Bio

Hello, my name is Carlie Gabler and I live in Northwest Indiana. My family and friends would describe me as a happy individual that is dedicated to anything I start. I love mathematics and anything related to numbers. I'm currently attending Purdue Northwest University and enrolled in the accounting/finance program. My goal is to not only receive my bachelor's degree, but also my masters. I plan to open my own firm that specializes in corporate financial auditing. I'm currently a member of the National Honors Society, as well as a scholar athlete winner and I belong to the Academic Letter Club. I was also awarded the "2024 Business student of the year". In my free time I like to volunteer my time tutoring my peers in math, read, write poems, draw, practice tumbling and compete with the inaugural stunt team at Purdue Northwest University. We are the first university in the state of Indiana to bring on this emerging women's NCAA sport! I also work part time as a tumbling coach at the gymnastics gym and currently have three classes where I teach preschool and elementary aged children how to tumble. I also enjoy creating art. In 2023 my artwork was one of only 30 chosen pieces to represent Lake Central High School at the 48th Annual Tri-County High School Art Exhibit. Students are hand selected by art teachers to participate in this juried exhibition of High School students. One of my pieces was even purchased at this show! I appreciate your consideration!

My name is Carlie and I'm a freshman at Purdue Northwest University, majoring in accounting, with a minor in finance. I picked Purdue Northwest not only because it's a great university, but because they are the first college in Indiana to bring on the emerging women's NCAA sport called "stunt". Stunt takes aspects from cheerleading and gymnastics and turned it into a four-quarter game. I was approached by the Purdue Northwest coach after competing my senior year at cheerleading nationals. Our team had previously won the Indiana state competition as well as nationals the prior two years and therefore the stunt coach was very interested in recruiting girls from my high school team to be on the inaugural stunt team that fall. I had already committed to attending the university and it seemed to be a fantastic opportunity to participate on the first ever Indiana stunt team. My father also attended Purdue Northwest University so choosing the school to attend for myself was an easy decision. Even though it's a lot smaller from the main campus and it's big ten sister school, Purdue Northwest also gives excellent educational programs and also excels in sports. The college of business program offers many opportunities including clubs and connecting with nearby businesses for internships. The support the college has for its students is top notch! I also plan to further my education to receive my master's degree and take the CPA exam. My goal is to open my own firm for corporate auditing in the financial industry. My mother has been in the financial industry for over 25 years and that is also quite motivating! I thoroughly enjoy math and tutored my peers in algebra while in high school. I volunteered my time several days a week to help others with their homework, studying for tests and understanding concepts overall. I plan to continue my tutoring efforts as there are many students who need the extra help and cannot afford a private tutor. It genuinely makes me happy to know that I can help someone who truly needs it! I am excited for my first year in college and what it has in store for me. I have practice five days a week, along with my classes and I also work part time. It's a busy and full schedule, but I look forward what every day has to bring. I appreciate your consideration to help fund my journey!

    Strong Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship
I’m a leader because I have determination to make my team a success! You must lead by example. I show my peers that I have the strength to overcome any obstacles that might cross my path. You must persevere and move forward. To be a great leader you have to be self aware of what’s happening around you and be open minded to new ideas and approaches. Communication is key! I listen to my teammates concerns and turn them into learning experiences that will help guide them in the future. I focus on developing others and have patience during the process. It not only shows one’s strength, but improves the overall dynamic of a team. It also demonstrates that one is comfortable enough to delegate tasks to others. I build trust and have start deep connections. A leader will celebrate wins and also losses. I take responsibility for my failures, yet I exude the confidence I need to continue forward. I have a reputation of succeeding no matter how difficult the task, but I also have resilience when needed. I show how weaknesses can be turned into strengths. Motivating others is also very important! An exceptional leader must be able to lift the spirits of others and keep them focused on the task at hand while keeping them excited. I always try different avenues of creativity and welcome new ideas as well. You will clearly be able to see one’s desire and passion shine through as a leader and it’s usually contagious! It makes my day when I see my entire team motivated to work on the skills they need to better themselves and their team! That motivation typically is carried out into their daily lives as well and makes them overall better individuals. Being a good leader also means taking the time for continued self development. Leadership is a learning process that continues over time. Education is forever ongoing with trial and error. Every situation, and every circumstance is different. Being a leader means one is constantly adapting to the world around them. As I start college, I hope to continue to be a person that people can look up to for guidance and support. I believe once a leader, always a leader! It’s not always easy, but it is rewarding. The best leadership quality is being self aware that you are in fact a good leader, because if you can believe it, you can achieve it!
    Team USA Fan Scholarship
Who can argue that Team USA is not the best? I love watching the Olympics, especially my favorite athlete Simone Biles! Simone is the epitome of the word "athlete"! Not only is she all around just a fantastic athlete, but her drive and determination are empowering to all, especially little girls who one day strive to be just like her. She's a fantastic role model for today's youth! As a former competitive cheerleader and tumbler, I have always watched Simone Biles compete on television. The number of hours she trains to become her best is inspiring and it pushes other athletes to work just as hard. Many times, I have thought to myself, "What would Simone Biles do? Would she give up or push through it?" She inspired me to be the best athlete I can be. Besides being a fantastic athlete, I think Simone is genuinely a good person. You can see how she supports her competitors and congratulates them after they perform. It's amazing to see that type of attitude in an athlete. It shows good sportsmanship which teaches today's youth that it's not all about winning and it's ok to not come in first all the time. She reminds the world that she is out there on the mat having fun. We put so much pressure on today's youthful athletes that we forget to remind them that they should also have fun, because if you're not enjoying the moment, you will not succeed.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
I will be attending college in the fall to study accounting. My goal is to receive my bachelor's degree in accounting, with a minor in finance and continue on to earn my master's in accountancy. I always knew I wanted to pursue a career that included math. I have enjoyed all of my math classes, and it comes fairly easy to me. When I took an accounting class my junior year in high school, I knew that is what I should do as my given career! Interestingly enough, the majority of accountants are male, but that doesn't change my mind any. I was only one of two females in my high school accounting class and the only student from that class majoring in accounting in college. My teacher nominated me for the "2024 business student of the year" award and I won! It helped me solidify that this was the best career choice for me to pursue. I have always been passionate about helping others and using my skills to do so. Two years ago, my friend asked me for help with her algebra homework. She was struggling in the class and was failing. After I helped her, she began to better understand the concepts, and I continued to work with her. She told some of her friends how I helped her, and they asked for my help as well. I began to volunteer my time during study hall to help tutor my peers with their math classes. My tutoring became so popular that I started to help students after school as well. It made me so happy to hear my peers say they did well on a test or that they received a good grade on their homework. Many young adults cannot afford a tutor, so volunteering my time and knowledge is not only rewarding for me, but important to my community. I plan to continue my efforts to help as many students as I can as I head to college!

