One of the biggest challenges that has impacted me was getting into a tragic car accident on September 13, 2024. On a Friday night I had just finished my volleyball game, and then was watching my schoolś football game with everyone. I then went to 5th Quarter, a club for Christian Athletes after every football game. My friend had driven us to the church, so we had to go back to the school to get our cars. When we got back to the school, the three of us went to our cars to go home. I was the second to leave, and while I was pulling out of the parking lot, a drunk driver who had his lights off veered into my lane, hitting me head on. I broke more than 10 bones, and was passed out. Some people had seen the accident, and quickly came to help, climbing over the motor that had been thrown out of my car. I was immediately transported to the hospital, where I stayed for 68 days. For those 68 days, I worked hard to recover my bones and brain, and get back to walking and talking again. All the workers at the hospital were so understanding of what I was going through, and they were so kind. So many of my friends and family would always come to visit me in the hospital, showing me unwavering love and kindness. After I got discharged, my mom and I researched different rehabilitation places that would help me get better. We found a place called Apex, so we traveled all the way from Texas to North Carolina to attend. I went for three weeks straight, and it was so life changing. They showed me so many countless different ways to get stronger and recover. They were so kind and loving, it was amazing, helping me to know that I could 100% get better. I went back home when Apex was over, and continued my therapies at home. I finished some more rehab, called Neurorestorative, which helped me physically get stronger, and worked on my memory skills, because the accident had made me completely lose my memory from before. Going to different rehab centers gave me the hope I needed to get better. Afterwards, I was finally given the ability to go back to school. Going back was so amazing for my brain, making me feel normal and have a routine again. I've been working hard in all my classes to catch up and get better academically, focusing on learning the things I would need to further pursue a STEM career. Overall, I've learned a lot from this event. I've learned to not take anything for granted anymore. I could have died that day if God hadn't saved me, and if I didn't have the support from all my loved ones. I´m working so hard to be a better person after my accident, being kinder and more forgiving to others. God saved my life, so I'm living by His word, and preaching His wisdom, trying to spread it to others, trying to make them better, and show them that God is so good. All in all I've learned to value my life and the people in my life, taking nothing for granted.
