What would I be without Jesus? This question has been in the back of my mind for some time now, and the more I think, the more I realize the answer is nothing. Without Jesus, I would be lost- searching for guidance, worth, and purpose in places that could never fulfill my cup. Over the years, my relationship with him has not only affected my faith, but also who I am to the core. He is my only constant stability in a world that is full of uncertainty, and his presence has guided me through seasons of doubt, growth, and self-discovery.
In my recent stage of life, I have been asking myself, "What exactly is faith?" To be completely honest, I am not entirely sure yet, and I believe it is a struggling topic for most Christians. Faith, to me, has often been portrayed as an act of believing without seeing. We are called to put our full absolute faith in something even when theres is no proof right in front of you. It is the quiet confidence that God is working in and among you, even in moments that feel so far away from him. Faith does not depend on evidence or guarantees; instead, it is rooted in spiritual conviction and surrender. True faith requires brave courage- courage to walk forward without knowing the next step or what lies in front of you, to rely on God's promises rather than worldly reassurance. It is this trust that faith becomes powerful, shaping how I act, think, and persevere through hardships.
The faith I have acquired has taught me that value does not come from grades, accomplishments, or opinions. Instead, it is established in His unconditional love. In moments when I have felt overwhelmed, worthless, and insecure, I leaned into prayer and scripture, finding peace in knowing that God's plan is greater than anything I could design on my own. Faith has given me strength when I felt weak and courage when I was afraid.
As I continue my educational journey, I plan to carry my faith with me in both actions and within my mindset. In an upcoming season of change and new beginnings, I find peace in knowing that one thing remains completely stable: Jesus. I will approach my studies with integrity, humility, and diligence, recognizing that every opportunity to learn is a gift from God. When challenges occur, whether academic pressure or self-doubt, I will rely on Jesus for guidance and reassurance. I believe that prayer is not just something to turn to in difficult times, but a daily conversation that keeps me grounded.
Beyond my educational journey, I want my faith to influence how I treat others. Jesus is the ultimate example of compassion, patience, and kindness, and I strive to reflect His love in the way I support my classmates, professors, and community.
Ultimately, my relationship with Jesus gives meaning to my goals and direction. Education is not just about personal success for me; it is about using the gifts God has given to me to serve those around me. With Jesus at the center of my life, I walk with confidence, knowing that I am never alone and that He is guiding every step I take.
Marybelle Huggins Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Growing up, nursing has never felt like just a career choice for me—it has always felt like a calling. I come from a family where caring for others is not only encouraged, but lived out every day. I have three sisters who are all more than fourteen years older than me, and each of them chose the path of nursing. Watching them grow into compassionate women who dedicate their lives to helping others has deeply influenced who I am and who I want to become.
Because of the age gap, I often felt like I was being raised by role models as much as sisters. They would always share stories about comforting families, advocating for patients, and being present during some of the most difficult moments in people’s lives. Those stories stayed with me. They taught me that nursing is not just about medicine—it is about empathy, service, and being a steady presence when someone needs it most.
Their example inspired my own pursuit of nursing. I have always had a natural desire to help others, and I find fulfillment in supporting people, listening to their concerns, and making a difference in small but meaningful ways. Nursing allows me to turn that part of my heart into a lifelong profession.
My family has shaped my values of hard work, compassion, and perseverance. Being the youngest taught me to learn from those around me and to dream big. I am a aunt to 8 wonderful nieces and nephews which also has shaped who I am today and my passion for nursing. I plan to continue my education with the goal of becoming a nurse who not only provides quality medical care, but also brings comfort, understanding, and hope to every patient I encounter. My sisters showed me what is possible, and now it is my turn to carry that legacy forward.
Nursing is my dream because it combines everything I value—service, learning, and making a difference. As I graduate May 2026, I plan to continue my education at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I have had the opportunity to shadow and this has also gave me an inspiration to continue my education in nursing. Through my family’s influence and my own passion, I am committed to pursuing this path and dedicating my life to helping others, just as they have inspired me to do. Having support from my family and friends is what made me who I am today.