I will be attending college this fall to pursue a degree in accounting because mathematics and statistics are my passion. I truly love anything math and solving equations is actually fun to me. I have always enjoyed my math classes and knew early on that I wanted to have a career that either included math or science as I enjoy both, but math has always been my favorite subject. In my sophomore year of high school, I had a friend ask me if I could help her understand her algebra homework. She was very lost in the basic understanding and as a result she was failing her tests. Up to that point she was not doing well at all in her class and her teacher was confusing her more. Of course, I offered to help her as much as I could. Once I worked with her it made sense and she was able to understand the concepts. She was so grateful because she started to do well on her homework assignments and was even doing well on her tests. She started to tell others and before I knew it, I started to tutor other peers during my study hall. Eventually, I started to tutor after school because there was such a demand for help. It was easier for a student to ask me for help than to ask a teacher. I feel that is because I treat them as my equal with no judgement. I never asked for compensation as I was helping students succeed and that made me happy. Most families can't afford to pay a tutor and it was my way of giving back to the community. I plan to continue my tutoring efforts while attending college. I have even thought about starting a tutoring club so more students can receive the help they need! My future plans include working as an intern at a local firm once I'm in my sophomore or junior year of college. I am currently enrolled in a five-year plan that will allow me to receive both my bachelor's and master's in accountancy. I will then sit for the CPA exam and from there I would like to open my own accounting firm where I would focus on corporate auditing; as well as, preparing individual taxes. I also plan to continue my community work and volunteer my tax preparation skills to others that cannot afford to pay someone to have their taxes done.

I will be attending college in the fall to study accounting. My goal is to receive my bachelor's degree in accounting, with a minor in finance and continue on to receive my master's in accountancy, which will also include sitting for the CPA exam. I always knew I wanted to pursue a career that included math. I have always enjoyed my math classes and it comes easy to me. For a long time, I thought I would study to become a research meteorologist. I have always been fascinated by the weather and how it could change in a second. However, when I took an accounting class, I knew that is what I should do as my given career! Interestingly enough, the majority of accountants are male, but that doesn't change my mind any. I was only one of two females in my high school accounting class and the only student from that class majoring in accounting in college. My teacher nominated me for the "2024 business student of the year" award and I won for never receiving less than 100% in the class. Two years ago, my friend asked me for help with her algebra homework. She was struggling in the class and was failing. After I helped her, she began to understand, and I continued to work with her. She told some of her friends who also asked for my help. I began to volunteer my time during study hall to help tutor my peer with their math classes. My tutoring became so popular that I also started to help students after school. Tutors are very expensive in my area so when students learned I was helping for free I had many reaching out for help. I loved to see their faces when they finally understood the concepts. It was as if a lightbulb went off and it was extremely satisfying, especially when they would ace a test! I hold them accountable and follow up on the tests they take to make sure they truly understand what I taught them. I plan to continue my services while I attend college and maybe start a tutoring club. Some people have asked me why I'm not becoming a math teacher. As much as I like to tutor individuals, I don't think teaching a class is meant for me. I cannot wait to continue my studies of accounting and finance and apply my skills in my career! It's my passion and I'm very excited about it! My future goals after college graduation include starting my own accounting firm that will specialize in corporate auditing and personal taxation. Volunteering will always be a priority and will continue as much as time allows. I want to give back to the community by helping those in financial need with free tax preparation once my firm is open. I will give my employees paid time off to volunteer their time as they choose, and I will also continue to help tutor individuals in math who can't afford to pay for a tutor. I thank you for your consideration as this scholarship would greatly help in pursuit of my goals and dreams.

