As I grew up in a country where littering and throwing away perfectly good food, I was raised eating leftovers from restaurants and picking up trash near streets. As I grow into an adult my focus on the environment and political ambitions has heightened. Having a government that understands and believes in global warming or climate change is important for the country to enact things for change. As we go into the new term of the 47th president, who has already pulled out of one of the major agreements and promised to "drill baby, drill", we can start to see that he isn't fond of the idea of climate change, and if he does; he doesn't want to do anything to reverse it. The repercussions of progressing with the things that damage our climate will heighten and speed up the effects we are experiencing now. The loss of ice at our poles and the consistent hammering of natural events throughout the world will surpass our expectations of those clueless. Some cities are lucky enough to have companies that are given the opportunity to buy recycling bins and garbage bins like my city Hamilton. Some aren't able to have any type of recycling; which means that things like plastic milk jugs or glass sit in landfills for years when they could be repurposed for other things. The need for mandatory recycling, sustainability, and global action against climate change is urgent. The consequences of ignoring these issues will be devastating for the planet and future generations. However, this challenge is not irreversible if nations cooperate and individuals and communities take responsibility for their actions.
