Bio

One of my goals in life are to become a middle school science teacher. I would also like to be certified in English/Language Arts and Mathematics so that I have more qualifications to give my students the best education they can get. I have been involved with sports, specifically cross country and track and field, since I was in middle school. Another goal of mine is to become a coach for a middle school or high school cross country and/or track and field program. I feel with the level that I have competed I would be able to create an exceptional environment for the students involved.

Susann Reitan's Future Biology Teacher Scholarship
When I was in middle school and high school my science teachers were always my favorite. They were kind, charismatic, and overall phenomenal teachers. One specifically, Mrs. Miller, is who I aspire to be like. She engaged our class every time we were in the room and I have never learned better from any teacher. As I said, this is the type of teacher I aspire to be. I was personally inspired by my teacher's love of her job. I hope that one day in the near future I can project that type of love for my job to my students. Science has always been my favorite and best subject in school. In my last year of high school, I took two science classes, AP Biology and Anatomy and Physiology. These are the classes that made me realize that I wanted to be a teacher. I want to inspire students to go on after high school and pursue a career in biology, the medical field, or any other science or STEM-related field. I think it's important for students, especially female or female-identifying students to know that they are being represented. Another reason I would like to be a teacher is because of my grandma. She was an English teacher, which is not the same as a science teacher, but I think that my following in her footsteps as an educator would make her very proud and that is something that I would love to accomplish. I think that educators have one of the most important jobs for future generations. I would like to be a Science teacher in a middle school which I believe is a very important age. Most students who are middle school age are at a very malleable age and are forming their own opinions and ideas. When a teacher reaches them in class they are able to inspire these students. I think that it is important to educate youth on science because we are surrounded by it. Science is in every part of our lives, it is how we were created and why we survive. I think young students should understand the concepts of life and how things work in nature. I hope to be a driving force in the future for middle school students. To sum this all up, I want to be the sort of teacher that inspires students to want to learn and I want to be the kind of teacher that students look up to and want to be like. I think that it is important that students have the ability to learn from people who care about them and the things they should be learning.