This scholarship would help me attend college to study accounting. I plan to not only receive my bachelor's degree, but also my master's in accountancy, with a minor in finance and entrepreneurship. My goal is to open my own accounting firm soon after I graduate college that will focus on corporate auditing and personal taxes. I have not always wanted to be an accountant. For years I had my mind set to become a research meteorologist. I still enjoy watching the weather and predicting it's outcome, but ever since I took an accounting class at school, I knew that was the career path that was really meant for me! Mathematics has always been my strong suite and I thoroughly enjoy it. I always knew I would pursue a career that used math. I currently tutor my fellow peers in math as well. It started a few years ago when a friend of mine asked me for help with her algebra homework. She then told a few of her friends that after she worked with me, she completely understood the assignment. I began having many of my fellow peers asking for help. I began to volunteer my time during my study hall to help as many students as I could. It became so popular that I then started to tutor after school as well. Tutors charge a lot of money in my area, so when the word got out that I was tutoring for free I even had teachers reaching out to me to ask if I could tutor some of their students. I love to see the reactions they give when they finally understand the problem at hand or when they receive their test back with a good grade. It makes it all worthwhile! I plan to continue to offer my tutoring services as much as my time allows while I attend college. I might even start a math tutoring club! Receiving this scholarship would bring me one step closer to my career goal because it would alleviate some of the financial burden of going to college. When I open my accounting firm, I plan to pay it forward and continue to volunteer my time to help others. I want my business to be known for helping the community; and therefore, we will offer free tax services to those in need. I will also offer my employees paid time off to volunteer.

My name is Carlie and I'm graduating high school in a few weeks. One key fact about me is that I love math! When I tell people that they usually give me a weird look, because most people do not like math. In fact, most despise it! When I was a freshman a good friend of mine was in my algebra class. Unfortunately, she was not as good at math as I am. After several months in class and failing several tests, she asked if I could help her understand the homework assignment we currently had. Of course I'm going to help my friend! We met after school, and I explained to her step by step how to figure out and understand the equations. It was as if a lightbulb went off inside her head. I continued to help her when needed and even offered to help her study for tests. She said that the way I explained it made so much more sense than how the teacher explained it. After that I started to have more of my friends ask me for help with their math classes and eventually even other classmates of mine started to ask me for help. I began to tutor my peers during study hall when I had time, but I had so many individuals reach out for help that I started to volunteer my time afterschool as well. Ever since then I have tutored my fellow peers at least several hours each week. I enjoy helping others who are struggling, and I don't expect anything in return. I have been asked many times if I plan to be a math teacher. Even though I love tutoring and teaching, I have decided to major in accounting with a minor in finance and will attend Purdue Northwest University this fall. I just received the "2024 Business student of the year" award for my graduating class. I will continue volunteering my time to help others understand math at both the high school and college level. It's important for me to serve my community because not everyone can afford a private tutor. This is my way of doing what I can to support others in need. I hope I can inspire others to help tutor their peers in subjects they excel in. The amount of gratitude I have received is beyond anything I can describe and it's truly an honor to help each individual.

Cheerleading is my passion! I became a cheerleader when I tried out with my friend for my middle school team. I had zero experience cheering at the time and almost didn't tryout because I didn't think I would make it and had little confidence. Not only did I make the team, but soon after the coach asked me to join her other team that she coached which was an all-star team. In the cheer world they call the two teams "school cheer" and "competitive cheer". Most athletes like doing one or the other, but I loved both! Going into high school I had to make a decision to either tryout for the high school team or continue cheering all-star. The school I would be attending was very well known for sports in our state and the cheerleading team had won consistently at competitions. The school team was very demanding so you were not allowed to do all-star cheer as well. I decided to tryout for the school team. Towards the end of my 8th grad year I broke my knuckle tumbling and had to have surgery. I was not cleared to tumble or do any cheering activity until right before tryouts. I did what I could and I made the junior varsity team. We practiced several times a week and cheered at football and basketball games. I also did extra tumbling classes because I was determined to make varsity my sophomore year. At the end of my freshman year one of the varsity girls got hurt so they moved me up to varsity to finish out the season. Tryouts were soon after and I made the varsity team! With practices, games and competitions, I was dedicated to cheerleading six days a week! The determination I had for success in cheer helped me to succeed in my classes as well and I became a scholar athlete. During my four years cheering in high school we won several titles. No other team in Indiana had been back to back national champions! We had some set backs and were humbled by it this past year. It's moments like that which make you stronger and teach you to persevere. Cheer has taught me to overcome obstacles, boost my confidence, incredible strength and determination; as well as, learning how to lead others and team work. Cheer also taught me how to balance time between cheerleading, school work and friends. There had been times that were extremely stressful and tough, but overall the experience has been very rewarding and I wouldn't had changed it for anything. I will be moving on to be part of the inaugural stunt team at Purdue Northwest University. I'm very excited for my future and can't wait to compete with my new team! Cheerleading gave me the confidence to do whatever I set my mind to and I'm forever grateful for that. To anyone who asks, is cheer an actual sport? Yes, it most definitely is!

My name is Carlie Gabler and I'm currently a high school senior who will be pursuing a bachelors degree and ultimately a masters degree in accounting and finance. My career goal would to one day run my own accounting firm. Two years ago I was struggling mentally. My best friend stopped speaking to me completely and would not give me a reason why. In "teen terms" what she was doing was ghosting me. This is when someone completely stops all communication with you with no explanation. Not only was she doing this to me, but she convinced other friends of mine to do this as well. It was extremely hard because several of my friends; including her, were also on my cheerleading team and I would see them every day. I tried so hard to communicate with them and nothing I did worked. t became a very lonely time in my life and I almost quit my sport because of it, but I'm so glad I didn't as it was also my passion! Instead, I added extra practice time on my own and continued to excel in my tumbling. Due to that I was named to the Indiana All State team. I also submerged myself into my studies and that is when I started tutoring my peers in my spare time. I am truly passionate about anything related to math! I love the challenge that math brings to figure out the problems at hand. When I decided to start to tutor my peers in Algebra it made me extremely happy to help others understand something that was so difficult for them, but easy for me. It started with just a friend in my class asking me to explain one problem to her. It then became where I was being asked to help more and more students in our class and eventually I started to tutor students outside of school hours. I was told it was easier for them to ask a fellow student for help than to ask a teacher or family member. I never asked for compensation. Volunteering my time to help others was satisfaction enough. I average about five hours a week helping others. After some time I began to speak to my old friend again and some of the others who had excluded me. We are a few years older, more mature and our friendship is different than it once was. I'm happy that I was able to move past this my senior year, but it did once bring a lot of emotional sadness. High school can be a tough time for many. I encourage anyone having an emotionally hard time to reach out to a friend, family member, coach, teacher or anyone in their life for help. In my case, I used my situation to help others and in return it helped me as well.

