Bio

Ever since I was a child I've had a passionate interest in American history. I remember sitting in fifth grade history class learning about the American Revolution and being fascinated with the application of eighteenth-century history to today's world. Since then, I've dedicated myself to the discipline of history and how it has contributed to the systems and societies we are a part of in the present. As I've moved along in my educational career, I've learned even more history about my own Asian American community and how it has contributed to the disheartening events of the present. Because of this, I was moved to join the Asian American Student Union at my school. AASU is the political umbrella organization that acts as an advocate for Asian American students. We work to make the campus and the community a welcoming space. Throughout my career, I have also tried pursuing roles specific to historical scholarship. Therefore, I began my internship with the New York State Museum. Here, I create promotional material, edit interview videos, post on social medias, and meet regularly with the team to plan projects. I am absolutely thrilled to have these opportunities, and in the future I wish to use my experience to make myself an outstanding professor at a university one day. I have a burning passion for history and educating people in history. History is the study of continuity and change overtime, meaning it is absolutely vital for younger generations to be aware of it. I would love to contribute to the future generation's understanding of history and build a better world.

    Future Female Educators Scholarship
History is the study of continuity and change overtime. This has become apparent to me in light of recent events. Specifically, the Covid-19 Pandemic. As an Asian American woman, the rise of Asian American hate crimes due to the pandemic has affected me and my family greatly. We worry about the safety of our family members, especially the women in our family, and their safety within the community in light of the 2021 Atlanta Spa Shootings and harassment of Asian American women. Although, this harassment and violence against Asian Americans was never new. Ever since the 1790 Citizenship Act, Asian American individuals were barred from U.S. citizenship. Then, the Page Act of 1875 gave Asian women a reputation as prostitutes. Then, the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act was in effect. I could go on about the history of Asian Americans in the U.S., but that is besides the point. Perhaps if Asian American history was acknowledged more, taught more, and used as a lesson, we would not be facing these hate crimes today. Therefore, I want to be an educator, specifically a professor at a university, who educates the newer generations. I want them to be enriched in their own history and educate themselves on every community's specific history in this country. With this, they will be more informed individuals and better equipped to communicate and interact with all people. As well, the lives of marginalized groups, like Asian Americans, will be ameliorated. This is why education is important to me. This is why pursuing a career in education is vital.
