Bio

My name is Cesar Martinez, and I am a senior from Athens, Texas. I recently got accepted from my top choice school (Ohio State University) and will need help paying for it since I'm out of state. I also come from a lower-income family, so I'll need to help my parents if I want to go to school. My goals are to attend Ohio State University and major in Biology. During undergrad, I plan to shadow dentists in my area to see if I wish to pursue Dentistry. After undergrad, I plan to apply to Dental school. I am most passionate about my education since my parents gave up theirs to immigrate to the States. I am a great candidate because I am one to keep going with my studies; regardless if it starts to get complicated, I'm always up for a challenge. Outside of school, I am involved in high school soccer and club soccer, where I travel 2 hours twice a week to practice and then play games on the weekends. I play in a Mexican league with three different teams in three different divisions in my free time. I also try to go to the gym every day at night after all my duties.

    Bold Goals Scholarship
My goals after high school are to attend the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, to major in Biology with a pre-dental track. During the summer breaks, I plan to come home and work with my dad in his landscaping company. While shadowing local dentists in my hometown to make sure I want to follow through with the Dental track. After my junior year of the spring semester in undergrad, I plan to take the DAT, the test required for future dentists to get into dental school. Depending on what I get on the DAT will give me a clearer picture of where I should apply. I want to return to Texas' A&Ms College of Dentistry or The Ohio States' College of Dentistry. After I graduate, I want to work for Dr. Briggs, a local dentist in my hometown. I hope to gain experience working under someone experienced and wish to move to Austin, Texas, and open up a bilingual clinic. My goal is to make a clinic where non-English speakers have the confidence to go to the doctor when they have an issue.
    Graduate Debt-Free Scholarship
My name is Cesar Martinez, and I am a Senior from Athens, Texas. I come from a low-income household, so I need to help my parents with my college tuition if I want to attend my dream school out of state (Ohio State University). I am involved in multiple clubs at my high school, such as the National Honor Society and Key Club, where I am treasurer. I typically spend half of my week playing high school soccer on varsity and club soccer outside of school. I also play at our local Mexican league during my free days when I don't have high school games. I'm also a gym rat who goes five days a week. To avoid graduating college debt-free, I'm working with my dad in landscaping during the weekends and putting that money into a college savings account. Over the summer, I plan to work with him and set aside all my earnings for tuition. I'm doing my part to help pay for my school and apply for as many scholarships as possible. I plan to keep applying for scholarships through Bold.org throughout my undergrad. I will start working my first or second semester during college, depending on how well I handle the workload. The rec center at Ohio State or a local gym would be the ideal job during my college years. This job would give me time to study while there is no need for assistance upfront, and it's also where I'll spend my free time. I would also love to become a personal trainer and teach others the correct lifting form. I have saved my parents a few thousand dollars from the college credit hours from our high school's dual credit enrollment program. I've taken two college classes in my first and second year, four in my junior year, and two in my senior year. Some of the core classes I've taken in this program are English 1301/02, US History 1301/02, and College Algebra. My parents will pay the rest of the college tuition that scholarships are unable to cover. I don't want my parents to pay my sister and I's full tuition, especially since she's planning on going to grad school. My parents are very supportive and always mention that they'll pay for my college wherever I go, one way or another. Under one condition, as long as I stay in school and stay out of trouble.
    Bold Financial Literacy Scholarship
I believe in saving your money on things that are crucial and necessary to live rather than buying items to put you in a better mood for the week when you're eager for your package to get delivered. There have been countless times where I have ordered something just because I want my week to be exciting when I come home. It comes to bite me in the future when I desperately need the money, and I used most of the money I had saved up. When I was 14 years old, I was obsessed with buying v-bucks in Fortnite to buy cosmetic items such as skins, emotes, and pickaxes. I spent nearly $1,000 on the game with the money I earned working with my dad. To this day, this is one of my biggest regrets. I should have saved all of that money for a better cause. As I grow older, I'm slowly stopping my desire of wanting to buy more and more items online when I could be putting that money in my savings account, saving up for college, or my truck payments. Right now, I work with my dad and only use the money for things I need and save the rest for college savings. I don't want to depend on my parent's money.
