Scouting has been a large part of my life and helped shape me into the person I am. I have been a member almost all my life, starting in 1st grade as a cub scout and eventually joining my current troop where I now earned my Eagle Scout Rank. As a scout, I served as Senior Patrol Leader (SPL), the highest leadership position within the troop. While serving as SPL, I was in charge of managing the Patrol Leader Council, which consists of other scouts in the troop with leadership positions. I utilized my communication and organizational skills to ensure that the scouts I managed had all the necessary resources to carry out their roles. I also ensured our various troop meeting activities and events ran smoothly by giving support to the scouts in charge of those activities. I realized that being a leader meant guiding others to success rather than simply delegating work. Therefore, I helped teach the scouts how to plan a troop lesson and corresponding activities, guiding them through the process instead of just leaving them on their own to plan out events and activities. My experience as SPL has helped build my leadership skills and grow me into the person I am today. Next, I also obtained my Eagle Scout rank during my time in scouting. My Eagle Scout project included creating and installing six trail signs for my local community. I learned how to fully plan out a project from start to finish and how to create an in-depth project proposal. Additionally, I learned how to communicate with others. I did this by working with my local Broadlands Community and a local makerspace to create the signs for my project. Finally, I learned how to organize individuals and volunteers for the project. On the day of project execution, I had to ensure everyone knew their specific job and were organized in their stations. During my Eagle Scout Project, I acquired valuable project management skills and experienced the extensive planning required for successful volunteer events. Next, I am determined to become a network engineer after I graduate from college. My interest in this career field stemmed from a CISCO Networking class I took in high school. Through this class, I gained hands-on experience working with networking equipment. After completing the class, I passed the CCNA and Network+ certifications. Obtaining these certifications was a great accomplishment and will be valuable for my future career. Network Engineering is a perfect fit for me, and I am excited to continue to learn more in this field. Furthermore, I have been able to share the networking knowledge I gained in my CISCO class. I did this through a computer networking workshop I ran during my school's hackathon, aimed at middle and high school students from across the school district. Through my workshop, I was able to teach 25 kids and lead them through creating their very own network. I have also engaged in independent learning within Computer Science by creating my own app. During the summer of my sophomore year, I taught myself how to develop IOS apps. Using my knowledge, I created an app called Scale Master that combines my coding skills with my band knowledge to help band students learn instrument scales for all-district band auditions. I discovered that two fields I thought to be completely different worked perfectly together. I shared the app with my other band classmates, and they found it extremely helpful in preparing for their all-district auditions. It was very fulfilling to see my friends actually find my app useful and help them improve with playing their scales. Through this experience, I saw how my independent learning with app development could make an impact on the lives of others. I have a significant interest in the field of Computer Science. One specific area I am interested in is Network Engineering. My interest in this career field stemmed from a CISCO Networking class I took at my high school. In this class, I learned how networks work and are organized. I also learned how to work with the actual hardware, having hands-on experience setting up the switches and routers and connecting them all together. I was intrigued by linking all the networking equipment with ethernet cables and ensuring the devices could communicate. I found it fascinating to work with actual hardware and develop creative solutions to any issues I encountered. After exploring and learning about computer networking, I took the CCNA and Network+ certifications. These certifications will be extremely valuable for my future career and were a fulfilling accomplishment after completing my CISCO class.
