Hello, my name is Cecelia Amparan and I am a third-year liberal studies major at California State University, San Marcos. Growing up, I always loved school. I loved school so much that even when money was tight, I used to beg my mom to buy me yellow Ticonderoga pencils, Expo markers, and whiteboards so I could play "teacher" with my cousins at home. My love for school has followed me throughout my education, and I have continued to dedicate myself to school and persevered through the financial hardships that my family has always experienced, to get where I am today. I am currently an AVID Tutor at Mission Hills High school, and I have been a part of this program since my senior year of high school in 2019 when I became a Tutor and was able to work alongside students in their preparation to attend college. It was here, where I discovered my love for helping others, specifically towards their success in school. Then and now, I love that I am able to share my knowledge and personal experience in education with the students that I tutor, in that I am able to provide them with the guidance that I wish I had when I was a student, looking to attend college. When I was a high school student, I knew that teaching was my calling, but I did not know how to get there. Despite my association with the AVID program as a high school senior, I became discouraged in my ability to attend college due to financial hardships. However, as a first-generation college student and Chicana woman in the twenty-first century, I knew that while a college education might be difficult to attain, I had to have it. I knew that I loved learning and that a college education could advance my career. I knew that if I just applied myself, I could succeed in my education and make my parents proud. I knew that education was a privilege and that I could rewrite my destiny as a first-generation Chicana woman, to be anything I wanted, because my passion for learning and drive for success is what has gotten me this far, and will continue to make waves in the field of education. As a junior here at CSUSM I am just as dedicated to my education and in love with learning as I have always been. In my time here, I have learned so much about myself and the field of education, and I stand firm in my belief that I can make the world a better place by teaching students the knowledge they need to become more intelligent, tolerant, and confident individuals overall. Every student deserves access to an enriching and equitable education, and I hope to further my education here at CSUSM with financial assistance, so I can learn how to establish a quality education and become the teacher that students need me to be. Thank you for your time and consideration.
