Growing up, I had a love-hate relationship with school as many young students do. Even though I dreaded going to school as a teenager, I still wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I was taught a very important lesson in history from my junior year American history teacher; those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. I think this lesson can be applied to many other areas in life and can be taught to the future youth of America in a variety of ways.
I want to create an environment and be the kind of teacher that students look forward to everyday even if they don’t enjoy school. I have had my fair share of dreadful teachers who do not go beyond their job’s expectation of teaching the required curriculum and I want to be different. I want to teach students that learning can be fun in that history is not useless knowledge, but that the lessons we learn from it will be very useful in their every day life.
