create the secure, fulfilling life I have worked so hard to achieve, I want to get this degree. One day, I hope to assist patients who feel as though the world has forgotten them, as I am all too familiar with that sensation.
It's not easy, and I'm not perfect at being resilient. It's just that I'm not giving up.
Champions Of A New Path Scholarship
I believe I deserve this scholarship because I’ve fought through circumstances that most people couldn’t imagine, and I’ve never stopped trying, no matter how impossible things have felt. In October of 2024, due to unsafe circumstances, I became homeless and started living in my car with my dog. I didn't let that stop me, even though many others have told me that was a good excuse to stop or pause. To pay for my tuition, I've been working several jobs, sleeping wherever I can, and doing everything I can to keep up with my studies. Despite being hungry, tired, or lacking a safe place to go at night, I have never missed a day of class and have maintained a GPA above 3.5.
What gives me an advantage versus everyone else I'm competing against isn't privilege, but perseverance. Because soon after getting a new opportunity, I might have had a chance to make it through. My car breaks down on me. In times when most people might not have the strength to go on, I have learnt how to persevere and survive through some of the most trying times in my life. I lost not only my means of mobility when my car broke down, but also my home and sense of safety for me AND my dog. My commute by bus now takes 3 to 3.5 hours each way, costing me hours at work and putting my job at risk. Still, I keep showing up. I keep pushing through because I know this degree is my one shot at changing my life.
I've looked for help in every way I could. I applied for all five student loan options, only to discover that they are all processed by the same company, making it impossible for me to get accepted. The individuals who wanted to assist me were unable to do so because they are undocumented, and my family members who could co-sign did not want to help me. I've spoken with the financial aid office numerous times. They once suggested revising a contract to assist me in finishing, but that never happened. My credit score went from 720 to the 500s, and I have to continue to spend more than $2,000 a month to remain enrolled after I was instructed to keep applying for loans that I knew I wouldn't be approved for.
Now that I have just two months left to graduate, I'm doing everything I can to keep what I've worked so hard to get. To try to pay for school, I even took out a personal loan, but I had no other choice. I could have given up long ago, but I haven't. Here I am. still working toward the future I've always wanted, one in which I can finally buy a car so I can travel to work, keep my belongings safe, and have a reliable place to live.
This scholarship isn’t just about money to me... It’s about survival...It's about finishing what I started after struggling for a year while living in my car, working three jobs, and relying solely on my faith. I dont want to be stuck here. Given how close I am, I don't want to give up. I simply require the opportunity to demonstrate my ability to succeed and that all of this suffering and work was worthwhile.
I'm not asking for a handout. I just need the chance to finish strong, to escape this hell, this darkness, and to make the most of what I've experienced. This scholarship would give me that chance.
Not only will your choice help me to graduate, but it will also assist someone who endured despite life's attempts to break them. I will be able to use what I have gone through to support people who feel that their circumstances define them. My goal is to demonstrate that hope and perseverance can keep you going when all else is lost. All I need is this final opportunity to complete what I started.

WELCOME!! I wanted to be a physical therapist like my sister. So when I went to enroll, they told me that to be successful, I would need to continue my education and get my doctoral degree in physical therapy. Now I love school as much as the next person, but the timeline laid out to me was not what I had in mind, and I knew that I wanted to help people. The school suggested I enroll in their RN program. I was unsure and skeptical because I know that it is a big responsibility. I applied for their RN program, excelling in the TEAS exam and other competency tests. All that was left to do was to interview to be able to start the program. Long story short, I was up against experienced healthcare professionals, while I have not set foot in a hospital since I was born. I didn't make it past the last interview simply because other candidates were already experienced. They offered their LVN program to me since I had done so well on the entrance exams and first private interview. Being in an LVN program was one of the hardest tasks/education/accomplishments I had at the time. At a point during the program, I started to wonder if it would even be worth it at the end.
