My beagles name was Lucy. Unfortunately I lost her earlier this year in March. My family and I adopted and rescued her in 2016 and she had been my best fiend since I was eight years old. Lucy taught me honestly many things. Firstly, I learned to have much responsibility at a young age, seeing as she was used a breeding dog in the shelter, she had very bad urinary problems. I learned to care for her in many ways. I went from simply walking her every 2 hours to cleaning her urinary area every time to help with pain, and then to giving her, her meds everyday to help her with pain. She was my best friend, I talked to her so much. Lucy changed my life in a way of looking at the world and seeing that there are second chances. Back in 2022 I lost my golden doodle from lung cancer, and when I got home that night after saying goodbye I was just number and what felt like not even there in reality. It was like Lucy noticed something was wrong, and she gave me so much comfort I deeply needed. I bought Lucy a stroller because she absolutely hated walking, therefore when we went on walks she napped or looked around from her stroller. Lucy taught me acceptance. Also in that year Lucy suffered a seizure. It pained me so much to see her crying, my father and I rushed her to the hospital because of how reaping her screams were. Soon after blood work was back, they told us she would be okay and just needed to be closely monitored. Then last summer appeared a mass on her stomach. I noticed it while giving her belly rubs, and I informed my parents about it and we made an appointment for her to get it checked out. The doctor told us that it was a tumor that is cancerous and needed to be removed or else it would spread. So we did that. Lucy was on bed rest for about a month due to how big the mass was on her and not being able to break her stitches. For a couple of months, Lucy was good, she was happy and running. Winter came along and the mass grew back. This time it was tripled in size. My father took her to the doctor again beginning of January . I remember this day because it broke me. Lucy was diagnosed with breast and lung cancer, along with that she was anemic. My heart broke into a million pieces not knowing how much time I would have left with her. The month of February was one of the hardest. I spent every precious day with her. When my parents left to move my sister into her apartment in I stayed home alone because I was so scared of her final day to arrive. I took Lucy to Starbucks whenever I got the chance, everyday I got home from school I took her outside to sunbathe, I took much advantage of my time with her. It wasn't until the middle of February that I noticed her change in behavior. She couldn't go up the stairs anymore and she didn't want to eat anymore. Once I noticed that it was just not fair to keep her here in pain and to let her rest I told my parents. Her death taught me to always be grateful, and I carry her everywhere I go. She is my reasoning for wanted to only be helpful and going into medicine.