As my senior year comes to a close, the title of the next chapter of life would be, "Becoming the best version of myself". I have picked this title for many reasons, but mainly because I feel that I have always been somewhat of a follower my entire life. Not in the sense that if someone said "jump off a bridge" I would do it, but I think for the greater portion of my life growing up I just went with the flow and didn't have much of an opinion on things. Whatever someone wanted to to do I would agree and just go with it. As I reach high school graduation, I'm becoming more of an individual. I'm voicing my opinions and making my own decisions based on what is best for me. For the past two years my best friend and I have planned to go to the same university. We were gong to room together and even try to take some of the same classes together. I have recently decided that school was not the best option for me and we will most likely not go to the same college. At first that was a scary decision and then I realized it's fine to make a decision on what's best for me and my life. My friend and I will visit each other and communicate when time allows. It will not be the end of our friendship, but life taking us in different directions. Making that decision has also led me to also change my major. I have always been fascinated with the weather and climate change; however, I thoroughly enjoy mathematics. Over the past two years I have taken accounting classes and have decided to change my major to accounting. I plan to take my education past four years of college and aim for a masters degree; as well as, take the CPA exam. My plan is to become a corporate auditor for financial institutions. A completely different career than what was my original plan; however, I am very happy with that decision. Many have tried to steer me away from my new goal, but I am moving forward. In the last few months I have made more decisions for myself than I have ever before and it feels great. I'm a young lady that is about to take on the world and I look forward to what life has to offer. I will always welcome others opinions and thoughts, but the choices I make will ultimately be mine.

My name is Carlie Gabler and I'm currently a high school senior. I plan to major in accounting because of my love of numbers. Math has always been my favorite subject as it comes easy to me. I always knew I wanted a career where I could use math daily. Finding the solution to an equation is satisfying; however, I know many individuals who struggle to understand math. For some, it can be their worst subject in high school. I currently tutor many of my peers in various mathematical subjects; however, mostly in Algebra. I volunteer my time 2-4 days a week to anyone who needs help with math homework, studying for a test or just to get some better understanding of a topic for their class. I started to tutor my sophomore year as a realized many of my friends were asking me for help in class. They felt more comfortable coming to me instead of asking the teacher. It is also very expensive to hire a tutor, so most of the students I knew relied solely on a teachers help; however, help is extremely limited due to the size of our school. As time went on I started to receive more requests for help than I could handle, so I organized a math tutor club that included many members from the national honors society at my school. These individuals also have a love for math and wanted to give back to their community. Together we help as many students as possible during and after school. We not only go over homework, but we also hold individuals accountable. I want to make sure that they are applying the new skills I am teaching them. If they are not, then I need to find out the reason why. I want them to succeed not only in their current math class, but in future classes as well. I plan to have our club continue after I graduate and start another tutor club when I reach the college I will attend next fall. What I have learned over the years is that for most individuals math does not come easy, but with a little extra help and guidance most can learn and understand it better. By giving my time to help others in need it gives me a sense of accomplishment and pride that I can make a difference in another persons life.

