I am a senior at Fayette County High School, where, through perseverance, I have grown into an honor roll student. While I am proud of my academic growth, I have found my true voice and purpose through leadership and service to my community. Whether performing as First Chair Flute in the Symphonic Band, spinning flags in Color Guard, or mentoring younger musicians, the arts have taught me confidence, discipline, and how to uplift those around me. Music and visual performance have strengthened my identity and shown me how much I enjoy helping others grow. I take pride in supporting underclassmen not only in their musical skills but in developing confidence and discipline. As a woman entering the field of Astrophysics, I am acutely aware that I am stepping into a space where I am underrepresented. Women, particularly women of color, make up a small fraction of physics degree holders. But finding the story of Mary Jackson and the women of Hidden Figures changed my perspective. They taught me that my presence in the lab is a form of resistance and that diversity in background leads to diversity in thought. I want to be the representation I searched for as a young girl. I want to show the next generation that a scientist isn't just someone who solves equations in isolation; she is a leader who uses her knowledge to uplift her community. By succeeding in this field, I hope to leave the door open wider than I found it, ensuring that the next girl with a telescope knows exactly where she belongs.