I could see a future, Myself giving back to society in the best way I know I can. Nurturing, Healing, and helping those going through difficult times. Believe and trust, if you have read my bio, I know my fair share of difficulties. I just knew I wanted to be there. I became happy and proud to call myself a nurse and know that I give great, nurturing care to my patients. Even if a shift gets hard, I just think about all the good I'm doing and the help I give to help people get better. Now I'm pursuing my bachelor's degree in nursing so I can do more to help more. With this scholarship and the committee's help, I can do that.
My vision for the future is big and promising. I want to own my own company. My own practice where I'm giving nutritional education and transfusions, making sure everyone's levels are right and their bodies are getting the right nutrients. Or run a business like Kaiser, but for the low to no-income people, so they can always have access to good health and nutritional care.

WELCOME!! A little bit about myself is that I'm the youngest of 5, and I have been an LVN for about 3 years now, going on 4. Sean Carroll's Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship
The quest to understand the nature of our universe is not merely an academic pursuit; it is a fundamental aspect of what it means to be human. As we explore the vastness of space and the intricate laws that govern it, we engage in a journey that connects us to the cosmos and deepens our understanding of our existence. This exploration holds significant importance for several reasons—ranging from practical applications in technology and medicine to profound philosophical implications about our place in the universe. Through this essay, I will discuss why it is essential to understand the universe better, outline the ideas and concepts I hope to employ in this pursuit, and explore how my nursing field correlates with these themes.
One of the most compelling reasons to study the universe is to gain insight into our existence. Questions about the origins of the universe, the formation of galaxies, and the development of life are fundamental to our understanding of who we are. Theories such as the Big Bang provide a framework for understanding how everything began, while concepts like evolution explain how life has diversified over billions of years. By studying these phenomena, we learn not only about the universe but also about ourselves and our place within this vast expanse.
Understanding the universe fosters a sense of curiosity and wonder that can be transformative. It encourages us to ponder the big questions: Why are we here? What is our purpose? These inquiries are not just abstract; they impact how we live our lives and interact with one another. As we learn more about the universe, we develop a greater appreciation for the complexities of life and the interconnectedness of all things.
Another critical reason for pursuing knowledge about the universe is the technological and medical advancements that arise from this exploration. Many innovations we take for granted today have their roots in astronomical research. For example, the development of satellite technology has revolutionized communication, weather forecasting, and navigation. The tools and techniques developed for space exploration have also led to advances in imaging technologies used in medicine, such as MRI scans and CT scans.
Moreover, research in astrophysics has practical applications that extend beyond traditional scientific boundaries. For instance, studying the behavior of materials under extreme conditions in space can lead to breakthroughs in materials science that impact various industries, including construction, electronics, and renewable energy. By investing in our understanding of the universe, we not only expand our knowledge but also unlock new possibilities for improving our everyday lives.
Understanding the universe can provide valuable insights as we face pressing global challenges. For example, studying climate patterns on other planets can enhance our knowledge of Earth’s climate system and inform strategies for mitigation and adaptation. Similarly, exploring the potential for life on other planets can inspire innovative approaches to sustainability and resource management on Earth.
Furthermore, the collaborative nature of scientific exploration encourages international cooperation and fosters a sense of global community. By working together to address challenges that transcend borders, we can build stronger relationships between nations and cultures. This collaborative spirit is essential in an increasingly interconnected world, where the impacts of our actions can be felt globally.
To deepen my understanding of the universe, I intend to engage with a variety of concepts and ideas drawn from multiple disciplines, including physics, astronomy, and philosophy. One of the foundational concepts I wish to explore is Cosmology, the study of the universe’s origins and evolution, which is another area of great interest to me. Concepts such as the Big Bang, cosmic inflation, and dark matter offer a fascinating glimpse into the history of the universe. Understanding these processes not only informs us about the past but also helps us make predictions.
I am particularly interested in researching dark matter and dark energy, two components that make up a significant portion of the universe yet remain poorly understood. Investigating these mysteries could lead to groundbreaking discoveries that reshape our understanding of the cosmos. Engaging with the latest research in cosmology will allow me to contribute to this exciting field and explore the unanswered questions that lie ahead.