Every day is a gift and should be viewed as such. I strive to be the best individual I can be and that includes helping others as much as possible. Part of my daily activities includes tutoring others. Math is my passion. I enjoy learning new concepts and the challenge of solving equations; however, for many, it's a foreign language. Mathematics is the toughest subject for most and without extra help it can be a student's worst nightmare. Many families can not afford a private tutor as they are quite costly. Schools have resources to help struggling students, but those resources are very limited in most cases. I decided early on in my high school career that I would volunteer my time to help those faced with the challenges of learning math. As a freshman in high school, I noticed many of my friends and classmates would ask me to explain the topic at hand. Once doing so, they understood. Teachers are on a schedule and everyone learns at their own pace, so many students fall behind in mathematics class. Sometimes all they need is someone to explain the concept slower or break it down in a way that is better understood. I started to notice that more and more students were asking for my help. So much so, that I asked my study hall teacher if I could use that time to tutor my classmates instead of taking that time for myself. As the word got out about my services it became too much to just help during school hours. That is when I decide to devote several days after school volunteering my tutoring services as well. Typically I tutor anywhere from 5-15 hours a week and sometimes more during finals. To me, it's a process. Not only do I help each student with what they need at the time, but I follow up with them as well. If they needed help to prepare for a test, I want to know the outcome of that test. If they did not do well then I suggest we work more on that particular unit. Typically I prepare them enough so they have the best outcome possible, but if they come to me too late it doesn't always result in a positive outcome. That's also a mindset of the individual. They have to want to learn and put in the effort as learning is a process and ongoing. I try to instill that mindset into the individuals that come to me. As I go into my senior year of high school Im constantly asked if I plan to be a math teacher. As much as I do like to teach I also have a passion for science and plan to study to be an atmospheric scientist. I will continue to tutor others in college whenever help is needed and time allows. I hope I have encouraged others to volunteer their time to help those in need as well. This is my way of making a positive impact on our world.
    Disney Super Fan Scholarship
My favorite thing about Disney is the memories I make every time I go there! The first time I visited Disney World was when I was five years old. My family and I went to Florida on vacation and went to the park for the day. It was the most magical moment of my life this far! My mother purchased an autograph book for my sister and myself and we met as many characters as we could that day. We took pictures with them and got their autographs. I also went on my rides. My favorite was "It's a small world" because I knew the son and was able to sing along on the ride. I also remember eating the most amazing food that day. Another fond memory was the fireworks at the end of the evening and my father carrying both my sister and me out of the park afterward because we were so exhausted from the most amazing day we had. As I grew old er had visited Disney many times. Each time creating new memories. Another great experience at Disney was when I traveled there with my varsity cheerleading team to compete at Nationals. We stayed at the Disney Allstar Sports hotel which was an amazing experience. We had a team bonding event at Disney World and watched the fireworks together. We competed for several days against hundreds of other teams at Diosney's ESPN Wide World of Sports complex. After three days of hard competition, we became national champions in our division. It was the best moment of my life when the announcer called our school's name the winner. It had been the first time in our school's history that the cheerleading team had won nationals! The following year our school traveled back to Disney to compete in nationals again and became back-to-back nationals winners in our category. No high school from Indiana had ever won back-to-back national titles at cheerleading nationals. I'm hoping for a three-peat in 2024 for my senior year! At some point, I would also like to visit Disney Land in California to experience another Disney park and see what they have to offer. The memories I have made so far at Disney have been some of my best experiences. I look forward to my next visit there and making more memories of a lifetime. For me, it's an experience that everyone should have at least once in their lifetime if not several times.
    Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
As a member of society, I try to embody selflessness daily to make a positive impact on the world. I do this by helping others as much as I can. I believe that the more we help others, the more fulfilling our own lives will be. I belong to several outstanding organizations, such as the National Honors Society and Dollars for Scholars, which both specifically serve my community. One of the ways I enjoy helping others is by volunteering my tutoring services to all who need it. I spend countless hours per week helping my peers understand algebra, geometry and chemistry. Many students struggle in math; but for me, math comes naturally. I enjoy solving the problem at hand, but for others, it's a constant struggle to understand the concepts. Unlike teachers who teach the concept fast and move on, I break it down and explain it on the student's level since everyone learns at a different pace. Once understood, I administer practice sheets for them to do until we can meet again. I also work with students who need help in chemistry as there are a lot of math concepts needed as well. To properly complete a chemistry lab, one must understand the math involved. Much like tutoring for algebra, I make sure my students understand the math concept before moving on to the next step. Another trick I use to help my students in this class is to make sure they understand the vocabulary terms. I cover this in-depth first otherwise they will struggle to understand what they are learning. I offer my services mostly during school hours while students have study hall; however, I do set several hours a week to tutor individuals outside of school. We usually meet at a local cafe or a park. I try to make it a relaxed atmosphere so that there is no pressure. Making learning interesting, fun and relaxing brings positive results. It gives me great pleasure to see my fellow peers understand what I have taught them and apply it to their studies. I make giving back to my community a priority. It can be a struggle to balance my own academics and other activities, along with giving my time to others; however, I enjoy giving the knowledge I have to those in need. I plan to continue to volunteer my services throughout my college career and beyond as much as I can.

