This summer I dedicated myself to volunteering at food pantries, food kitchens, and low-income housing centers. When I first started volunteering at the beginning of summer, I was a little nervous on how I was going to be able to assist people in need since I’d never done anything like that before. But, since it was my last summer before high school ended, I wanted to take on a new challenge.
At the food kitchens, my mornings were spent making meals and serving them during the lunch rush. I was able to connect with new people as I served them and made sure that they had everything they needed. These interactions improved my communication skills and it was rewarding to see how my actions could brighten someone's day. During my afternoons at food pantries, I would assist people by helping them select fresh groceries to go home with. I learned how to manage my time and patience as the line would often be very long and we had to ensure that everyone was served by closing time.
Lastly, I volunteered at a low-income housing center called Pathlight Home where I assisted with administrative tasks such as making photocopies, organizing the office, and helping prospective residents with any questions they may have. I was able to improve my active listening skills since I had to be attentive to ensure I was doing what I was asked.
At the end of each day, I felt like no matter how small my tasks were, I was able to make someone’s day a little easier. The skills I’ve learned are not only valuable to my future career in business, but have also been integrated into my daily life. Volunteering has also taught me to take risks as I decided to try something I’ve never done before and it turned out to be one of my favorite summer memories.
Since then, I have continued volunteering in school by tutoring and participating in campus cleanups. I plan to go back to volunteering at food kitchens and low-income housing centers when I have a break from school.
I plan to use my leadership skills to create a positive impact on my university community by fostering collaboration, encouraging inclusivity, and driving meaningful change. Whether it’s leading student organizations, mentoring peers, or launching initiatives that support small businesses or underserved populations, I aim to be a leader who listens first and acts with purpose.
Personally, these experiences will help me grow in confidence, emotional intelligence, and decision-making—skills that are essential for my long-term goal of becoming a CEO and running my own company. Professionally, I’ll build a strong network, gain real-world experience in managing people and projects, and learn how to navigate diverse perspectives—preparing me to lead teams and create lasting impact in any environment.

The question remains the same no matter where I turn or how it’s reworded: What do you want to do in the future, and how can it change the world? It baffles me how a 16-year-old is expected to answer. Growing up, I was never sure of a career path, so I said something new and exciting each time. One day I wanted to be an artist, and the next I wanted to be a neurosurgeon. But I couldn’t find anything that resonated with me—nothing that made me feel like I could make an actual difference to anyone, let alone the world. Aside from being labeled “the smart kid,” I never had any unique talents that could distinguish me from others. In middle school, I felt determined to know what career I wanted to pursue, as almost everyone around me had an idea. I decided upon business.
Why would anyone want to associate themselves with the straight lines and gray suits of the corporate world? Whereas many may see the stuffiness, I see the beauty of an opportunity to change the world. The business world allows the creation of innovation and creativity. It’s a place where you can create the most outlandish ideas yet still be able to create something that can change lives. One crazy idea can push the boundaries of what was thought possible and be the solution to a problem. I find beauty in knowing that, working together on a global scale, all these new inventions can connect us in ways once thought impossible and allow us to share knowledge and diverse perspectives to change the world as we know it. And that can be done using one idea; now imagine thousands.
If I could describe myself using one word, it would be driven. I’ve always had a drive to make this world a better place, and if I can’t change the world, then maybe I can improve one person’s life. My dream college is Columbia University in the heart of New York City and I plan to pursue a business degree. I plan to use my business degree to first gain some work experience in the business field through a company and I plan to start my own company in the future. I am not yet quite sure what type of company I want to run but I want to create and sell something that can help benefit people. The biggest adversity that I've had to overcome is self-doubt. I am very critical of myself and my work so learning that what I am doing is the right thing was a huge journey that I've had to overcome. I've had to do a lot of self-reflection to help me conquer these feelings and emerge stronger than I was before. I think my self-doubt stemmed from a lack of confidence in my abilities. I am usually around a bunch of highly educated and knowledgeable people so it is often really easy for me to compare what I know and what I've accomplished to what they've done. It would often get to the point where I would have a nagging voice in my head that would often make me question my decisions. But, in the end, I was able to break away from the shackles of self-doubt and have embraced a more confident and empowered version of myself.

While math isn’t my strongest subject, there are many reasons why I deeply appreciate it. Math isn’t just about numbers and calculations, it’s about being able to understand different patterns and problem-solving. One of the main reasons I love math is the feeling of success that comes after solving a really hard problem. The feeling of being able to finally understand a complex problem makes me feel like I am on the top of the world.’’
Another reason why I love math is because it is everywhere in my daily life. From managing money to measuring ingredients for cooking, knowing math is important for being successful in the modern world that I live in.
Furthermore, math helps us understand the world around us. Math allows us to analyze information and make smart choices. This is especially important to me because I want to major in business and math is a huge part of that field. Whether it's predicting the path of an object or understanding population growth, math is a strong tool for learning about the world around us.