In addition to the scientific concepts I wish to explore, I believe that integrating philosophical perspectives is essential for a holistic understanding of the universe. Philosophy prompts us to reflect on the implications of scientific discoveries and to consider the ethical dimensions of our actions. Questions about the nature of existence, consciousness, and morality are deeply intertwined with our understanding of the universe.
As I pursue my studies in nursing, I recognize a profound connection between my field and the broader quest to understand the universe. Nursing is inherently about caring for individuals and addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. This holistic approach resonates with the idea that we are all part of a larger cosmic tapestry, where each person’s health is interconnected with the well-being of the community and the environment.
In nursing, we learn that health is not merely the absence of illness but a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. This perspective aligns with my understanding of the universe, where everything is interconnected. Just as the universe operates through complex systems and interactions, so too does human health depend on a myriad of factors, including genetics, environment, and lifestyle.
By applying principles of system thinking from the study of cosmology, I can better understand how various elements contribute to a patient’s health. This comprehensive approach allows me to provide more effective care, recognizing that addressing one aspect of a patient’s life can have far-reaching effects on their overall well-being.
The scientific methods employed in astrophysics and cosmology can also inform my practice as a nurse. Evidence-based practice relies on the best available research to guide clinical decisions, ensuring that patient care is grounded in solid scientific evidence. By embracing a mindset of inquiry and exploration similar to that of scientists studying the universe, I can continually seek out new knowledge and integrate it into my nursing practice.
This commitment to ongoing education and adaptation is crucial in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. As new research emerges, I can remain at the forefront of nursing practice, ensuring that my patients receive the highest quality of care based on the latest evidence.
Finally, understanding the universe can equip me to address global health challenges more effectively. Just as scientists collaborate across borders to explore the cosmos, nurses must work together to tackle public health issues that transcend national boundaries. By drawing on insights from cosmology and the interconnectedness of all living things, I can advocate for health equity and sustainability in my community.
For example, understanding the effects of climate change on health can inform my approach to patient education and community outreach. By raising awareness about the health impacts of environmental factors, I can empower individuals to make informed choices that promote both their health and the health of our planet.
The pursuit of understanding the nature of our universe is a vital endeavor that enriches our lives in numerous ways. It helps us grasp our place in the cosmos, drives technological and medical advancements, and equips us to address global challenges. By engaging with key concepts such as quantum mechanics, cosmology, and the interplay of science and philosophy, I hope to deepen my understanding and contribute to the ongoing quest for knowledge.
As I embark on this journey, I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. I believe that by fostering a deeper appreciation for the universe and understanding its intricacies, we can inspire future generations to continue exploring and questioning the world around them. Ultimately, this pursuit is not just about acquiring knowledge; it is about nurturing a sense of wonder and responsibility toward our planet and each other.
Through this scholarship, I hope to further my education in nursing and become an active participant in the exploration of our universe, contributing to a future filled with discovery and understanding. By integrating my nursing practice with the insights gained from understanding the universe, I aspire to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of individuals and communities, fostering a healthier, more connected world.

Throughout my life, kindness has been a guiding principle that I strive to embody in every interaction, especially in my role as a nurse. The essence of nursing lies in compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to alleviate suffering and promote healing. For me, nursing is not just a profession but a calling—a way to channel my innate desire to help others and make a positive impact in the world.
In my journey as a nurse, I have encountered numerous instances where simple acts of kindness have had a profound impact on the lives of those under my care. Whether it's holding a patient's hand during a difficult procedure, listening attentively to their concerns, or offering words of comfort and encouragement, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of kindness in fostering trust, resilience, and healing.
One particular area where I am deeply committed to spreading kindness is in caring for individuals who are less fortunate or marginalized by society. Having experienced periods of homelessness myself, I understand the feelings of vulnerability, isolation, and despair that often accompany such circumstances. This personal experience has fueled my passion for reaching out to those in need, especially individuals who may be facing similar challenges.