    Learner Geometry Scholarship
I plan to major in Atmospheric Science which is a profession that is primarily math based. Those who plan to major in meteorology, oceanography, marine biology and climate science often take about six or more courses on differential and integral calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, basic statistics, and computer programming. Luckily, math is one of my favorite subjects, which helped me decide on my future chosen profession. Mathematics is used in this profession to develop models for weather forecasts and to calculate changes in air pressure, which affect temperature. Throughout my high school career, I have seen many of my peers struggle with math. I am fortunate enough that math comes to me easily. I like to learn new concepts and apply them to what I'm doing in my other subjects, such as science. In chemistry, it is imperative to understand different math concepts or you will struggle in that class. In my spare time, I tutor my peers in different math concepts, not only to help them in their current math classes but to help them in their science classes as well. As many high school students think that learning math will be a wasted concept in their future lives, it couldn't be further from the truth! Math helps you with your finances, budgeting and saving, not only with balancing your bank accounts but understanding mortgage interest and taxes. It contributes to helping one prepare meals as we measure ingredients, tell the time for preparation and calculate how much to make. You also use math while shopping to calculate costs and items that have a percentage off. Not to mention, you do use math in almost every career in some way or another. It also helps overall brain function for decision-making processes. Math is also a universal language. As proven, math is used in our everyday lives. I consider myself lucky as I love to solve math problems and thoroughly enjoy it. I will continue to bring my love of math to help others who struggle with it and in hope that I can make a difference in someone else's life.
    Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
Many different tools can be used to make one's life easier. The one that inspires me the most is the Apple iPhone. Not only can you use it to communicate, but it can also be used as a research tool, a television, a calculator, a camera, a notebook, an alarm clock, a watch, a map and the list goes on. What other tool of modern-day technology is as versatile? My mother tells me stories of when a phone was attached to a wall and you could only move as far as the cord would allow. With a rotary phone; which is what it was called back then, you could only talk to a person on it. There were no other functions. People would joke about a time in the future when there would be a phone invented where you could talk to someone and see them. Fast forward 40 years and that is now possible. The modern-day phone, allows a person to communicate as they please, whether that be via a call, texting (writing) a person or on a screen in live time. The best part is that you can take it with you anywhere as it's small and runs on a battery! The only flaw in my opinion is that it needs to be charged; however, there are now portable chargers that are small enough to take where ever you need to go. The iPhone is the perfect example of how technology has grown in just the last 50 years. Every year new functions are added to make it even better and I look forward to the next upgrade!
    I Can Do Anything Scholarship
The dream version of my future self would just to be happy and healthy!
    North Star Dreamers Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship would help me go to college to pursue my career as n Atmospheric Scientist. I have always been passionate about the weather. I love math and science and want to learn how to predict the weather. Atmospheric Science is the umbrella term for anyone who works in studying the atmosphere of our planet, who also studies the relationship between the atmosphere and other climate systems (oceans, sea ice, vegetation, etc.) I plan to focus more on the research side of meteorology so that I can compile data that would help predict the weather more accurately. Technology is ever-changing and I hope to create a better system that can warn individuals earlier of pending dangerous weather. I also want to focus on ways that we as a society can reverse climate change and bring the Earth back to a healthy state. Atmospheric Scientists work with many other scientists, such as environmental. They help research environmental problems in the soil, water and air, working together as a team for the greater good of the planet and its inhabitants. Such studies would help farmers determine if the upcoming season will be too hot or cold for crops and can help determine the correct timing for preparing the soil, planting, pulling crops, etc. Another aspect is helping determine how weather affects our oceans. As the ocean temperatures rise, the polar ice caps melt, creating the ocean levels to rise. his disrupts weather patterns and can create stronger hurricanes, which in turn creates many other problems such as rain and flooding. The effects can also lead to fewer fish for food, the death of coral reefs and even droughts in some areas. Creating newer and up-to-date technology is key in helping to determine the "why". Why our planet is having intense weather outbreaks that it has never seen before? Our planet needs atmospheric scientists to research why extreme weather changes occur as well as why global warming is slowly changing our planet. The more we can learn and the better tools we have will allow us to compile a plan to move forward for future generations. I truly can not wait to attend college in a year and start my journey. This scholarship would help in so many ways. Not only to help fund my education but to ultimately help planet Earth and our society as that is what I intend to do.
    Connie Konatsotis Scholarship
Hello, I'm Carlie Gabler and I'm currently a Junior at Lake Central High School in Northwest Indiana. I plan to study meteorology to become an Atmospheric Scientist. The weather fascinates me and I want to learn everything there is to know about it including climate change. I plan to focus on the research side of meteorology instead of broadcasting. This will allow me to further explore, collect and observe data. Doing so will allow me to be able to bring facts and educate others to hopefully make our world a more sustainable place to live. I truly believe that education is the key! The more we educate and learn about our planet, the better equipped we are to make informed decisions that can impact not only ourselves but others and future generations. It has been proven that the Earth can not continue the path it is taking. We must act as a society to make the changes needed for a better future. I want to be part of that change. What interests me about STEM is the challenge. It's a puzzle that we must put together to get the outcome. Mathematics is my favorite subject, specifically Algebra. I enjoy finding the answer to the equation. I also enjoy helping others learn math. I help tutor my peers that are struggling and it makes me happy when I see their faces light up when they finally understand it. Science is equally enjoyable to me. Whether it be chemistry, biology or environmental science, it all interests me! I am enrolled in AP Physics for my senior year. Besides that, I believe I have taken most science classes currently offered at my high school and I'm excited to continue my love for science in college! Technology will also play a big part in my future career. Meteorologists use many instruments when predicting and forecasting the weather, including many different computer programs and devices such as satellites, radars, barometers, thermometers and anemometers to name a few. Continuous learning of updated technology sources will also be a must. I look forward to my college education and my bright future ahead. Please consider me for this scholarship as I begin my way toward my chosen career. I am a focused student who sees the end goal and knows what is needed to get there. I plan to not only complete my bachelor's degree, but also my master's.
    Future Is Female Inc. Scholarship
Feminism to me is the inclusion of all people, not just women. As we look back over the years and see the inspiration women have contributed to society, we must include all genders as we are now one. Of course, women have always had to fight for their rights against discrimination, including the right to education, voting, careers, pay, etc.; however, we now face a different type of feminism. One that includes all genders and not just females. In my opinion, one of the biggest battles that women are currently facing in the United States is the right to choose life or to abort their pregnancies. Some will argue that it is their right to choose what they do with their own bodies. They believe that pregnancy and healthcare should be a right and a decision that should be suited for each individual, based on their unique situations. On the flip side, others would argue that life begins at conception and therefore women should not have the right to terminate, even in the case of rape, incest or if it negatively affects the health of the mother. I believe that both sides have strong arguments and there is no right or wrong answer. What we need to do as a society is educate not only our women but also our men on the subject of pregnancy as that is the key. Educating individuals on how to avoid unwanted pregnancies will drastically help reduce the issues we face. The resources are there, we just need to make them more readily available to not only adults but young adults as well. It has been said that schools can do more and I agree. A few weeks of discussion in a high school health class is not enough. Teenagers; as well as adults, need to see a bigger picture of what an unplanned pregnancy can do, including the direct and indirect consequences. Others will argue that this subject is not the responsibility of a school to teach; however, having the subject be discussed as part of a health class insures that individuals will not be left behind and given the critical information they need. We also need to discuss abstinence. Is it realistic? It comes back to education and discussing what individuals can do to make abstinence work and what can be done to fulfill that void. Some will even argue that "courting" instead of dating resolves the issues of temptation but does it? Giving individuals the tools they need to make better decisions for themselves will help them navigate through these questions. There will never be a right or wrong answer, but if we can continue to inform and hope that good choices are made, we can then become better for mankind.
    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
I love math because I enjoy solving problems and I think it's fun. Math is used in our lives every day for various reasons; such as, during your work day, while making a purchase or paying your bills. It's included in learning many different educational subjects such as science, business and accounting. I believe math is the foundation of all learning. If you can solve a math problem, then you can solve other aspects of your life as well, including balancing your finances as an adult. I enjoy helping others understand math, as I'm fortunate enough that it comes easy to me. Unfortunately, many individuals struggle with learning math concepts. I volunteer at school to help others learn how to navigate through the problem at hand. I enjoy watching their face as it becomes clear to them what they need to do. I also help my sister as she also struggles with math. I plan to attend college to become an Atmospheric Sciencetist, in which using math skills will be a daily task. I look forward to learning more complex equations to further my skills for my future career. I also plan to continue to volunteer my guidance to others in need of understanding mathematical concepts.
    Book Lovers Scholarship
If I could have everyone in the world read just one book, it would be "The five people you meet in heaven" by Mitch Albom, an American author. It's a fiction novel that follows the life and death of the main character Eddie who thinks he's lived an unfulfilled life and has asked numerous times "Why me"? Eddie died in an accident on his 83rd birthday while saving a young girl at the amusement park he worked at. Upon his death, he's greeted in heaven one by one by five people who show him the meaning behind his life events and how they touched many other lives. Some of these people he knew, others he directly did not. He was shown specifically that every human life has a purpose. Without you knowing, your actions affect many others without you even realizing it. It also shows the importance of sacrifice, love, and forgiveness and that your legacy lives on in others. In the end, it answered Eddie's question, "Why was I put on Earth to live such a long life"? It's a touching book that I couldn't put down until it was over. It made me reflect on my own life's events and what I can do moving forward to help others as much as possible. You also can't help but to think about the afterlife and if there will be people waiting to greet you. I have recommended this book to many people over the years, as well as given it as a gift.