In conclusion, there are many reasons why I love math. From the feeling of success I get from completing a problem to its usefulness in understanding the world around us, math is something that everyone can enjoy and value.

“I Matter” Scholarship
One of the times I helped someone in need was during a group project in my Business Management class. I was working with two other girls, and one of them was inattentive while the other one did not speak English. As the leader of the group, I had to decide how to best lead the group to ensure our success and secure a good grade. I chose to assign small tasks to each person with mini-deadlines to make it easier for them to complete the work without feeling overwhelmed. Also, I used Google Translate to communicate instructions to the non-English speaking team members and got assistance from the teacher when necessary.
Reflecting on this experience, I believe I was able to gain valuable insight into leading a group facing diverse challenges. However, if I had been given the chance to approach the situation differently, I would have sought their input on how to approach each task, instead of assigning tasks based on my judgment. I feel like this would have created a more collaborative and inclusive working environment.
I think that it is quite difficult to lead a group with diverse personalities and language barriers and I think it was a significant learning experience for me. It taught me the importance of being adaptable and having effective communication in leadership. I realized that as a leader, it is important to be flexible and open to different working styles and individual needs within the group.
Delegating tasks with mini-deadlines turned out to be an effective strategy for managing the workload and ensuring that each member could contribute to the project. This not only allowed us to stay organized but also reduced the feeling of being overwhelmed, especially for the inattentive team members. However, looking back at the situation, I realized that involving the team in the task allocation process could have allowed them to feel more committed to the project.
The language barrier presented a unique challenge, and I think that using Google Translate to communicate with one of the team members was the best solution considering the circumstances. It allowed us to overcome the language barrier and ensured that everyone understood their tasks and responsibilities.
Overall, this experience provided me with valuable lessons in leadership, teamwork, and communication. I feel like I was able to greatly assist both members of the group because I was able to ensure that they both got good grades. After all, they were failing the class.
Netflix and Scholarships!
My favorite Netflix show is Stranger Things! If you want a good horror, thriller, and mystery show, then I think that Stranger Things is a great show for you to binge-watch over the weekend! At first, I didn't want to watch this show because I thought it was pretty dumb and illogical. It didn't make sense why people would be interested in a show about monsters. But, my lovely friend likes Stranger Things and she was able to successfully convince me to watch the show. I saw my brother watching it and so I decided to join in. Ever since that day, I fell in love with the show. Stranger Things is so much fun to watch as you will be entertained from start to finish. I feel that this show has all the things that a great show needs such as action, comedy, suspense, and drama. When the show first aired in 2016, the characters were all young and over the seasons they have all grown up. They went from being elementary school students to high school students and it's so fun and nostalgic to see the characters evolve over the seasons. I watched all 4 seasons of this show at once so I was able to see all the changes occur at once. Being able to see all the friendships, romances, and family relationships adds depth and allows the viewers to understand and relate to the characters. I feel like being able to see this in the show helped me to reminisce about my past since I could relate to the characters in certain situations as they grew up. All of this makes the show seem more than a typical horror or mystery show but you feel as if you know the characters and have watched them grow up over the years. I think that the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, did an amazing job in making sure that the genres didn't overlap to the point where the show seemed boring or focused on only one thing. If you aren't a fan of the horror and mystery genre as I am, I think this is a great way to dig deeper into the genre. Also, if you are a huge fan of the 80s aesthetic, Stranger Things captures this with high-quality production. Another thing is the soundtrack. When season 4 of Stranger Things came out, the song "Running up That Hill" by Kate Bush had everyone in a chokehold whether you were on TikTok or watching this show. All in all, if you have a weekend to binge-watch any show and want to get into a new genre, I highly recommend you to watch Stranger Things. If not for the sheer fun of watching a new show, hopefully, you watch Stranger Things because of me.
Barbie Dream House Scholarship
If I were to build my very own Barbie Dream House, it would be a mansion located in Venice, Italy. I like Venetian architecture which consists of Gothic and Eastern styles so that is how the outside would look like. I would love to have a pale pink Barbie mansion that faces the beautiful ocean in Jesolo. Moving on to the fabulous features inside my Barbie mansion, I would of course include the iconic pink color that makes Barbie who she is with some pastel colors and white to blend everything. But, I feel like the pink tends to be a bit strong so I would prefer a pale or light pink which for me would make the mansion feel more modern and joyous. I would make sure to have the elevator that opens with the little gate because I think it's so adorable and it's a nice mix between the original Barbie house and a modern and efficient house. Another important part of Barbie is her gigantic wardrobe which is seen in the shows and movies. Barbie has an extensive and well-organized closet filled with tons of clothes. I would want that in my mansion because I feel like you can never have too many clothes and having more clothes means more cute outfit choices! As we all know, Barbie is very extra and over the top. I would have a fully equipped Michelin-star kitchen with a large dining room attached and a large pantry that would have all my favorite snacks. I like gaming so I would want a nice office and I would put all my cute stuffed animals on display. Outside, I would be sure to include a ginormous pool with a slide and a place to roast marshmallows so me and my friends can hang out. Moving on upstairs, I want a very boho and aesthetic style room that overlooks the beach with a balcony so I can go out and get fresh air whenever I want. I would be sure to include a movie theater so I can watch all the Barbie movies to my heart's content. Last but not least, I would make sure that there are fresh flowers all around my mansion because it would make my home smell nice and fresh while also looking beautiful. Even though this is only a dream, who knows, maybe it might become a reality!
