Bio

I am a Black African American female whose future goal is to be a nurse and minor in filmaking. I attend Willowridge High school. I aspire to be a guardian for my little brother and a caretaker for my mother. I also aspire to give patients a sense of peace and aid them to be the best version of themselves. One of my biggest goals is making a big impact on patients and the health field itself. These aspirations motivate me to take on the rigorous career pathway of nursing. I am moved by music as I listen to all types of genres and sub-genres of music. My favorite artists are SZA, jhene aiko, and Kendrick Lamar.

Many are driven or motivated by mentors, teachers, family members, or anything that may appear encouraging. I am motivated by the future responsibility of being the guardian of my younger brother and the current caretaker for my mother. I am the eldest of two raised by a single mother who is battling Multiple Sclerosis. My mother began to struggle with weakness and stumble when walking when I was about two years old. Over the years, her health steadily deteriorated without a proper diagnosis. Initially, she was misdiagnosed with a mental illness. Although unfortunate, an open case with Children's Protective Services resulting in my brother and I being removed from our mother's care turned out to be beneficial. It led my mother to seek answers, resulting in a proper diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. MS has caused lesions to attack my mother's brain and spine, which, unfortunately, affects the signals that her brain sends to her body. She is currently immobile, unable to write, and is losing her vision. Even though she is immobile and struggles to accept that this is her reality, she still sets expectations and reiterates the importance of academic excellence. She has done a great job of rearing me into who I am now. She taught me never to give up and to work hard. I will carry those things with me for the remainder of my life. She never allowed our family to struggle and encouraged me to dream big. My commitment to my academic journey is also driven by my goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. I've worked diligently to maintain good grades because I knew it would make my mother smile and earn admission into a great nursing program. I have remained focused and dedicated to maintaining a GPA above 3.0. Additionally, understanding my mother's financial challenges and my father's whereabouts being unknown, I knew there was a sense of urgency to explore all opportunities leading to scholarships or financial support to allow me to pursue my post-secondary education. Throughout high school, I've remained active. I participated on the volleyball team for four years, in JROTC for three years, and in community organizations, including TWIST Girls, YPAC, Parris Foundation, and the CCC. Receiving this scholarship would be beneficial not only for me but also for my family and the community. I've always had the desire and goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. My mother's diagnosis and future responsibilities only confirmed my career goal. I've researched and interviewed individuals in the medical field, and am confident this is the career path that I want to pursue. Becoming a registered nurse won't be an easy journey, and it is a significant feat! I often imagine myself assisting patients who are dealing with various health conditions. Giving them peace or a smile would make my journey well worth it.

I always wanted to help people and make a huge impact on them, but I wasn’t sure how to do it. I've researched and interviewed individuals in the medical field, and I am confident this is the career path that I want to pursue. I understand that becoming a registered nurse won’t be an easy journey, & is a very responsible position! I imagine myself taking stress and weight off a person suffering, seeing a patient satisfied, at peace, or happy. I was met with adversity, but I have persevered and overcome challenges that may have caused others to experience depression, defeat, or derailing of their goals. I will continue to persevere and attain my goals!

Many are driven or motivated by mentors, teachers, family members, or anything that may appear encouraging. I am motivated by the future responsibility of being the guardian for my younger brother and current caretaker for my mother. I am the oldest of two and reared by a single mother who has been plagued by Multiple Sclerosis. My mother began to struggle with weakness and stumble when walking when I was about two years old. Over the years her health steadily declined, with no true diagnosis. I say true, because she was initially misdiagnosed with a mental illness. Although unfortunate, but turned out beneficial, an open case with Children’s Protective Services and us being removed from our mother’s care led my mother to seek answers resulting in the proper diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. MS has caused lesions to attack my mother's brain and spine, which unfortunately affects the signals that your brain sends to your body. She is currently immobile, unable to write, and is losing her vision. Even though she is currently immobile and continues to struggle with accepting that this is her reality, she still sets expectations and reiterates the importance of academic excellence. She has done a great job of rearing me into the person I am now. The two things she showed me that I will carry for the remainder of my life are to never give up and to work hard. She never allowed our family to struggle and allowed my dreams to go as high as I wanted them. My commitment to my academic career is also driven by my future goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. I’ve diligently worked my entire life to maintain my good grades. I knew that seeing all A’s on my report card would make my mother smile. I have remained focused and dedicated to maintaining a GPA above 3.0 and taking AP and Dual Credit courses. Additionally, understanding my mother's financial challenges and my father's whereabouts being unknown, I was aware of the mandatory necessity to explore all opportunities that could potentially lead to scholarships or any financial support that would allow me to pursue my post- secondary education. Throughout high school I've played on the volleyball team for four years, JROTC for 3 years, and participated in community organizations that include TWIST Girls, YPAC, Parris Foundation, and the CCC. Receiving this scholarship would not only be beneficial for me, but also my family and the community. I’ve always had the desire and goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. I enjoy helping and listening to others. My mother's diagnosis and future responsibilities only provided confirmation of my career goal.
