Bio

Hi, my name is Caroline Reyes, and I am a first-generation Dominican-American student raised in a single-parent household. Growing up, I learned early what it means to work hard while still facing financial barriers. My mom has supported me on her own, and I have seen how even strong effort does not always match financial stability. I will be attending Drexel University, where tuition is around $80,000 per year. While I am grateful for financial aid, there is still a significant gap my family cannot cover, so I am actively seeking scholarships to help ease the burden on my mother. Outside of academics, I am involved in DECA, Key Club, and Red Cross, where I have participated in hurricane relief efforts, park cleanups, and creating cards for children with cancer. I also volunteer at Fox Chase Farm through DECA, helping with environmental work and community events like Bat Day. In addition, I teach at my church twice a month, working with toddlers ages 1–3. This has taught me patience, responsibility, and the importance of early guidance and care. I plan to study Management Information Systems in the Honors College at Drexel and pursue an accelerated MBA program. I am interested in how systems work and how they can be improved to make access to opportunity more fair and efficient. My goal is to use my education to create clearer pathways for people who are often left to navigate everything on their own. LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/caroline-reyes-47a40432b/

Growing up as a first-generation college student has shaped the way I see responsibility, opportunity, and service. I learned early that success is not just about personal achievement, but about what you do with what you are given-- and how you use it to lift others. My faith as a Christian has grounded me through every step of that journey. It reminds me that love is not just something you feel, but something you practice through action, consistency, and service to others. One of the most meaningful parts of my life is my involvement in my church, where I help each children ages 1-3 at least twice a month. In those early learning spaces, we don't just do activities--we build a foundation of care, patience, and faith. We sing, play, and introduce simple lessons about God's love in ways that even the youngest children can begin to understand. While it may seem small, I've learned that these moments matter deeply. They are often a child's first experience with a community that values them, and I take pride in helping create an environment that feels safe, joyful, and full of love. Outside of my church, service is also a major part of my school life. As secretary of both DECA and Red Cross, I've helped lead environmental service projects that connect our school community to global and local needs. Earlier this year, when a hurricane impacted Jamaica, our DECA chapter organized a clothing drive and collected over 500 clothing items for families affected. We also donated more than 1,000 toothbrushes to support basic hygiene at our District 10 Competition, as well as donate yearly for Fox Chase Bat Farm. In addition, through Key Club, I've participate din cleaning local parks and helping remove trash to support. healthier environment in our community, resulting in more than 8+ hours, as a certified Kiwani. These experiences have shown me that service can start in your own neighbor but still reach people far beyond it. I also volunteer with Cancer Kids First, where I help create digital cards for young patients. While it may seem simple, it is a way to bring encouragement, joy, and comfort to children going through difficult medical treatments. Designing those messages has taught me that kindness does not always have to be large or complex to be meaningful-- it just has to be intentional. Each opportunity has shaped how I understand leadership, not as authority-- but as a responsibility to others. Additionally, my faith ties everything together. It motivates me to show up consistently, even when it is not convenient, and to treat every person with kindness and respect Rev. Ethel K. Grinkley's legacy of building a Christian community rooted in love and fellowship resonates deeply with me because it reflects the kind of life I want to live. Not one defined only by achievement, but by service and love In action. Ultimately, beyond high school, I want my life to reflect the same message Rev. Grinkley lived by: that love is something you build through action. Through my faith, my service, and my commitment to others, I intend to keep carrying that forward.