“Stranger Things” Fanatic Scholarship
If I could pick any three characters it would be Eleven, Vecna, and Jim Hopper. First off, I would choose Eleven and Vecna because they both have superpowers of course! Now I know this isn't ideal considering their past. But, they both came from the same lab and they have a lot of the same powers. Also, Eleven is very courageous and creative and I feel like she would be able to break into Vecna's sarcastic and deadpan personality to make him work for the common good. Kind of like one of those bad guys tuned good situations. If that were to happen, they would make an amazing team because they are both very, very powerful and they would be unstoppable if they worked together. Now, you may be wondering where Jim Hopper comes into play. Well, I feel like no matter how unlikely this team may be, they would make an awesome team. Jim Hopper is a natural leader and he is very good at using information and his powers of deduction to solve crimes. This is a very good skill to have when facing a brand-new supernatural threat. He likes to sometimes break and go against the rules which I feel fits Eleven's skill of being creative and being able to think outside of the box. Overall, I feel like Eleven, Vecna, and Jim Hopper would make an amazing team based on their personality types and individual skills.

I feel like the Ode to Millennials-Gen Z text is the perfect adaptation of the duty and relationship of the Millennials and Gen-Z generation. There are so many similarities and differences between both generations.
I feel as if the older generation created all these policies, rules, laws, and precedents and they are now all backfiring. As the Millennials are now getting older, all of their mistakes are now falling on the new generation, Gen Z. And even then, we still face many of the same struggles that they did such as low income and low unemployment as mentioned in the text. The difference is that Millennials accepted the problems of their generation with a sense of duty and responsibility to fix things as best as they could and understood the burden that it caused. The problem is that many Millennials do nothing to try and fix how those same problems may affect the future generations because many of them feel as if it doesn’t have anything to do with them currently and how it is the next generation’s turn to put in the work.
If we look at Gen Z, there are usually two sides to the story: people who want to put in the effort and work to make the world a better place or those who couldn’t care less and decide to do nothing but accept and complain. I will say, however, that both generations have faced different challenges. Millennials have had to deal with things like the Great Depression and World War 2 while Gen-Z has to deal with a bad economy and a world filled with greed and corruption that challenges everyone’s moral aspects which are both mentioned in the text. Many people in Gen-Z do stand up against these problems and work their hardest to try and make the world a better place for all generations to come and want the older generation to simply get out of the way so they can do what they need to do. On the other hand, some simply feel as if those problems don’t affect them directly and they have no reason to worry about those issues.
There was one line in the text that truly stood out to me. It said, “Yet so many of our youth are excited to be a part of life!". I feel like this statement is relatable to both generations. Growing up, we have all had times when we have wanted to act a little more grown than our age required. We have all had those times when we got excited about getting older and getting to do more “grown” things. This is something that everyone can relate to no matter what generation they are from because we don’t think of all the hardships that we will have to face but instead the happiness of being free without parental control.
All in all, I feel like Gen-Z both can and cannot become “The Greatest Generation 2.0”. On one hand, we have a bunch of people who could care less about the situations at hand. They have the mindset that they are just here until the day they die and they don’t need to do anything that helps this world in any way for not only themselves but for generations to come. Those are the people who are prohibiting Gen-Z from becoming “The Greatest Generation 2.0”. Other people in Gen-Z are very passionate about making the world a better place before they leave and they are the ones who are going to turn this generation into the “Greatest Generation 2.0”. I believe that it is very much possible because nothing is impossible but it will take a lot of people who are willing to make that change.
Charles Pulling Sr. Memorial Scholarship
Hi! My name is Cassline Mesidor and I think that I deserve to win this scholarship. My academic goal is to graduate with my AICE Diploma and be top 20 in my graduating class. I know that it is going to take a lot of time and devotion but I am willing to put in the hard work to be successful in the long run. It is also very competitive among all the students in my school but I am very determined to get it done. This is why I have decided to get a head start on college since my junior year because I know it is going to take a lot of hard work especially because I want to attend an Ivy League school.
My goal in life is to be successful. And I know how cliche that sounds because everyone says that. But, I truly have an inner drive to do the best I can to succeed in my life. When I am older, I want to work in the business field. Specifically, I want to work with a company for a few years to gain some experience and then I want to start my own company. I am most passionate about making this world a better place before I leave it. I want to know that when I’ve passed I’ve contributed something meaningful or life-changing to society. I want to know that whether I have helped 1 person or a million people, I have in some small way contributed something to make their lives a little more easier.
I think I am a great candidate because I love hard work. I am committed to working hard and new challenges are what excite me. This is why I think I deserve to win this scholarship.
