Hi, I’m Cedric Geter, a business major at Skyline College. I’ve worked hard to achieve academic success and was proud to make the Dean’s List for both Spring and Fall semesters in 2025. I’m passionate about building a future where I can create and run my own businesses, especially in the selfcare and beauty industries.
Beyond business, I have a lot of other passions, from exploring new cultures to connecting with my community through leadership and student organizations like the Black Student Union and Umoja Astep program,. I’m someone who is ambitious, driven, and always looking for opportunities to learn and grow.
I believe I’m a great candidate for this scholarship because I’m committed to turning my goals into action. I work hard, balance school, work, and leadership roles, and I’m ready to take on challenges that help me grow academically, personally, and professionally.

My name is Cedric Geter, I’m 20 years old and I’m a college student from the Bay Area, born and raised, I moved around a lot when I was younger but always carried the same values with me, resilience, ambition, and a deep appreciation for community/ relationships.
As the oldest of my grandmother’s grandchildren, I’ve always felt a responsibility to set the example. I have younger siblings and cousins who look up to me, and that motivates me every day to push myself further, not just for my own success, but to show them what’s possible. I currently live on my own, balancing school, work, and financial responsibilities. Managing bills while being a full-time student hasn’t been easy, but it has taught me discipline, independence, and how to stay focused even when things feel overwhelming.
I am a business major at Skyline College, involved in both the Black Student Union and the Umoja-ASTEP learning community. Through these spaces, I’ve found a sense of belonging and purpose. As the social media coordinator for BSU and an outreach ambassador at my college, I actively help welcome and guide incoming students, especially high school seniors transitioning into college. I take pride in being someone others can look to for support, just as I’ve relied on community in my own journey.
Over the past year, I’ve grown tremendously, especially in areas that once challenged me, like public speaking and stepping outside of my comfort zone. I’ve pushed myself to show up, speak up, and be present, even when I felt nervous or unsure. That growth has led to accomplishments like being named to the Dean’s List for both the Spring and Fall 2025 semesters, something I’m incredibly proud of.
One of the most important opportunities in front of me right now is studying abroad in South Africa this summer through Umoja-ASTEP. This experience represents more than just travel, it’s a chance for me to expand my perspective, connect with a different culture, and bring that knowledge back to my community. I want to learn, grow, and become someone who can make a meaningful impact, especially in communities that look like mine.
In the future, I plan to combine my business background with my passion for self care and health. Whether through barbering, aesthetics, or a career in the medical field, I want to create spaces and opportunities that uplift others, promote confidence, and support overall well being. I believe that helping people feel good, both physically and mentally, is a powerful way to make a difference.
Receiving this scholarship would relieve a significant financial burden and allow me to fully pursue opportunities like studying abroad without being held back by cost. More importantly, it would be an investment in someone who is committed to growth, community, and using their experiences to uplift others.
I am determined to continue building a future where I not only succeed, but also create opportunities, inspire those around me, and give back to the communities that have shaped me.
