Bio

Throughout my entire life, I have always been interested in how things work. I never settled for a simple answer like, "It just does it" or, "As long as it works." I always looked into it; I asked "How exactly? Why does it do that? Where did it come from?" This mentality has led me to become interested in the world around me. How have we been able to get to where we are today? How can we improve? Why are we here? For centuries, humanity has asked itself these kinds of questions, but we've all come up with our own ideas of answers. I believe that these answers can be found beyond our atmosphere. By learning about other worlds, we might be able to better understand our own. I have hopes that one day I will travel to the vacuum of space and answer my biggest question: how does this universe work?

    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
From being a famous actress to being a model to being a well-known pop star, little girls’ dreams worldwide have always gone above and beyond what we as a society have considered possible. Still, many women have been able to prove it possible. Sabrina Carpenter is an incredibly talented celebrity who has been able to accomplish most of our childhood dreams, all while looking gorgeous. She has been an actress, songwriter, singer, dancer, model, and so much more! Sabrina Carpenter is an inspiration to hundreds of women around the world. As I stated before, little girls have always had unique visions for their future; nonetheless, we start to lose hope in those dreams and lower our standards the older we get. We begin to believe that those dreams are impossible, and we settle for something that is easier to reach. Sabrina, however, was able to meet the world one step at a time. She started off as an actress for Disney Channel, and later, she worked her way up, releasing albums and getting different jobs. Seeing a young woman be able to accomplish dreams that I once had gives me hope: I will also see success and achieve my own dreams.
    Learner SAT Tutoring Scholarship
The SAT is an incredibly important test for high schoolers across the country. The results for this test may determine what colleges we go to and what scholarships we may earn. Personally, I believe this is one of the most important tests I will be taking before leaving high school. I strive to get into a great university and get a job in my dream field. I am aware that the SAT scores don’t determine everything, but every factor counts when it comes to following your dreams; I will do the best I can to secure my future. I will make sure I get a good score by reviewing old topics I may have forgotten and practicing all sorts of problems that can be on the test. First off, When it comes to studying for a test, everyone has different methods, but reviewing is a very helpful way to prepare for a test. To do this, I have been looking through old textbooks, notebooks, and websites to relearn anything I might have forgotten over the past years. It is also very helpful to research topics that have a great probability of being on the SAT and taking note of anything you may not be familiar with; this way, you aren’t aimlessly studying random topics and you know what you need to look for. Reviewing these topics can be a great refresher, especially when it comes to memorizing math formulas. Additionally, practicing questions that you think you will see is a very helpful way of getting ready. There are many websites and schools that offer practice questions for high school students. By practicing these questions, you can refresh your memory on topics you may have forgotten, and you can figure out which topics you need extra help on. If there is a topic I don’t understand, I will research tutorials online, or I can ask teachers around my school for some help. Practicing may be my favorite way of studying for the SAT. My goal for the SAT is to get an overall score somewhere between 1200 and 1600. This way, I can start applying to more scholarships and see my chances of getting into my favorite universities! Overall, I will prepare for this test by reviewing topics that I’ll run into and practicing questions I may struggle with over and over. I can’t wait to see what this hard work will lead me to do!

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that (1957)." On November 17, 1957, Dr. Martin Luther King Junior delivered his famous sermon, Loving your enemies, at a church in Montgomery, Alabama. His words inspired many people across the United States of America to fight back segregation and discrimination with peace, not violence. Instead of fighting and yelling at those who disagreed, Dr. King organized peaceful protests. His actions not only inspired those within the black community, but others who were witnessing the discrimination that was happening. His words influenced peoples’ views and actions; even in the present, people follow his ideals through peaceful protests. I, Camila Espinoza, am one of the many people who were inspired by this phrase, but it inspired me in a different way; it inspired me to show more kindness to the people of this world. No matter what people have done or what they have said, they are human just like I am; therefore they deserve kindness. If every problem was dealt with by adding on to the problem, the world would become a big problem. If everyone were to fight fire with fire, the world would eventually burn. Showing kindness is the best way to drive out hate as it can change a person’s attitude or mindset; however, thinking a certain way and acting that way are two contrasting deeds. If I were to simply admire Dr. Martin Luther King’s words, I could never leave an impact on others, let alone myself. Only by showing my beliefs through actions can I leave a mark. If one truly believes their thoughts, one should act upon them. For instance, I was able to show kindness to a teacher who wasn’t known to be likable. This teacher was known for her bad teaching skills, her rudeness to students, and extremely strict rules. Every student who has had her as a teacher had something negative to say about her. One month, however, she was absent for three weeks straight. No one knew where she had gone, but everyone was celebrating her absence. In the fourth week, she finally returned, and we learned that she lost her mother due to a heart condition. Many ignored her pain, others even giggled at her suffering, but none of that would have made her better. Although I personally didn’t appreciate her much, I felt empathy, for I had lost my grandpa two months prior. I created an email apologizing for her loss, and reassuring her everything would get better. Although she never acknowledged the email, I was able to notice the change in her behavior. She wasn’t completely over the loss of her mother, but her personality was back to usual. Being kind isn’t simply thinking nicely, but acting kindly. By merely thinking about a nice deed, nothing will happen; you need to take action. Kindness can drive out hate and create a positive impact on people; hate cannot drive out hate.