When I encounter homeless individuals in my community, whether at work or in my personal life, I am always drawn to extend a hand of kindness and support. Despite my own past struggles, I believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion, regardless of their circumstances. If I come across a homeless person who appears to be in need, whether it's a warm meal, a listening ear, or a kind gesture, I make it a priority to offer whatever assistance I can provide.
I firmly believe that small acts of kindness, when offered with sincerity and empathy, can have a ripple effect that extends far beyond the immediate moment. By showing compassion and understanding to those who are often overlooked or marginalized, I hope to not only meet their immediate needs but also to plant seeds of hope, connection, and human solidarity.
One instance that stands out in my memory is when I encountered a homeless man who appeared to be struggling with physical discomfort and exhaustion on a street corner. Despite being off-duty at the time, I felt compelled to approach him, strike up a conversation, and offer him a bottle of water and some snacks that I had in my bag. As we talked, I learned about his journey, his challenges, and his hopes for the future.
In that brief interaction, I could sense the impact of a simple act of kindness—a moment of human connection that transcended social barriers and touched both of our lives in a meaningful way. Growing up in a blended family dynamic, where siblings from both my mother's and father's sides rotated in and out of my life, my childhood felt like a complex mix of a single-parent household and the challenges that come with it. While my father was physically present, his absence in certain aspects of parenting made it feel like a one-parent household at times. The constant shifting of siblings in and out of my life created a sense of instability and uncertainty, making it difficult to identify consistent role models and figures to look up to. This lack of stability and continuity in relationships with my siblings left me longing for stronger connections and a sense of belonging within my family structure.
Growing up in such a dynamic familial environment had a profound impact on my upbringing and the development of my future goals. The absence of a stable family unit, where my siblings were not always present, left me grappling with feelings of isolation and a lack of consistent support systems. While my parents did their best to provide for us, the fragmented nature of our family structure made it challenging to establish deep and lasting connections with my siblings. It felt like every few years, the composition of our family would shift as siblings rotated in and out, creating a sense of impermanence and uncertainty in my relationships.
As I transitioned into adulthood, I carried with me the desire to foster better relationships with my siblings, recognizing the importance of familial bonds and the impact they can have on one's life. Reflecting on the past, I see how the transient nature of my siblings' presence in my life influenced my sense of identity and shaped my understanding of family dynamics. The lack of consistent role models during my formative years instilled in me a deep longing for stable and enduring connections with my siblings, driving me to seek ways to strengthen these relationships as I grew older.
Despite the challenges I faced growing up, I have developed a deep-rooted aspiration to utilize my innate talents to make a positive impact on others, especially in healthcare settings. I envision myself leveraging my natural inclination towards care and healing to benefit those in need within hospital environments. Whether it be through providing emotional support to patients, advocating for their well-being, or simply offering a compassionate presence, I see myself contributing to the healing process in a meaningful way.
Looking ahead, I envision a future where I am actively engaged in using my talents to bring comfort and solace to individuals facing health challenges. Through my caring and empathetic nature, I aim to create a nurturing and supportive environment for patients, helping them navigate difficult times with compassion and understanding. While the specific career path may not be fully defined yet, my overarching goal remains clear—to make a difference in the lives of others through kindness, empathy, and a genuine desire to promote healing and well-being in a healthcare setting.
In conclusion, my upbringing in a blended family household has shaped my understanding of family dynamics, instilled in me a deep appreciation for stable relationships, and fueled my passion to use my talents to help others in healthcare settings. As a nurse, one of the most fascinating aspects of my work revolves around the intricacies of the human body and the profound ways in which it ages over time. The human body is a marvel of biological complexity, a finely tuned machine that undergoes remarkable changes as it progresses through the stages of life.
Understanding the aging process is not only essential for providing high-quality care to patients but also offers a window into the wondrous capabilities and limitations of the human body. Witnessing firsthand the effects of aging on individuals, both physically and mentally, has deepened my appreciation for the resilience and fragility of the human form.
