I volunteer at local events such as 5K runs, Christmas on the Square, and Kidpalooza, enriching the lives of children in our area. Helping others who are struggling with addiction is deeply important to me because I have seen firsthand the devastating impact it can have on individuals and their families. Addiction is a complex and painful struggle that often leads to feelings of isolation, hopelessness, and despair. When someone you care about is caught in this cycle, it affects not only their life but the lives of everyone around them. My personal experience with my brother, who battled alcohol addiction and tragically passed away by suicide at the young age of 26, has made this cause especially meaningful to me. His struggle showed me how vital it is to offer support, understanding, and resources to those fighting addiction, so they don’t feel alone and can find a path toward recovery. It is important to me to help others because addiction is more than just a physical dependence; it affects mental health, relationships, and overall well-being. Many people don’t get the help they need because of stigma, lack of awareness, or insufficient access to treatment. By dedicating myself to helping those struggling with addiction, I want to be part of the solution that breaks down these barriers. I want to be someone who listens without judgment, provides hope, and connects individuals with the right care and support systems. In my career, I plan to use my skills and knowledge to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by addiction. Whether through counseling, healthcare, social work, or community outreach, my goal is to create safe spaces where people can seek help without fear or shame. I want to be involved in education and prevention efforts as well, helping people understand addiction as a disease rather than a moral failing. By raising awareness and offering compassionate care, I hope to reduce the stigma and encourage more people to reach out for help early on. Additionally, I want to advocate for better resources and policies that support addiction treatment and mental health services. Many communities lack the funding or infrastructure needed to provide comprehensive care, and this gap can make recovery feel impossible for those struggling. My career will be a platform to push for change, ensuring that treatment options are accessible, affordable, and tailored to individual needs. Ultimately, helping others who are struggling with addiction is a way to honor my brother’s memory and turn a painful loss into a force for good. It’s a commitment to making sure no one else feels as alone or hopeless as he did. Through empathy, education, and action, I believe I can contribute to healing and recovery, giving people the chance to rebuild their lives and find hope again. This mission is not just a career choice, but a personal calling born from experience and compassion.

Choosing the field of healthcare as a registered nurse (RN) is a decision rooted in a deep desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. For me, nursing represents more than just a career; it is a calling to care for others during some of their most vulnerable moments. The decision to pursue nursing came from a combination of personal experiences and a passion for helping people heal, both physically and emotionally. Healthcare has always fascinated me because it combines science, compassion, and problem-solving. Nursing, in particular, offers the unique opportunity to connect with patients on a personal level while using medical knowledge to improve their health outcomes. I chose this field because I want to be there for people when they need support the most—whether they are facing illness, injury, or chronic conditions. The role of an RN is critical in providing comfort, education, and advocacy, and I am motivated by the chance to be that trusted presence for patients and their families. In the future, I want to use my nursing degree to contribute to patient-centered care that emphasizes respect, empathy, and holistic healing. I am especially interested in working in areas where I can support individuals through complex health challenges, such as addiction recovery, mental health, or chronic disease management. My goal is to not only treat physical symptoms but to address the emotional and psychological aspects of health, helping patients regain control over their lives. Furthermore, I want to be an advocate for health education and prevention. Many health issues can be managed or avoided through awareness and lifestyle changes, and nurses play a key role in educating communities. By using my degree, I hope to empower people with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their health. This proactive approach can reduce hospitalizations and improve quality of life, which is a rewarding outcome for both patients and healthcare providers. I also see nursing as a platform for lifelong learning and growth. The healthcare field is constantly evolving, and nurses must stay informed about the latest treatments, technologies, and best practices. I am committed to continuing my education and possibly specializing in areas like critical care, pediatrics, or community health. This dedication will allow me to provide the highest level of care and adapt to the changing needs of patients. Ultimately, pursuing a career as an RN is about more than just a job—it’s about making a positive impact in people’s lives every day. I want to be a source of hope, healing, and support, helping patients navigate their health journeys with dignity and compassion. My nursing degree will be the foundation for a career dedicated to service, learning, and advocacy, and I am excited for the opportunities to come.

Going back to school is a significant and sometimes challenging decision that requires courage, determination, and hope. For me, this courage was built from a combination of personal reflection, support from family and friends, and a strong desire to improve my future. Life often presents obstacles that can make continuing education difficult, but it also offers moments that remind us why learning is so important. One of the main sources of my courage was understanding the true value of education in shaping my life and career. I came to realize that returning to school would open doors to new opportunities and allow me to pursue my passions more fully. Whether it’s gaining new skills, advancing in a profession like nursing, or fulfilling a personal goal, education is a powerful tool for growth and transformation. This awareness helped me overcome many fears and doubts about going back to the classroom, knowing that the effort would be worth it in the long run. Another vital factor was the support I received from family and friends. When I shared my plans with them, their belief in me gave me the confidence I needed and made the journey less intimidating. Their encouragement helped me push through moments of uncertainty and reminded me that my goals were worth pursuing. Having a strong support network is essential because it provides both emotional strength and practical help when balancing school with other responsibilities such as work, family, and daily life. Reflecting on my past experiences and challenges also gave me courage. Life’s obstacles sometimes make us question ourselves, but they can also teach resilience and determination. I realized that going back to school was not just about academics but about proving to myself that I could overcome difficulties and keep moving forward despite setbacks. This mindset gave me the inner strength needed to face the unknown and embrace change. Setting clear goals was another key to building courage. I spent time thinking deeply about what I wanted to achieve through education and how it would impact my life. Having a clear vision gave me purpose and direction, making the path ahead seem more manageable. Each step toward enrollment, attending classes, and completing assignments was fueled by hope and determination to reach those goals. Breaking the process into smaller, achievable steps helped me stay motivated and focused. Additionally, I recognized that learning is a lifelong process. Returning to school was not just a one-time event but part of a continuous journey of growth and self-improvement. This mindset helped me stay motivated even when challenges arose, reminding me that each lesson learned and skill gained would contribute to my future success. In summary, the courage to go back to school came from understanding the value of education, the support of loved ones, reflecting on my resilience, setting clear goals, and embracing lifelong learning. These factors combined to give me the strength and hope needed to pursue my dreams and create a better future through education. Going back to school is not always easy, but with the right mindset and support, it becomes a powerful step toward personal and professional growth.

