My name is Camila Prieto — a student-athlete, honors scholar, and someone who’s overcome being underestimated. I get my wisdom and integrity from my dad, who taught himself by watching TV, and my hustle from my mom, who balanced four jobs while raising our family. I’ve earned championships in three sports, stayed committed in the classroom, and I’m now pursuing a career in radiation therapy or radiology.
I want to make a difference not just in healthcare but in the world — especially by helping kids in underserved places like Africa. I believe in using my drive, discipline, and compassion to bring healing and hope to others. I’m not just focused on success — I’m focused on purpose.

Charles E. Nettles Continued Education Scholarship
I want to continue my education post-graduation because I believe knowledge is the most powerful way to make an impact in the community as well as the world. I am persuing a career in radiation therapy because I want to be on the frontlines of healing- helping fight cancer with care and empathy. I also want to gain further certifications in radiologic sciences to stay ahead in the medical field and eventually work in underserved communities, where access to healthcare is limited. With everything I’ve experienced and witnessed in life—from watching loved ones struggle without proper care to volunteering in hospitals—it’s made me realize how vital it is to not only show up for others, but to be part of real solutions. Education is the tool that will allow me to not only save lives, but inspire others—especially young girls who come from backgrounds like mine—to pursue careers in science and medicine. My goal doesn’t stop at the hospital; I want to use my knowledge and platform to give back, mentor, and eventually help provide healthcare resources to children globally, including in parts of Africa. As a student-athlete, I’ve learned what discipline, resilience, and consistency really mean. I’ve balanced sports, honors classes, and responsibilities at home—and I’ve thrived. My upbringing wasn’t easy, but it shaped me into someone who doesn’t stop. I’m determined to continue my education because I believe I’ve only scratched the surface of my potential. I want to use every bit of what I’ve been through—my family’s sacrifices, my hustle, and my heart—to become a powerful force for good in healthcare. This next step in my education is not just for me—it’s for the generations that come after me, the people I hope to serve, and the lives I’m meant to touch. I believe I’m an ideal candidate for this scholarship because I represent both resilience and potential. I’m not just asking for help—I’m asking for an opportunity to continue building something that will benefit others. My education is not just for me. It’s for my parents, who gave up their dreams so I could pursue mine. It’s for the children I’ll serve in the future. It’s for the communities I want to uplift.
I’m passionate, disciplined, and ready. I want to make a difference. I want to be the kind of healthcare worker who changes lives with both skill and kindness. I want to prove that being underestimated is not the end—it’s the beginning of something great.