Exploring the physiological changes that occur as the body ages—from the gradual decline in muscle mass and bone density to the effects of chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease—has been a journey of discovery and enlightenment. It is through this exploration that I have come to appreciate the complexities of human health and the importance of holistic care that addresses not just the symptoms but also the underlying causes of age-related conditions.
Moreover, learning about the psychological and emotional aspects of aging has provided me with valuable insights into the unique challenges and opportunities that come with growing older. Understanding the impact of factors such as social isolation, cognitive decline, and loss of independence on the well-being of older adults has underscored the importance of compassionate and person-centered care in promoting healthy aging and enhancing quality of life.
As a nurse, I am continuously inspired by the resilience, wisdom, and grace exhibited by individuals as they navigate the journey of aging. Each interaction with elderly patients offers a glimpse into a lifetime of experiences, memories, and lessons learned—a tapestry of stories that speaks to the richness and diversity of the human experience.
In caring for aging individuals, I am reminded of the profound interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit and the importance of approaching healthcare with empathy, respect, and dignity. By honoring the unique needs and preferences of each individual and fostering a supportive and nurturing environment, I strive to empower older adults to live their lives to the fullest and embrace the joys and challenges that come with aging.
In essence, the study of the human body and the aging process as a nurse has not only deepened my understanding of health and wellness but has also enriched my perspective on the beauty and complexity of life itself. It is a privilege and a responsibility to care for individuals as they journey through the stages of life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference in the lives of those I serve.

At 23 years old, my journey through the challenging landscape of nursing education has been a poignant tale of determination amidst adversity. As a dedicated Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) currently immersed in a rigorous full-time nursing program to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), the weight of homelessness bears heavily on my shoulders, forcing me to call my car not just a vehicle but a makeshift home, shared only with my loyal and comforting dog.

The nights are long and cold, the challenges of personal hygiene and basic necessities magnified by the lack of a permanent dwelling. Amidst the loneliness and isolation that often accompany homelessness, my dog stands as a faithful companion, providing a source of solace and companionship in the midst of adversity.

Losing my grandmother just two days before my birthday was a profoundly impactful and emotionally challenging experience that reshaped my perspective on life, loss, and the enduring strength of family bonds. The passing of my grandmother, a pillar of love and wisdom in our family, left a void that seemed insurmountable at the time, and navigating the grief that followed became a defining moment that significantly influenced my outlook on life.
My grandmother was not only a source of unconditional love and support but also a beacon of wisdom and guidance in our family. Her warm smile, comforting presence, and words of encouragement had always been a source of solace and inspiration for me. Her sudden departure just before my birthday cast a shadow of sadness over what should have been a celebratory occasion, amplifying the depth of loss and sorrow that we all felt.
In the midst of my own grief and shock, I found myself grappling with the overwhelming task of consoling my mother, who was devastated by the loss of her own mother. Seeing my mother's anguish and heartbreak in the wake of my grandmother's passing was a profound and sobering experience that required me to set aside my own emotions to be a source of strength and support for her.
In those moments of shared sorrow and mourning, I discovered a newfound depth of empathy and resilience within myself. Despite my own pain and sadness, I realized the importance of being there for my family, of offering a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear, and a comforting presence during a time of profound loss and grief. Through comforting my mother and sharing our memories of my grandmother, I found a sense of connection and solace that helped us navigate the turbulent waters of grief together.
The experience of losing my grandmother and supporting my mother through her grief profoundly shaped my understanding of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing the moments we have with our loved ones. It taught me the value of empathy, compassion, and being present for those we care about in times of need. The loss of my grandmother served as a poignant reminder of the impermanence of life and the significance of treasuring the relationships and memories we hold dear.
In the aftermath of this loss, I emerged with a renewed appreciation for the strength and resilience of my family, for the bonds that unite us in times of joy and sorrow, and for the enduring legacy of love and wisdom that my grandmother left behind. Her passing may have marked the end of an era, but it also sparked a journey of personal growth, introspection, and a deepened understanding of the profound impact that family has on shaping our lives and guiding us through moments of both joy and sorrow.

