Agriculture has always felt less like a career choice and more like a natural extension of who I am. From a young age, I’ve been surrounded by animals and the outdoors, and those experiences have shaped both my interests and my goals for the future. Choosing agriculture allows me to turn the things I love most into meaningful, lifelong work.
One of the biggest reasons I’ve chosen this path is my love for animals. I’ve grown up caring for a variety of them, including my own horses, a herd of beef production cattle, and dogs. Each of these animals has taught me something different. My horses have shown me patience, discipline, and the importance of building trust. Working with cattle has given me hands-on experience in responsibility and the realities of livestock production, from daily care to understanding the role agriculture plays in feeding communities. My dogs, while different from livestock, have reinforced my connection to animals and my desire to care for them properly.
Owning and managing a herd of beef cattle has been especially influential in my decision. It has helped me understand the dedication and hard work that agriculture requires. There are no days off, and the well-being of the animals always comes first. Through this experience, I’ve developed a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility that goes beyond myself. I’ve learned how important agriculture is, not just as a job, but as a vital part of everyday life that supports people and communities.
Another major factor in my choice is my love for the outdoors. I’ve always preferred being outside rather than indoors, whether I’m working with animals, helping with chores, or simply spending time in nature. Agriculture provides the opportunity to work in an environment that I genuinely enjoy. Instead of being stuck behind a desk, I can be active, hands-on, and connected to the land every day. That connection is something I value deeply, and it motivates me to pursue a career where I can continue to experience it.
Agriculture is also a field that constantly challenges me and helps me grow. There is always something new to learn, whether it’s improving animal care, understanding new technologies, or adapting to changing conditions. This variety keeps the work interesting and meaningful. It’s not just about maintaining what I already know, but about continuing to improve and contribute to something bigger.
Overall, I’ve chosen agriculture because it combines everything I care about: animals, hard work, and the outdoors. My experiences with my horses, cattle, and dogs have given me a strong foundation and a clear sense of purpose. Agriculture is more than just a career to me—it’s a lifestyle that reflects my values and passions, and I’m excited to continue building my future in it.