I don’t want to die, especially not like this. This barbarous war began around ten years ago; it was all because some old men didn’t know how to share some land. Millions of people have been paying the price in what they call ‘World War III.’ Countless lives have been lost. Young people have given their lives fighting in place of these old men. Children have grown up only knowing of the war, but this somehow isn’t enough. Just last year, new soldiers were created to replace the young lives that weren’t considered strong enough. These soldiers are strong, smart, and innovative: these soldiers are robots known as the warriors of liberty. Although this war is all I've ever known, I’ve been able to experience true humanity, both kind and cruel. I have seen families go above and beyond for their loved ones; I've seen soldiers of opposing sides show mercy to each other; I've seen how people justify even their worst acts to seem like good people. Even though these factors have brought humanity to where we are today, at least they were human. On the other hand, the warriors of liberty are just piles of metal following the same algorithm: exterminate every enemy. Now, in the midst of a war, I run down what used to be the main road of my city. At one point, this road was full of life: there were tall buildings where people worked; many schools for kids from preschool to college, restaurants and cafes where people could meet up with their family, and parks everyone enjoyed. Now, life has been completely sucked out of this street; most of the buildings have collapsed and the city is covered in weeds. If I didn’t know better, I wouldn’t have guessed people have happily walked the same path I now follow full of fear. It's been days since I’ve had a place to rest. I can’t remember the last time I went a whole day without running from warriors or looking for survivors. I want to lay down, take a nap, tend my wounds, but I can’t: I need to keep moving. I won’t stop until I reach the refugee camp. There, I can finally rest. I could just imagine the bread they might give me and the soft bed I’d be able to sleep in. Just this thought is enough to push me forward. Suddenly, I can hear a low buzzing nearby. I run under a building to not get caught, but it's pointless; the drone already detected my body heat. These drones detect the body heat of living organisms and send information to nearby warriors, acting as their eyes and ears. I do not know where the warrior might be, but I know I must hide quickly. I run up the stairs of this building until I reach the rooftop. Maybe this way I’ll have a better view. After walking up three stories, I try to catch my breath while staying aware of my surroundings. The drone has lowered itself to 30 feet above my position; there's no doubt they found me now. I grab a metal bar from the rubble next to me in hopes I will be able to defend myself. All of a sudden, I hear loud, heavy stomps on the rooftop of a building right next to the one I am. There it is, the warrior of liberty. As fast as I could, I ran behind a wall where it couldn't see me. Maybe this way I can make more time to create a plan; however, another surprise awaited me behind that wall. The last thing I could remember was seeing the face of a warrior. It had no eyes, no mouth, no expression; all it had was a big screen for a face. Unfortunately, his screen created a reflection of my face. I was forced to see my face full of fear as it lifted a firearm and shot through my heart. It showed no mercy, no hate, and no pride. This was inhuman, but what could I do to stop it? I didn’t want to die, especially not like this.
    Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
Ever since 2009, Minecraft has been a game that brings joy to people of all backgrounds. Whether we play in creative or survival mode, Minecraft allows us to discover new possibilities and put our problem-solving skills to the test. Although one can do anything and everything in Minecraft, every player shares a common goal: to improve our world. To begin, even when one is in creative mode, we don't just spend all day walking around and looking at the animals. We change the world to fit our vision. Some people may blow everything up or cover it with animals. Others might build amazing cities or theme parks. Every world is different, but they all share the goal of improving the land. In addition, players in survival mode strive to make their world more advanced. They create farms with mobs or plants to gain food or XP. Also, players gain power and resources to defeat stronger mobs that will reward them with tools that can help their world improve. Furthermore, many people build large bases and change nearby villages to shape the world however they want. Being in survival mode can't change a player's goal. Overall, Minecraft is an outstanding game in which layers can discover new possibilities and test out their problem-solving skills. Every player shares the goal of improving their world, and I believe it is the best aspect of the game. Changing the world in any way we like gives us a sense of freedom, for we are allowed to let out all of our creativity. Looking forward to improving our world is very special; always wanting to move forward is an amazing mindset to have.