Navigating the challenges of pursuing not just one but two nursing programs while facing the harsh reality of homelessness has been an arduous journey that tested not only my resilience and determination but also my faith in something greater than myself. In these moments of adversity, my faith became a steadfast anchor, providing me with strength, hope, and a sense of purpose as I forged ahead on my path toward becoming a nurse.
The journey through nursing school is already a demanding and rigorous experience, requiring a significant amount of time, energy, and dedication. However, the added burden of homelessness during both my LVN and BSN programs created a layer of complexity that seemed insurmountable at times. The uncertainty of not having a stable place to call home, the constant worry about where I would sleep each night, and the challenges of balancing academic responsibilities with the struggles of daily survival weighed heavily on my shoulders.
During these moments of despair and doubt, it was my faith that served as a guiding light, illuminating a path forward when all seemed dark and uncertain. In the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles, I turned to prayer, meditation, and reflection to find solace and strength. My faith provided me with a sense of purpose and a belief that there was a higher power watching over me, guiding me through the storm towards calmer waters.
There were moments when it felt like I had hit rock bottom when the weight of my circumstances threatened to crush my spirit and drive. It was during these times of utter despair that my faith shone brightest, reminding me that there was a plan and a purpose for my struggles, even if I couldn't see it clearly in the midst of the storm.
Through the support of my faith community, the kindness of strangers, and the unwavering belief in a brighter future, I found the courage to continue moving forward, one step at a time. It was in these moments of vulnerability and desperation that I learned to surrender control and trust in something greater than myself, knowing that I was not alone in my struggles.
Despite the challenges and hardships I faced, my faith instilled in me a sense of resilience and hope that carried me through the darkest of times. It reminded me that I was capable of overcoming adversity, that my struggles were not in vain, and that there was a purpose to my journey, no matter how difficult it may seem.

For as long as I can remember I've always had a mental illness. It started when I was a sophomore in high school. I started failing my class, my boyfriend broke up with me on a very important day. I don't know what clicked but something did. I started to spiral and get worse. eventually, I developed an eating disorder and I wouldn't eat for days. I had no one to talk to. The friends I did tell them made fun of me for it. I felt like I deserved this pain so at some point I started hurting myself on purpose by overworking my body, and not eating and when I would injure myself, I wouldn't take care of it. When I tried to reach out to my parents they did not care. I just started pushing everybody away and I did not talk to anyone. I had no friends and I was slowly dying on the inside in front of my family.
After I graduated high school, I got a job and I continued my toxic behavior, learning how to mask my chronic cry for help. It was a very laborious job and it was easy to keep the habit. While there I fell in love with someone I thought I would spend the rest of my life with I was wrong. I was gaslit, manipulated and lied to for years and I started to self-harm. Every single day I prayed that my suffering would come to an end. I was too much of a coward. Around this time my mom got me a puppy. She thought it would be good for me. My new puppy did ease some of the lonely and empty feeling that I had. But the pain and pressure of self-doubt, self-pity, and low self-esteem were far too great.
It's hard to admit I have tried to take my own life on more than one occasion, But clear sites show that I was unsuccessful. I grew so tired of living and feeling the way that I did. but now I had the responsibility of an animal. I had to stay. And I thought to myself that if I stay, I don't want to be sad anymore. I don't want my life to be controlled by this toxic chemically altered mess in my head anymore. If i was going to live, I was going to live for myself. I mustered up the courage to get a psychiatrist before it was too late again. It was then that I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety and prescribed some medication.
As time went on, I cried less and less; and the feeling of emptiness went away. When I realized I was finally at peace and my mind and body weren't at war anymore. For the first time in YEARS, I cried tears of joy for finally being free. Sometimes I have bad days but I'm able to easily recover from them. It has been a full year now since then. I now go out and socialize with friends regularly and I now take care of my body inside and out (most of the time); I now have plans for the future that I cant wait to explore.