    Act Locally Scholarship
I want to see our youth make time to to read. So many youth today sit and play games on their phones instead of taking time to read and expand their minds. Books are a wonderful resource of knowledge and can also be used as a great source of entertainment! I love to read everything from fiction to science fiction to "how to" books! I volunteer my time at our local library. I do everything from putting away books in their correct spots, to helping patrons find what they are looking for. I believe everyone should support their local library as much as they can, even if that means just donating a used book, volunteering to read a story to a group of preschoolers or starting a book drive. The more we encourage our youth to read, the more they will and the more educated our society will be.
    Science Appreciation Scholarship
The STEM major I plan on pursuing is meteorology, with a minor in chemistry as I plan to have a career as an Atmospheric Scientist. I enjoy taking any type of math or science class because both fascinate me. Like math, science teaches us how to solve problems and think analytically. With science there is always something new to learn as the possibilities are endless. I believe that Science is important to society because the Earth and the people and animals living on it are ever evolving. Science is a broad subject and can go in many directions. It includes observing, studying different aspects, data collecting, testing and experimenting theories. Without it, the world would not be able to progress. I want to be part of the reason why the world evolves. To be part of a scientific breakthrough would be amazing! To help mankind continue to exist.
    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
I love math because I actually think it's fun! I treat math like a puzzle that I need to solve and when I do it makes me not only happy, but excited. I currently tutor several students and my high school, as well as friends of mine in their math curriculum. I love to see peoples faces light up when they can finally understand the problem we're working on. It's a great feeling to be able to express my love of math to others! I plan to major in Meteorology which will require many math and science courses in college and I look forward to them all. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to tutor fellow students there as well.
    Learner Statistics Scholarship
I plan to pursue a degree in Atmospheric Science, with a minor in Chemistry. I have always been fascinated with the weather and I want to make a difference in the world by making it a safer place. Weather can be very dangerous. I want to research it to become more informed so I can help predict dangerous probable situations. The more knowledge we have as it relates to the weather, the more lives we can save from catastrophic events. No two storms are alike so research is the ongoing key to weather predictions. The more time we can give people to take shelter in cases of dangerous weather, the better. I also plan to minor or double major in Chemistry. I love all Science related courses and Chemistry is one of my favorites! Experimenting, problem solving, projecting and tracking outcomes is not only interesting to me, but enjoyable. I also believe it will compliment my work as an Atmospheric Scientist!
    Bold Simple Pleasures Scholarship
The simple pleasures in my life that make me happy include cheerleading, reading, and my friends. Cheerleading makes me happy because it is a passion I have always wanted to do in my life and it teaches you not only to enjoy what you love, but also teaches us life lessons. What I love most about it is the bonding and friendships we encounter throughout the years. Cheerleading is not only just a team, but also gives us a second family to laugh, smile, cry, and sweat through the blood and tears with. Coaches push us to the best we can possibly be and so does our teammates. Our teammates are just like sisters and brothers, we encourage, we sacrifice for one another, and we also never give up on one another. In similar fashion, reading also makes me happy because it shows me creativity and imagination from reality. It lets me feel emotions throughout the story and leads me into a different world from what I am reading. It also shows me relative understandings of what situations people may have gone through, such as the characters, are going through themselves; either externally or internally. Lastly, what makes me happy is my friends and family. I have a special place in my heart for everyone and especially them because they have been through the thick and thin with me. They also are always there for me when I need them the most. They understand me and give me the confidence to do things when I feel left down. We all may not get along in certain aspects, but that is what brings us closer together. Life is not perfect, if it were, then it would be boring. We have obstacles in our way because that is what makes life exciting.
    Bold Talent Scholarship
My talent is being a flyer and a power tumbler on my high schools varsity cheerleading team. Not only do I cheer at all varsity football and basketball games, but we also compete against other schools locally, at the state level and nationally. This year our team won the nationals competition in Florida out of thousands of other teams. It was an amazing experience! When I'm not cheering at games or competing, I practice typically 5 days a week! Two of those days consist of learning new tumbling skills and as well as weight training. I am a flyer, so I have to have confidence to be the spotlight. I also have to have courage to allow myself to fully trust the other teammates that are holding me. Keeping my nerves under control as much as possible is also not easy. We tumble on dead floor, meaning there is only a very thin mat between me and the ground. You have to be right on point so you don't slip and hurt yourself. Our fans expect us to keep the crowd going and that's what we do! I can't wait to see what next year holds for my team!
    Bold Happiness Scholarship
I have many things that make me happy, such as getting good grades, cheerleading, competing, tumbling, working with children at the gym, reading, writing poems, watching documentaries about the weather, planning for college and my future, helping others learn math, volunteering my time to help others in various situations, traveling and swimming. However, the number one thing that makes me happy is my family. I would not be able to do all the things I do without their support! I truly could not ask for a better family. They come to all my competitions and games and help me be the best I can be. They hold me accountable for my actions and have taught me to treat others how I want to be treated. We cheer each other on during the good times and the bad. I love them with all my heart and they make me happy!