Pursuing a degree in nursing is a deeply meaningful choice for me because it combines my passion for science with my desire to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Nursing is more than just a career; it’s a calling to serve others during some of their most vulnerable moments. I want to become a nurse because I believe in the power of compassionate care to heal not only the body but also the spirit. From a young age, I have been drawn to helping others and have always admired the dedication and empathy nurses show to their patients. Nursing offers a unique opportunity to build personal connections while applying medical knowledge to improve health outcomes. It is a profession that requires both technical skill and emotional intelligence, qualities I am eager to develop. By pursuing a nursing degree, I aim to gain the expertise needed to provide high-quality care and to support patients through illness, recovery, and health maintenance. I also want to contribute to my community by being a reliable and caring healthcare provider. In many communities, including mine, access to compassionate and skilled nursing care can be limited. I hope to fill that gap by offering attentive and personalized care that respects each individual’s dignity and needs. Whether it’s educating families about health practices, supporting chronic disease management, or providing comfort during difficult times, I want to be a source of strength and hope. Moreover, nursing plays a critical role in promoting public health and wellness. I am passionate about preventative care and health education, which are essential for reducing illness and improving quality of life in any community. By working as a nurse, I can help raise awareness about healthy lifestyles, encourage early detection of diseases, and support mental health initiatives. These efforts not only benefit individuals but also strengthen the community as a whole. In addition, nursing is a profession that offers continuous learning and growth. Healthcare is always evolving, and I look forward to staying informed about new treatments, technologies, and best practices. This commitment to lifelong learning will enable me to provide the best possible care and adapt to the changing needs of my community. Losinger Nursing Scholarship
My personal inspiration for pursuing a career in nursing comes from a deep desire to help others and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Growing up in the Lake of the Ozarks area, I’ve seen firsthand how important compassionate healthcare is in a close-knit community. My experiences working at Central Ozarks Medical Center where they provide medical, dental, and behavioral health services have shown me the impact that nurses have—not just in treating illnesses but in providing comfort and support during difficult times. I’ve always been drawn to roles that involve caring for others, and nursing feels like the perfect way to combine my passion for science with my commitment to service. Additionally, my family has been a strong motivator. As a mother, I understand the importance of health and well-being, and I want to be a source of strength for patients and their families. My goal is to provide patient-centered care that respects each individual’s unique needs, offering empathy and understanding alongside medical expertise. Pursuing nursing also aligns with my long-term ambition to continue growing in healthcare, possibly becoming a doctor in the future. This career path excites me because it offers lifelong learning, room for growth and the chance to positively impact my community every day. Together, these experiences and motivations inspire me to dedicate myself to nursing, where I can contribute meaningfully to the health and comfort of those around me. The phrase “human touch” to me means more than just physical contact; it represents the compassion, empathy, and connection that healthcare providers bring to patient care. Human touch is about recognizing the person behind the illness and responding with kindness and understanding. It’s the gentle reassurance of a nurse holding a patient’s hand, the warmth in a caregiver’s voice, and the attentiveness that makes patients feel valued and respected. Human touch can significantly impact patient care by fostering trust and emotional healing. When patients feel genuinely cared for, they are more likely to cooperate with treatment plans and experience reduced anxiety and stress. This connection can improve overall health outcomes because healing is not only physical but emotional as well. For example, a comforting touch can ease pain, calm fears, and provide hope during challenging moments. In nursing, human touch also helps bridge communication gaps and makes patients feel less isolated. Especially in times of vulnerability, knowing that someone is present and empathetic can be incredibly powerful. It reminds patients that they are not alone in their journey and that their caregivers see them as whole individuals, not just cases or symptoms. Moreover, human touch fosters a sense of dignity and respect, which is essential in healthcare settings where patients may feel vulnerable or frightened. It reassures them that their humanity is acknowledged beyond their medical condition. This emotional support can be just as critical as medication or treatment in promoting recovery. Ultimately, human touch is a vital part of holistic healthcare. It enriches the clinical environment and enhances the healing process by combining medical skill with genuine human connection. This is why I believe that cultivating empathy and compassion is just as important as technical knowledge in nursing. By embracing the human touch, nurses can create a therapeutic atmosphere that nurtures both the body and the spirit, leading to more meaningful and effective care.