Hello, I'm Carlie Gabler and I will be majoring in Atmospheric Science. My goal is to become an Atmospheric Scientist/Meteorologist. I have always been fascinated by the weather, how it works and how it affects our planet. I also enjoy problem solving, mathematics, gathering and analyzing data; as well as, reading which will be very helpful in this field. I want to be able to predict the weather as accurately as possible in order to be able to warn people of potential dangers. I'm very interested in learning more and investigating global warming and what we can do to not only stop what is currently happening to our planet that is causing global warming, but to try to find the answer to reverse the effects it has had on our planet already. As a current high school Sophomore, I have begun to take classes that my school has to offer that will help prepare me for my college major. These include physics, environmental and Earth science, computer science, chemistry and Calculus.
    Bold Love Yourself Scholarship
I love that I am unique. I do not follow the crowd when it comes to fads. I wear my hair in the style I like. When it comes to clothes I wear what makes me comfortable, not the current trend. I also join activities and clubs that interest me. Not necessarily the ones that are most popular by others. I do these things to make myself happy, not others. Everyone should be encouraged to do what interests them. Don't do what others want just to make them happy or to be popular. With that said, I also like to try new things. You never know what you may or may not like until you try and then you can make an informed decision.

Covid has been hard on all of us, especially students. Having to E-learn from home last year was extremely difficult. I was inspired to go back to in-classroom learning this Fall, not only to see my friends and learn new things, but to finally get back to the sport I love which is Cheerleading! Cheerleading is now an Olympic sport and I'm ready to show my school spirit as a Varsity cheerleader! Our nationally ranked team consistently wins at The Indiana Cheerleading Championship. We practice five days a week, which also includes one day of a tumbling class and a football game. We also compete in many competitions all over the State of Indiana on the weekends. I'm very excited to see what this year brings for me!
Learner Education Women in Mathematics Scholarship
I know many who don't like math, but I love it! Figuring out a problem is a thrill and gives me a sense of achievement. When I was first introduced to Common Core mathematics in middle school, it opened my eyes to an even bigger picture. One that made sense. Math is needed in almost everything we do day to day. I plan to become an Atmospheric Scientist and I will use math consistently in that field to predict the weather, how it forms and to protect others from its wrath. I plan to take as much math in college that is offered to me. I also like to help others that do not understand it. I'm currently a peer mentor for my Geometry class and also to anyone outside of class that might need it. It makes me feel happy when I can help others understand how to solve problems.
    Bold Art Matters Scholarship
My favorite piece of art is actually one I did myself that was of my Mother. It took a long time and I used many different colors and techniques to capture the likeness of her face. It was displayed in our school hallway for a time as it was a favorite amongst the class. I was very proud of that piece. I enjoy drawing very much and plan to continue taking an Art II and IV class in the future,

    Bold Dream Big Scholarship
I'm going to college to become an Atmospheric Scientist. The weather and how it affects the world has always fascinated me! I want to work with a team of Scientists to not only predict the weather, but to be able to precisely predict it in a timeframe that can alarm others that danger might me near. My focus is to be able to save more lives from natural disasters.
    Bold Deep Thinking Scholarship
I feel the biggest problem the world is facing right now is Covid-19. Not only is the virus killing and infecting thousand of people daily, it is now dividing people's beliefs on the best course of action moving forward. Some are willing to vaccinate, while others are against it for many reasons. Many individuals are willing to wear a mask, while others are not. Parents are now protesting against schools. They want their children to learn in-person and to not wear a mask. Many people are still out of work or not willing to work in person due to this pandemic. It's truly been hard on everyone, including children. We can all work together as a Country by doing what is necessary to protect each other. Wear masks if possible, wash hands frequently, and use good hygiene. We must not live in fear, but we need to move forward and be smart.
